Description
patty kane makes too much, is old, and would cost a lot to get, so the rangers should opt for the younger but slightly-less skilled version in sonny milano. as an elite passer, milano could work very well next to two shooters in (playoff) chytil and kravtsov and maybe cook on PP2. stastny is another cheap route at 2C but he is still quite a good two-way center who could slide down the lineup in favor of chytil, i think he is the perfect fit for what this team needs while still making financial sense. sam steel is also here just to stay with milano and convince zegras to come home to them on the rangers, but he’s actually pretty good defensively and would maybe have a chance to revitalize his career. giving up quite a bit to dump nemeth but reimer is a fantastic backup option and megna is rock solid for basically the minimum, would give up more in the trade tbh and san jose fans are usually pleasant. overall think this team is really good and i hope it pans out like this somewhat so we can have depth and be able to pay our young talent going forward

Sunny Milano is only slightly less skilled than Patty Kane? What are you on?

For Hill, it we'd likely look for a 3rd in return who'd be cheaper to pick up for the Rangers. That said, Reimer has been in significantly better form and would be a better fit for a playoff caliber team. Post-Melnyk Ottawa may be a better environment for Optimus Reim, but the Rangers wouldn't be too bad either for a landing spot.

The trade you proposed is a good start. I'd tweak it to be the Sharks a depth pick in lieu of Megna since he's been pivotal to helping Merkley develop and he would outplay Nemeth if such a trade was to happen. So, if I was SJ GM, I'd do: Reimer + 5th for Nemeth, Korczak, 2023 2nd, 2024 4th

That top 9 is all skill and will get pushed around, certainly isn't going to do well in the playoffs. Drury has been preaching to make this team more balanced, I am expecting him to create a 3rd line that has speed, can be used as a shutdown line, while turning the 4th line into an energy line that can skate. I don't see these moves happening with Drury here.

Kreider and Laffy are small skilled guys who typically get pushed around 👍🏼

So 2 players who play a physical game both on the first line, great so the first line won't get pushed around. The 2nd and 3rd line are toilet paper soft, which is one of the reasons why Drury got Trocheck.

Sure. As long as you understand 9/9 of those guys aren’t soft. You do realize Strome and Copp weren’t exactly big boys on the ice right? Vatrano too. NYR didn’t exactly lose toughness. Reaves, Blais, Goodrow and the D line up make up for soft skilled forwards

9/9 aren't soft... have you ever watched Panarin? He's a great player, but he will avoid a hit at all costs, even if it means turning over the puck. Copp is far from a physical player, especially with his concussion history. Strome throws the body around, usually taking dumb and unnecessary penalties. Mika uses his frame, but isn't exactly throwing around the body. Vatrano for someone who isn't huge, threw around the body and wasn't afraid to mix it up. Stastny and Kravstov offer nothing in the way of physicality. I really enjoyed the last line, "make up for soft skilled forwards" admitting the top 9 you have isn't going to necessarily be up for a war of attrition come the playoffs.

I think you are completely misunderstanding. No one is saying Panarin isn’t soft. But you said the top 9 were. I pointed out 2/9 that aren’t soft and it’s obvious they aren’t. I’m not making arguments about the other 7, maybe all 7 are, maybe 3 are…irrelevant. I’m saying it’s not all 9 as you initially suggested 🤦🏻‍♂️

Also, you don’t need an entire team of Tom Wilson’s to win 😂. Every team that has won had soft skill as well as tough. War of attrition 😂 most of those top 9 have seen a conference finals.

Yes many of these players have seen an Eastern Conference Finals, but also the team couldn't do anything after game 2. Strome, Copp, and Vatrano are gone, so 1/3 of the top 9 in the Eastern Conference Finals won't be back. I am glad Trocheck is here to add a physical presence, I completely agree you don't need a team of Tom Wilsons, but you do need some physical players and guys who will stir things up. Look at the difference Kadri made for the Avs. Yes I concede Kreider and Laf are not soft, but I fully expect them to be on the top line and the middle 6 you had listed isn't built for the playoffs. Trocheck on the 2nd line makes a difference, Goodrow or Blais will hopefully be on the 3rd line. Carpenter, Hunt, Rydhal, and Reaves certainly can provide the physical edge on the bottom line plus guys like Cuylle or Trivingo are not going to shy away from physical play if they end up on the pro team.
