<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>I mean, the season is a failure in the standings for sure. They SHOULD have been competitive and they weren't. But on the other hand, Dorion is gone, Smith is gone, Martin is doing a good job getting this team to unlearn DJ Smith hockey.

Putting aside Dorion punting a 1st, which there's no way to spin as a positive, I think they'll be better in the end for having the season bottom out and for them to clean house, than for Ottawa to have been "in it" and finish 5 points out of the wildcard. The team was spared another 6 months of Dorion being in control of making any decisions, which is objectively good for the team, and having Jacques laying the foundation for what kind of hockey this team needs to play is only gonna benefit the Sens, because now the next head coach isn't starting from zero next season trying to break all the bad habits learned under the previous coach.

That said, I'm honestly not expecting Ottawa be drafting top 5. My money is on the 8-12 range. So from that perspective, having another season punted by December, and not ending up with a top pick is gonna blow. Good year to have multiple 1st though, and Ottawa could easily have 3 if they move Tarasenko.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TkachukNorris79</b></div><div>The playoff experience would have been nice, but let's be real they would have gotten smacked by whoever they played. Need to go through that to learn how to win, but with the Top 15 picks we moved in 22 and 23 along with the waste of 10th overall in 2021, we really need another top-end prospect who will be able to contribute for cheap when this team is really ready to contend in 2-3 years (hopefully lol)</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pinto</b></div><div>Echoing other comments here but the season would be a failure given the expectations, but it'd be hard to call the year anything but a success if they (1) managed to remove the DJ Smith stink that had begun to fester and poison the team, (2) build new habits and systems that suggest better potential for the future, and (3) walk away with a high draft pick in a strong draft to build what is a depleted prospect pool after Dorion squandered several valuable assets.

The Sens under Dorion tried to rush the rebuild by trading high picks for win-now players that didn't fit the team's needs, but the Sens under Staios took too long to respond and left DJ in for too long. The approach they're taking now is the right level of patience, so while the season is a failure because they should have been in the mix at the very least, it's encouraging to know they're back on track.

If this same conversation is being held at this time next year, the rebuild has no choice but to be considered a complete failure.</div></div>

Well said guys.

Best summed up as "growing pains"

They'll be better moving forward because of this season. I still really wanted to waive the towels and enjoy Sens Mile though. Soon.

A lot of "wishful thinking" here. Lots moving but no value being given.

Whilst still young, Thomson was put on waivers, claimed by ANA and subsequently put back on waivers and claimed by OTT again in the span of 48 hours. Not a great look. It also doesn't help that he is still completely lost in the D-zone in Belleville. Offensively he's fine, great shot from the point and good first pass but everything else leaves much to be desired.

Boucher just played his first couple of games after a "groin tweak". He looks okay but still hasn't shown he can be an NHL player. I like his physicality and can understand where the interest comes from on Philly's end, I just can't see them asking for him just because of nepotism.

Jarventie has all the attributes of a solid NHL player in the making. Big, fast and can shoot. Plays all three positions. Downside is he hasn't yet discovered how big he is and has yet to develop "man strength". Didn't do a whole lot when he was called up near the beginning of the year. A work in progress that draws little interest when being traded for a legit top 6 winger.

Kubalik, Brannstrom and MacEwan are all roster throw ins that do little to move the needle to replace what the flyers are losing short and long term. The two first round picks are likely in the mid to high 20's considering Detroit's 1st will be replaced by Boston's first and NYR's first is going to be close to it. Nice to have but you aren't getting anything that'll help your franchise immediately.

You also have to take into consideration that Philly, whilst technically moving towards a rebuild, is in a playoff spot. They really don't need to trade Konecny thus bringing his value even higher.

Personally, I would love Konecny to come back to Ottawa where he played his junior years. One of my favorites growing up. But, the value is non-existent here for the flyers to consider.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>What 2 way C? -21 and 3rd worst +/- on his team last year isn't a 2 way C.</div></div>
EV defense 68% percentile in his rookie season, after missing a full year due to injury and being thrown in a tough role with purely offensive forwards. +/- is useless, you have to look at expected goals

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>How is he going to get worse? He's on the final year of his contract and would be a deadline addition. He literally doesn't have a chance to age poorly, thats why it's a contradiction.

I never said anything about it having to be Ottawa that trades for him. But Tanev has been without question the best defensive defenseman in the league over the past 3 years. Hence why I said he will cost a minimum of 2 2nds.

Ottawa moved a top 10 pick for DeBrincat and #12 for Chychrun, stop grouping those picks in with picks from the 22+ range</div></div>
He wasn't talking about Tanev's contract but more his body...

There is absolutely no chance they would consider moving Pinto for Tanev considering they wouldn't want to move for Chychrun just a few months ago

I'd love to find a way to add Tanev but I don't see how. Ottawa has not made the playoffs yet, it would be counter-productive to trade a young player for an older player, with low term too

Kubalik + Brannstron + 2nd (Flames would keep Brannstrom and sell Kubalik themselves). I love Brannstrom and he's seriously underrated but the need is on RHD. I really want someone to play with Chabot too

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Tanev
Chychrun - Hamonic
