Dave Poulin Idea Get Poehling Suzuki and Lee
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Surely they'd be better off on the 1st line on Laval than the 4th line?</div></div>
As of right now, I agree with you. Getting that 1 year on Laval to learn pro-hockey and play together would be hugely beneficial. Unless they absolutely rock training camp and prove that they MUST be in the NHL come next year, being in Laval under Bouchard would likely be smartest move. If Habs can find a way to sign Duchene then that would be even stronger incentive to keep them down and train them more.

We Sign Duchene and go from there
I agree, I think this is the right plan of action. We're definitely deep on C now but who can complain adding a top talent. Not sure how we would balance it out but Duchene/KK/Phoeling/Danault down the stretch is incredibly promising. (although, Danault would likely get trade at that point).
Start with Duchene, move Domi to the wing and then focus on a top-4 LD. That already puts us at a MUCH more balanced place to compete.
Additionally, getting another RW could help too.

Interesting Moves
I don't think the Ducks are tying to move Perry to be in a similar situation. So that's doubtful.
Habs also say no because too much salary to take on (even though it's 2 years) for a totally useless player. He's no better than anybody we have plus if we need an overpaid LD then we have Alzner on reserve for that. Don't think Puljujarvi is enough of an immediate impact to justify that.

Different Route in FA
I don't understand the point of offer sheeting William Karlsson. We don't need a C and if we opt to get one, might as well try to attract Duchene since he's a better and more stable C. Yes it would cost more money but we wouldn't have to give up a pick.
You've also done nothing to improve the defense. Which was a major need...

I think this is a fair deal. Likely bot have the same career curve. HABS just need LHD more so than righties. We also have Fleury and Brook to take the RD spot so wouldn't be a bad swap

The players are great, the lineups are horrible. There's a few issues...
1. In a perfect world, Domi goes back on the wing
2. Why in the world are you trading Danault for such a low price? You still have Hudon, Danault to get rid of
3. Weise could barely crack the 4th line last season, what makes you think he's a 2nd line player?
4. Petry on the 3rd line is a waste. If we sign EK, he either plays LD or we need to trade Petry
5. Alzner LOL

JT Miller is interesting but with his price tag, likely can find similar for less. Callahan would 100% be a cap dump for Tampa and i'm not helping them without a premium in return here. Not worth it at all imo unless they take back Alzner too.
Zero interest in Scandella. He's no better than what we can ice

Domi Contract and Elite team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KoneDome</b></div><div>That is a lot of money for Duchene..... 12 points in 23 games with CBJ. I know someone will probably give him that, but would not be my team. That's Stone, Kucherov, Seguin range.... Duchene isn't near the player of any of them.</div></div>
Can't judge a player based on his stats with a brand new team after being acquired at the deadline. Stone got less money cause there's no state tax in Arizona. Kucherov took one for the team and took a MASSIVE paycut (should be in the 11m-12m range). I also still think Seguin is a steal but not by much.
I agree that 9.5 is a lot of money and if it wasn't for UFA I think Duchene would probably earn in the 8m range but sometimes you gotta pay. If it's a 6 year or less deal, I have no problem shedding out that money from the Habs. He's going to add 25G and 60 points, in which we need.

Thoughts on trade with EDM
The deal adds pieces that both teams want/need but for some reason, I just feel like it's a weird deal. Maybe if Bobby Ryan went to EDM too (obviously deal structure needs to change a bit) it could be even better. But i don't know what i'm talking about. I just feel bad for McDavid and would like them to get more wingers to play with him

How Much for Panarin
IF Tampa somehow finds a way to add Panarin, I may **** my pants. Probably going to be one of the best teams every assembled and should win the cup lol.
That being said, I find it VERY unlikely. If the rumors are true and Florida is all in on him and Bob AND are willing to include Huberdeau in the deal, I don't think many teams could top that.

Perry could help mtl this year and next year and mtl do not have cap issues in the next two years. And adding Miller could provide instant goaly if Price get injured.</div></div>
A lot of players could help but that doesn't mean we should trade for them. Billy very nicely laid out the issues with Perry and just cause it may help immediately, doesn't mean it won't hurt us later on. I think there's other players we could target that we can keep for longer and that wouldn't screw us with money.. We have the cap space to help teams so let's make it worth out while.
PS: I hope your lines are not what you actually think the Habs should play. The D pairings is horrendous and you can;t split up the Drouin - Dnaualt - Gally line just yet

Potential Deal w Ducks
I have no interest in taking on the Kesler contract UNLESS it get's us Fowler or Lindholm at a complete bargain (and by that I mean not losing a 1st or any of our top 5 prospects - which wouldn't happen). It doesn't make sense for ANA to retain on him and it doesn't make sense for us to eat 3 years of $7M. Even if we buy him out, we're on the hook for 2/3 of his salary for the next 6 years ($4.6M). We wouldn't even be able to flip him cause of his crazy NMC. At the same time, we still have the Alzner contract to eat (unless we find a buyer) and then Fowler has is at $6.5x7. I know we have cap room to play with but that's A LOT of salary coming in.
Benn for a 2nd is an over payment so I'd easily take that but anything higher than a 4th we should keep him. He plays very well as a 3rd pairing D (where he should be) and will be important in the playoffs. If we do get a top 4D at the deadline, him and Reilly will be good compliments for each other.

