All in next 2 years
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheDream_43</b></div><div>Definitely lots of variables with young guys. Kerfoot is probably just a depth luxury the team can't afford next season. Mik asked out last year for ice time issues, which though have increased I definitely see the hoping for a bigger role with a team next year. I like the player, so wouldn't be opposed to resign at a low #.
Also, hoping the Oilers can figure out the depth issue over there. The core is insane and it's almost annoying to watch even from the outside how they haven't put it together. A few tweaks to the depth, plus a goalie could make that team a dreadful matchup for 7.</div></div>
Ah I see. Yah Kerfoots 3.5M is definitely not helping. I forgot Mikheyev asked out… yah he will probably leave. I think they could make it past the first round this, and years to come. If Kerfoot was making less, I would say keep him, but 3.5M while you are tight against the cap is hard to work around.
I’m also hoping the oilers can too. It’s upsetting that we are not in a playoff spot, but we have won two in a row now, so maybe we can start winning again. It’s a easy fix for the oilers, but Holland won’t do anything till the off-season. We definitely need better depth, a starter, and I would like a top 4 right shot defence man as well. After that, I think both of our teams could be very good next year even! Conference finals matchup: Oilers vs Leafs… I would love to see that!
It was nice talking to you, and having discussion about the teams! Have a good one.

Personally i think he is useless but i mean could still go after Appleton ..plus he is cheaper...send Engvall then and a pick...i just liked what i saw of Appleton when he played the Leafs...seem to remember hearing his name a lot during broatcasts...which to me is good as he is making himself seen...not a floater that makes ya wonder half way through the game...Is this guy playing tonight?

If somehow the trade is huge like that though, Rielly will be out the door, and the return absolutely would be higher than expected to the "consolation price team"</div></div>
Not a chance CHI is doing that deal even taking away Cat or Dach.

I need some clarification from Leafs fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja</b></div><div>Well my point was only that a NYR exec saying that would not do that deal may not mean that it's not enough; Dreger never said that the value was lacking. Dreger only said that a NYR exec said that they would not do that deal; they may have other interests and Sandin is not one of them. They may want an established winger instead. And asking for a Kapanen or Johnsson is simply a starting price; does not mean NYR's reservation price is that high. But I think Leafs fans saw that as NYR saying that it was not enough, but that may not be what his report meant.</div></div>
Let's put it this way. The leafs don't need another centre, but if someone offered us Cirelli for woll, the answer is yes 9000x over

First of all, ignore Dreger.
Secondly,
Where they are today:
Kappy-Johnsson
Sandin
Their potential:
Sandin
Kappy
Johnsson
Geo isn't worth any of them straight up and it isn't close, even suggesting sandin (apparently he asked Gorton if sandin would do it) erases any remaining credibility he has.

Roy probably wasnt in the budget and smith doing it for the minimum
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheDream_43</b></div><div>As a Leafs fan, I can tell you Smith probably isn't as bad as it looks. He's good with you guys and players love him. I wasn't a huge fan but I feel as though a lot of it was the Babcock dynamic as I live in Windsor and watched him coach much differently. He'd fit the Sens for the 3 years he's signed and likely move on afterward, Roy wouldn't exactly be the greatest anyways. You'll have a few extra mill to spend on players now anyways since Melnyk probably has an internal cap for the whole operation.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Smith is probably a better option than Roy for this young, fast team. I agree with the MelnykOut sentiment, but I believe them when they say it wasn't a money thing.
Still don't think it was the right Choice, (I really wanted Brad Shaw) but it's probably good they're going with someone new and with a fresh perspective.
I'm willing to reserve my judgment on the staff changes until we have a new POHO. we'll know pretty quickly if they're hiring someone who will actually do the job right, and keep the owner's worst impulses in check, or if it will be another in a long line of yes men. I'm really Hoping for Ron Francis. He's a smart man, and he won't take **** from anybody.</div></div>
Ya I don’t think anything changes in Ottawa til they get another owner buffer in place like Murray must have been, Francis could be a good call, he quietly built a nice squad in Carolina, that one could argue in as good of shape as Tb, light a superstar or two. I’m not second guessing smith, more than what I am guessing is a trial run to a better gig for him, and development assignment. Ottawa’s not doing enough to turn the corner

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheDream_43</b></div><div>I'd see them going for Lemieux before Lindgren as well. Leafs have a hump year cap wise, after this year things loosen up a lot (Still not easy to fit everyone, but most competitive teams don't have room)</div></div>
That's actually fine. I can trade Lemieux in the Toronto deal and trade Lindgren to Anaheim and I think they still accept...Maybe drop the picks.

Screw Paul Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MichaelFu</b></div><div>Exactly the Leafs will not offer Mitch more than 8.5 million, which Paul is most certainly not going to accept. To be fair, each of Nylander, Tavares and Matthews got paid higher than their average market value:
Nylander: 6.25 million, actual salary: 7 million
Tavares: 10 million, actual salary: 11 million
Matthews: 11 million, actual salary: 12 million
Marner’s market value is around 8.5 million. The other stars got more than their actual worth, so why shouldn’t Marner get more?</div></div>
Well even if your right each got paid only 1 million more than market value which mean he is only a 9.5 million dollar winger at this point.

I disagree, he's a tad soft but in the age of extremism that we live in, it gets blown out of proportion. He was dictated play when on the ice and did end up a plus 1 in the series. It would have been better had he not had ****ing Brown and Marleau for wingers. I was calling for Kapanen to get put down with Nylander and either Moore or Brown moving up to play with Matthews. Nylander had several nice setups to Brown and Marleau and they did nothing with them. He could have and should have had more points. There was one save that Rask made in which Brown would have shot the puck across the crease had Rask not been there. Had the entire net to shoot at and shot it at the goalie who wasn't at all in a position to make the save.

That guy is hell bent on trading Nylander for a bag of nuts and an old sweater. Nylander right up until he held out was considered very close to Marner in talent. One bad year and many idiots on here think he's worthless and a bust now. Its a joke, he's a top level Right Winger and playmaker. The Leafs very easily could have 4 guys in the top 25 in scoring on any given year in Marner, Matthews, Tavares and Nylander. Trading any of them is dumb, unless its a deal you just can't say no to.
