7 x 25% retained = 7 - 1.75 = 5.25
5.25 x 50% retained = 5.25 - 2.625 = 2.625 mil left on his deal
However I doubt you need to pay Tatar more than 3 mil so should still all work.</div></div>
Ah yeah, now you see why I’m not in college for mathematics lol. I definitely did that wrong. In hindsight, I was going for both teams retaining 50% each though that’d be hard to convince Chicago to do so yeah fair point.
And I’d hope so with Tatar. I’d be surprised if he got a big piney deal after being healthy scratched in the playoffs so much.
Thanks for the input !

We don't want to ship him off as an under 30 player with multiple 30 goal seasons. He's a stud and you can jump in front of everyone else and pay a reasonable return, or wait till next year when his price goes up dramatically after everyone sees he's regained his scoring touch</div></div>

If you’re not willing to pay for a goaltender than no matter if Lavoie is the second coming of Jesus or not, you are not winning anything with McDavid

Lavoie is generally seen as a one dimensional prospect. While goal scoring is very necessary and very valuable, players like Lavoie are no guarantees. Daniel Sprong rings a bell. In Kuemper's 10 year career, he has only been below a .905% three times, twice in Minnesota I believe. He has been above average for the past 4 of 5 seasons, particularly the past 3 in Arizona. That is more than the Oilers goalies could ever say this decade, excluding Talbot maybe.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Copenhagen</b></div><div>Sure, Oilers dont need more right wings in the system, all we got is right wings and D. A late 1st and a late 2nd. No way I do that package as an Oilers gm
3rd round pick for Glendening, try a 6th or 7th round pick. Otherwise forget it. 4th line players have crap value, he is good at faceoffs and that is it.
Gusev is really a 3rd line player so a one for one deal is what it should be.</div></div>
The one for one with Gusev I can get behind, however I can tell you have no watched or read anything about Glendening beyond his faceoff percentage. It is about his ability to provide effective two-way hockey, prompt more successful zon exits and be a reliable penalty killer. You easily pay a 3rd for that. Otherwise, have fun with Turris, Haas, or Khaira. Also, Legare is not for the Oilers, he is for the Ducks in this scenario. Ideally it saves the Oilers from parting with a prospect of their own for Rakell. The picks are then flipped in deals for Rakell and Kuemper, two pieces that would greatly benefit the Oilers. While Nuge is a fan favorite in Edmonton, his lack of 5-on-5 scoring against any team not named the Senators and the Oilers lack of identity revolving where to play him and Draisaitl, Rakell solidifies himself as a winger to play with either McDavid or Leon and is on a cheap, two-year deal which is more affordable then whatever you give Nuge. Does that make sense now? We can quibble over draft picks all day but the players and part are not far off.

Yeah it’s just that contract is tough for contenders to eat. I’d upgrade to a 2nd but I’d prefer if some cap was retained. Any thoughts? Appreciate the comment !

Value wise it is a downgrade but value shouldn’t be a key focus when you’re trying to compete. Zadorov fits the team needs better than Pettersson. Obviously Zadorov is a big risk and could be a flunk but it’s a shot I’d take. Maybe a similar style defenseman but better would be nicer obviously but those don’t come easy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackBurton</b></div><div>If there is one thing that Bowman absolutely, unequivocally excels at... It is doubling down on a stupid move. David Rundblad anyone? Saad pissed away for Zads after taking the wash on Panarin? And acting like it was both necessary and a good idea at the time? Bowman's idea generator is his own worst enemy...
Agents chat a lot of **** because that's the job. For most of the season, Zads has been really bad. But he's been having his best games in the sweater lately, so the question is was he just taking some time to get up to Jeremy's system, or is he going to revert back to slow, out of position, and kinda dumb. If he continues to improve, and takes the longer "Connor Murphy" road to stability, I'm fine with giving him a long term contract for a decent raise. But if he wants more than 5.5/year, he can pound sand.</div></div>
Yeah and it’s always risky to keep these players and even trade for them in this case. Obviously it doesn’t sound great for me giving up Pete and a pick for someone who may be a wash but it’s all a crapshoot which is why this website can be crazy at times. If anything I’d love to ship Matheson over instead of Pettersson and pray that Bowman falls I love with him

Addressing needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackBurton</b></div><div>"We're all just garbage" is my favorite ending to an armchair GM post ever.
I think your issue with the LA trade is the man, not the team. The kings front office would be all about it, despite the extra PR legwork involved. The problem is Brownie, he wants to stay in that sweater until he dies. And he'd use his clauses to do so. Is there a chance he might be motivated to go to PIT for one last hurrah? Yeah, but PIT would have to trade every drop of futures away to make a monster competitor that would move the needle for Brownie. Just don't see it.
The problem with the Chicago trade is Bowman himself, not the returning value you've given here. He seems quite proud of himself for that **** awful trade, and even if he wasn't, the optics on tossing away Saad for him will ensure that Zads stays in town.</div></div>
Unfortunately for me, you’re right in everything you said lol. I had the idea of trading for Brown at the start of the year before he popped off so that doesn’t help his value for other teams haha. I can imagine he wants to and may deserve to retire In LA but I hope we could drink the juice and fall in love with the idea of another cup run, whether it’s realistic with this team or not.
In regards to Bowman, it’s funny because I was reading today about Zadorov to do some research before this and it’s been pointed out that historically Bowman doesn’t move guys he trades for so quick because he loves them no matter why. However with Zadorov being a pending free agent and rumors of his agent maybe wanting a significant raise, I’d hope he’d consider it. Thanks for the comment and discussion!

Zadorov is worth a 2nd and Soderberg has been playing good but is only worth a 3rd maybe 4th</div></div>
If it was last year, Pettersson would feel like he’d be valued at a late first or early second but this year he’s been rough. Just lacks physicality and wasn’t healthy to start the year. I love how he can be smart in jumping up on offense and I think he’s a sound defenseman on most teams but he isn’t what the Pens need anymore. He was when they acquired him. I’ll admit though, people have been quick to turn on him and write him off. He was great with Marino last year and this year, Marino has been disappointing so when you pick which one may be the problem or who you should move, it has to be Pettersson.

Discussion - Valuing Jets Prospects for Defensive Help

Everyone else is fair game for me, though I would rather keep vesalainen and gustaffsson but I can also stomach losing them for the right pieces</div></div>
So based on Dumba being a ideal second pairing RD and having 3 years remaining, what would your offer be?

DISCUSSION Talking trade values
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>You didn't know that because it's not fricken true. So sick of dispelling this rumor.
Jeff Carter has consistently denied that he ever said anything of the sort. Quit spewing this nonsense. Link with actual, you know, quotes below.

Here's an excerpt if you don't have The Athletic: “I’m 20 games from 1,000, so I don’t think I’m retiring,” [Carter] said at the team’s getaway day Monday. “I got three years left on my contract. I want to be an L.A. King. I want to help change things around here, but I don’t have no-trade protection so whatever happens, happens. And I never talked about retiring either. Never came out of my mouth.”
Before I respond to this, I want to make sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying Montreal would -maybe- accept trading Caufield if Byfield was coming the other way?</div></div>