Trade with ANA at deadline 2019
The ANA deal, value wise is there. I don't know how willing Habs would be to give up on Gallagher though.
I don't think the DAL trade makes sense. Lehkonen is the better player there AND the Habs give up a 2nd? That doesn't make sense. I rather go for Burakovsky than him.

trade with MTL Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>Suzuki worth more than a first... Why should we add a second if they want Suzuki?</div></div>
In my mind, the CHOICE that comes with a 1st overall pick is what makes it more valuable than a prospect (Obviously, there's exceptions here, like a top 5 prospect is worth more than a late 1st). But, when we're dealing with a pick likely between 15-25 vs Suzuki in a trade that gets back a top winger that is under 22 years old, I would rather keep the pick and have Timmins work his magic. It's situational, sure, but in my eyes, that is what I was thinking. Suzuki is an amazing prospect, he's killing it in the OHL and i'm incredibly happy we have him in the system BUT there is always the chance that he doesn't pan out. Nylander is a certain NHL player with a minimum 20G 30A floor. I'd take that all day!
In reality, either would be okay with my cause Nylander is an amazing player. His current production doesn't worry me in the slightest.

Cap room equals picks EDM MON
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>It has happened before but just not in the form of a non drafted pick. Florida traded Lawson Crouse to get rid of Bollands contract. Crouse was a top 11 pick just the year previous. Year sure, Arizona gave them a 2nd and a 3rd in return but in a vacuum, that shouldn't get you a lottery picked player back in return. Carolina did the same with the Bickell contract. Canes got Teravainen
(who went 18th overall a couple years prior) with Bickell for only a 2nd and a 3rd back.
I think we can say the Crouse trade isn't working out for Arizona but the Canes trade was a home run!
Regardless it was all to say that if a team like TB had to pay someone a 1st to get rid of Callahan so that they could ensure resigning guys like Point. I don't think that would be the end of the world. It would be a late pick anyway and whats more important. A late 1st or Brayden Point?
I think there just hasn't been the right circumstance for a team to trade a 1st with a cap dump yet but it may be coming eventually. A contract like that of Lucic's may be the first. If Oilers were entrenched in a playoff spot anywhere between 20th-30th, I could fathom them doing a Lucic+1st for a 2nd+3rd or something like that. If there was a player available I was that certain of like Brock Boeser at 23, I would be tempted to do it.</div></div>
Fair play my dude! Good answer. I'll agree that there are some circumstances where it's necessary (Like your Tampa example) but in general, It's a very unlikely scenario. Maybe this is something Oilers need to do to rid themselves of the Lucic contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>I think the value is very close. This trade is also dependent on the Wild acquiring Nurse (or another LHD).
How is Juulsen's development coming along?</div></div>
Juulsen has been injured for the past month, but before that, he's shown a lot of growth. We sent him down to Laval (like Mete, to help give him confidence but also cause of our roster size situation at the time - since he didn't need to clear waivers). I think he's proven to be NHL ready and 10-12 games in the AHL would do him good just to get back into the action after the injury. He's a tough kid and plays a very smart two-way game. Not afraid to get dirty and is good at passing/cutting lanes. He's not a big producer on the offence side of things but in a year or two, he can be a very reliable 2nd pairing RD. His only caveat is his skating. It's not bad but it's not good enough to make him join in on a rush.
I much rather keep him on the team but considering Brook/Fleury are also knocking on the doorstep and our need for a stable 2nd pairing LD, I would be okay letting him go for this return.

It's not about overrating. We know he's not a projected 1C... He's turning into a high end 3C, low end 2C that plays a huge 200-foot game.. so essentially, a more up-side version of Danault. This is a very valuable asset. Other than KK, he's our most ready C prospect, and Suzuki will end up playing RW in the NHL while Domi should probably move back to the wing.
Don't get me wrong, I love Gostisbehere, and would gladly welcome a way to put him into a Habs shirt and although your trade proposal makes sense based on value, I don't think the Habs are ready or should give up that amount futures for him. We could find someone at a slightly lower tier than him for cheaper.
But again, your value was pretty well done. I'm sure other teams can offer a similar package to get this done.
