Rockford Icehogs next season

Justin Barron will get a contract and have a roster spot in the NHL next season IF he is not traded this offseason. There's no 'risking losing him on waivers', he will play if not dealt. That simple. I think MTL would like to move a defenseman this offseason, either Barron, Harris or Struble. Maybe they all come back and they keep doing the rotation on the backend until injuries, but stop saying he doesn't hold a lot of value because he lose waiver exemption next year lol</div></div>
Uh huh... Sure, bud. Take care.

Top U22 Prospects Update and Mock Draft Scenarios
I would not put Levshunov or Eiserman high in the top 5. Maybe not even top 10 when all is said and done, because I see some guys who could rise up my rankings pretty easily. I am currently in favor of drafting all forwards in the 1st round. Especially since some VERY good forwards should be slipping with all the hype around defensemen this year, it's the perfect time to take advantage of that. There will be RD in the 2nd and 3rd round, and next year, and the year after, and in free agency, and through trade if need be.
I have watched a lot of both Levshunov and Eiserman, and they aren't all that. I recommend you watch more of them too. USAHockeyTV has some USNTDP games from throughout the season streaming for free on their site along with a bunch of USHL games and what have you. As far as watching Levshunov, you'll need a Big10+ subscription. But I really don't see it with either player. Eiserman is kind of a floater that gets opportunities handed to him and has a great shot. But he is very one dimensional. Levshunov is not exciting at all and he sucks in his own end. He is benefitting heavily from the way he is being utilized and getting puck touches. That isn't to say neither of them are good, but they should not be this high in the top 5, imo.
I would go:
1. Celebrini
2. Demidov/Lindstrom
3. Lindstrom/Demidov
4. Catton
5. Iginla/Basha/Boisvert/Misa/Nygard/Eiserman/Levshunov/etc.
Also, Parekh and Helenius are way over rated, too. As in, I probably wouldn't even have them in my top 20 right now.

I agree on your view of drafting 1 forward & & 1 RD in the first round. I changed my mind a few times so far on who I think they should take first (assuming not getting the first overall). After Garak’s review of Levshunov I’m leaning towards forward. However I don’t think Yakemchuk is still around when Hawks use the Bolts pick. Jiricek might fall because of injury & possibly due to stigma about his brother’s situation. Most likely it’s 1 of Mews, Elick or Emery. I’m holding out hope that 1 of them is still around for the Hawks to nab with their first pick in the 2nd round. We shall see.

You are correct; currently with the Hawks are Vlasic, Korchinski and Philips, in Rockford are Del Mastro, Allan, Roos and Kaiser so finding a place for Broberg would be difficult. If they were to go for a LHD I think they would probably choose a more established veteran like Hanifin in FA.

no seth Jones and korchinski lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealKyleDavidson</b></div><div>This is a common thing and a massive problem for Luke Richardson. Forcing players to be something that they aren't. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. They're telling Colton Dach to be more physical and be a power forward, which is working and he's playing well. However, they're telling Reichel to be a physical and aggressive skilled winger. This just isn't going to happen. On top of that they wanted him to play center. They need to just let these guys play hockey.</div></div>
Yeah. Although, if he is trying to teach him different ways to play the game and add more to his toolkit, it could be a good thing. You need to be able to do a lot more in todays NHL if you want to have a long and successful career. So, If that is the case, I just hope he doesn't lose those other parts of his game that got him where he is in the first place and can eventually put it all together. If he can do that, then this will all be worth it. Development with the added bonus of higher draft picks. We don't really need this team to be great right now.
Edit: Also, always try to remember the old hockey adage: "Development is not linear."

Murphy is not a "low cost" option. I wouldn't even consider trading him for that without retention, let alone with retention.

Monster Deadline Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SwarmChair</b></div><div>You need to look at it from Edmontons perspective. Read above the option to buy out Campbell. An easy move that won’t disrupt the current roster and doesn’t destroy our prospects pipeline.
Teams can get greedy all they want and ask for the moon to take on Campbell. Oilers can easilly just say nahhhh. Which is exactly what they are doing.</div></div>
It's not greed. It's just the price of a cap dump with that sort of salary and term. I understand what the buyout option is. But EDM still cannot do that until the summer, and they are worried about this season. Even then, what you consider a measly buyout penalty, can very quickly become a problem. Especially when it is 6 years long and especially during those two $2m+ seasons. It's certainly an option that they will have to weigh and likely not do. But if they want to dump that much cap and term, two 1sts is the bottom line price, and CHI sending anything back is generous.

