Kaprizov and Team Russia
I feel like the caps would want to move Kuznetsov in any potential Kaprizov deal since they'd be tying up tons of between four players (Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Kaprizov and Carlson would be five players all making 7.8 or higher)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GirouxCrew</b></div><div>Chuck Fletcher wants a guy who will challenge Carter Hart. Looking for a tandem that could split time. Possibly 45/35. Idk how many contending teams are looking for a starting goalie. So I’m not sure where is a better fit for him. It would be a good opportunity for him in Philly</div></div>
Ullmark's agent has said he is seeking a 6x6 for his next deal, he doesn't care about going to a contender he just wants to be a starter which is 100% a no-go in Philly. Sorry to break the news

Not giving up a 1 to dump TJ
Not sure how willing Columbus would be to retain salary on the two fairly valuable assets they're trading when they acquire a cap dump, imo any Johnson trade needs to involve at least a first to entice teams. A return like this for only two second round picks seems a little bit overly optimistic

With the way he played this year I think they're hesitant to lock him up with starter money long term, a 5x5 would not surprise me however if they feel confident he can take control as a true #1 goalie

Not sure if Linus Ullmark would be willing to sign with Philadelphia since they wouldn't give him the starting job in net and he knows other teams could pay him and make him the number one goalie

Expansion Draft Plus Instant Player Flips
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Price can't be flipped unless he waives his NMC but I doubt he waives because he either wants to be in Montreal or he wants to be closer to home there is no other scenario that he envisions IMO. They wouldn't be flipping Price, he'd just be on IR until the hip surgery is over with. The only player I see being an instant flip is Tarasenko

Addressing capitals misconceptions from this site
Why do so many people want Mikheyev? Is it just because of the memes because he's not that good and has zero place in this team. However I like Tarasenko for Kuznetsov if St. Louis adds a pick or packages him with Dunn plus a pick and then we'd give up Dillon/Schultz

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>When have they ever used him as an offensive defensemen? He was part of the high end shut down pair of Orlov-Nisky. He was put with Carlson to play defense for him. He gets about zero PP time. He was never ever expected to put up points. Ever.
2 way is offense and defense. Doesn't mean you need to be an elite offensive weapon. He's a guy you can put out there to shut down opponets and put up 30+ points a season. He does all of that. He's great. Numbers aren't everything and the eye test sometimes help. In this case, it helps. By the eyes he's fantastic.</div></div>
Yes two-way doesn't require fantastic offense, but it needs more than 3 points over 22 games. Also, Orlov gets lots of pp time, after Carlson it's always either him or Schultz depending on who's more fresh, I'm sorry that you disagree but as far as I can tell Orlov is an overpaid player that could benefit from a trade. His value is 100% less than a first round pick plus to most gms though

CBJ trade makes sense if we get RFA rights to Laine also
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyVC97</b></div><div>If you give him a year to "rebound" when you go back to the contract negotiations he will command at least 9.5 AVV if not more. This is a bargin for a long term deal for Laine.</div></div>
But you're assuming he returns to form, if Laine continues to struggle that eight years at eight million turns into a Ryan Johansen style contract, good player, but not even close to being worth the money

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyVC97</b></div><div>I think his "off" year was all about his situation in CBJ. He has much better centers with the Jets and the Hawks can make that happen again. He can be a sniper for years to come with the Hawks and I think he would love the big city life in Chicago as well.</div></div>
But if it wasn't just the situation in CBJ and he's simply not the player he used to be that's a horrible contract he's gotten locked into, give him even just a one year prove it deal before you sign a guy who got 24 points in 46 games to an eight year deal paying out 8 mil per year

Locking in Laine to an 8x8 after the year he just had is a pretty ballsy move, rn I'd say a 2-3 year bridge is the best contract for him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>The issue is you're still looking at offensive stats. He is not an offensive defensemen. He isn't paid to be Carlson or Green. He's paid to be a great 2 way player and that is exactly what he is.
Orlov increases our chances to win every night. He's our best all around defensemen. I will never understand how some people think Orlov is bad. It's absolutely mind boggling to me. His analytics have always been top of the game.</div></div>
First of all the caps are trying to use him as an offensive defenseman which hurts his value but secondly what does two-way mean? Defense AND offense, you need to at least recognize he's not strong enough offensively to be paid like a great two-way player because he simply isn't. Analytics aren't everything, sometimes the classic eye test is all you need

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>Again, EVERY player EVER has slumps. You don't trade one of the best two way defensemen in the game because in a weird shortened season he put up 3 points in the first 20 games.</div></div>
Like I said, anything over 20 games is NOT a slump, it's just plain bad. Here's the problem with inconsistent players, even though stats might balance out by the end of the year what that doesn't show you is that when they're at their worst, they are a clear liability to the team and cost them wins. You cannot look at how Orlov played in January and February this year and be able to justify calling him one of the best two-way defensemen in the game. It's been like this since 2018-19, Orlov balances out his stats by year end but during some 20 game chunk at the start or mid-season he's nothing on offense, a defensive liability, and a player that costs the team wins. I'm not for keeping around a guy who will decrease your odds of winning in about 25% of games, other teams know that too and they won't give up a first round pick and more to acquire him. I rest my case.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>Plus/Minus is the stupidest stat in the game. It's uselss. You could look at every defensemen's career and pick out a 22 game stretch where there wasn't much production. If you are going to base him on his first 22 games, why not base anything on his last 29 games where he put up 20 points? So weird you are focusing on just 22 games of his 567 game career.</div></div>
The reason you focus on streaks is because they show inconsistency, anything between 7-15 games is a slump. 20+ is inconsistency, inconsistency is not worth 5.1 million against the cap for the next two seasons

If you're looking for him to put up numbers than yeah I can see why you're upset but he was NEVER EVER supposed to be an offensive defensemen. He's a two-way defensemen with great underlying stats that drives play. He wasn't drafted as an offensive defensemen and was never supposed to be.</div></div>
Even if he's a two-way defender how can that justify zero assists through 22 games? That -4 in the same stretch also doesn't help his defensive game

We don't need Dunn or Tarasenko. I like Dunn but we have a milliong LHD already. If Caps feel like they absolutely HAVE to trade Kuz and Tara is their best offer, sure I'd take it. Otherwise I'm keepinghim.</div></div>
Here are some stats: 22 GP, 3G, 0A, 3P, -4. That's how Orlov started the year, for someone who's supposed to be an offensive defenseman, that inconsistency is unacceptable. If there's any team willing to take that 5.1 mil I'd take it in a heartbeat

If they're getting Tarasenko and Dunn I'd say do Kuzy + Orlov/Schultz/Dillon, also Orlov is not even worth a first, least clutch player on the team that's running a bad contract

Casually trying to fleece Washington into giving up a top 4 d, young scoring forward that showed lots of progress last year and the young guy who is possibly the #1 goalie next season in exchange for a solid, (yet really old) goalie on a bad deal to a team trying to clear cap room for Ovechkin plus a fourth liner. No shot Washington does that first trade

If Washington trades Kuznetsov there's no way they'd retain any salary, the main point of moving him is to clear up room to resign Ovechkin and he has too much term on his contract to make a retained salary transaction

The one positive is Dunn is younger than Orlov. But Orlov is our best defenseman.</div></div>
But the thing that Washington needs more than anything else is cap space, Orlov is solid enough but not 5.1 million solid. St Louis and Washington are both taking risks on struggling players that need a bounce back with Tarasenko and Kuznetsov, Orlov is traded for cap reasons and then the caps acquire the rights to Dunn and sign him on a buy low contract