That is a ridiculous notion. CHI would be generous to send anything in return for taking on Campbell's contract. Mcleod and Lavoie are interesting players, but they aren't worth a whole lot in trade. If you think that favors CHI, you're just plain wrong. This would be a discount. Not our fault your GM signed an awful contract. I like it because we can absorb the cap hit with very little discomfort and get decent assets that help our rebuild. But the fact that CHI can do it comfortably doesn't change the price to get it done.

A first and a third to dump Campbell then you add the 3rd for mrazek then you add the second for Dickinson then you add the 3rd for kachouck and then they send you guys a 6th I’m pretty sure a second+3 thirds and a sixth equals a first lol

Hopefully the work Reichel supposedly did this summer pays off. He needs to be a whole lot better defensively and at the dot to stick at C. But if ever there was a time to try this, it's this season. Still think Reichel ends up on a W long term.

Also, I think prospect camp confirmed my belief that Korchinski will go back to the WHL this year. If they aren't keeping him up for 10 games and burning a year of his deal, there isn't much benefit to keeping him up in the NHL beyond training camp. If they want him to "get NHL experience", I think letting him play up until the very last preseason game would be beneficial enough. That way he'll get a look at rosters that are a lot closer to being complete.

I think its hard to say these are all the perfect moves, because we will only know with time. We'll know if 5 years how good the rebuild was. Yes, he was "gifted" bedard, but he also came in with a plan, stuck to the plan, and that is what put the blackhawks in the position to win the draft. He made some tough choices, was very clear with his intentions, and did what he said he would. I think even if the hawks drafted 4th or 5th OA this year, you still look at what he's done and see the Hawks are on the right path. So BEST GM, tough to call 2 years in. Good GM so far and I agree with most moves- Certainly.

Great asset management and I give him credit for that but the jury is and will continue to be out on the picks until guys like nazar, korchinski, moore, make the nhl. I'm skepitcal to crown him this perfect drafter when a ton of our late 1st/2nd/3rd round picks have been off the board from consensus and we havent seen them pan out yet. If anything, KD has huge shoes to fill in the scouting dept since Mark Kelley had an amazing ability to pick out guys like reichel, debrincat, hartman, schmaltz, danault, saad from that 20-40 range AND had the best euro pro scouting dept in the league that snagged us probably a dozen pros since our last cup.
Its easy to tank, its tough to win. I really like what he's done but lets wait a few years before we really determine how good of a talent evaluator and deal maker he really is.

I'll join the group saying that, while I think Davidson has done a great job getting value for players that weren't part of the rebuild, I also think you have to hold out full marks until we start seeing what these picks turn into. Can't really give credit for Bedard because that's literally winning the lottery - I want to see what guys like Korchinski and Nazar turn into at the NHL level before I start talking about Davidson being the best GM in the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Not_Isles5513</b></div><div>The Hagel trade has worked out well for both teams tbh, and Raddysh is nowhere near as good as Hagel. Also, the DeBrincat trade return didn’t look fantastic at the time and it still doesn’t. Only great trade he made was dealing Dach to Montreal for 13th overall.
Then let’s talk about his cap management and free agency decisions. This dude decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Dylan Strome, Dominik Kubalik, and Caleb Jones. He’s given out incredibly bloated contracts to Athanasiou and Foligno which makes no sense considering he could have just taken on more cap dumps like Josh Bailey. And even tho I understand why he would want Taylor Hall to mentor Connor Bedard, he shouldn’t have helped Boston out with their cap issues for free. Dude isn’t a great GM just cause his team won the lottery.</div></div>
The buyout of Bailey was planned prior to the trade I believe as he wanted to test FA. They liked the fit with Athanasiou and they brought in Foligno and Perry for leadership. Hall is probably really there so that Bedard can produce but the team will still suck, and they probably want to win the lottery again.
I think KD should get credit for taking advantage of Bedard being in the draft and really committing to it even by letting Strome and Kubalik go untendered.

Too early for that. He was gifted a 1OA in a year in which a generational player was available. The trades are good but the picks still have to pan out before you judge them. We need to revisit this in about 3 years or so.
