No thanks. If he's a throw in to a larger deal, sure, but I'd rather we keep the picks.

What's wrong with having him on the team to start the year? He's a fine top 4 D. I wouldn't move Dumba for Towes with half retention straight up, let alone add all this

The only player on the Islanders worth considering moving Boldy for is Barzal. And frankly I don't know if either team does that.

FWIW he isn't saying the Leafs are "in" on Dumba, just that they have had interest in the past and they could still have interest. I wouldn't call this a report or anything, though historically Russo hasn't said speculative stuff like this without knowing something. Basically it's an interesting nugget, but it's not like the Leafs are hot in pursuit of Dumba or anything.

New Miller trade idea to take a step back this season
Interesting. I like the conditional pick. I do think it feels light for the Canucks but as you mentioned teams get desperate at the deadline and it wouldn't shock me if Dumba returned a 1st. Getting a 1st, 2nd that could be a 1st, and Addison for a rental is a pretty stellar return.
I know Canucks fans want a more defensive D than Dumba, but he played more minutes than Spurgeon for us and was overall actually fine in his own zone. He definitely is prone to dumb mistakes, but he has good moments as well and I think for the most part the good outweighs the bad. I think he's a solid #3-4 on most teams.
Here's his player card from The Athletic this season. He actually hasn't been a huge offensive generator since he tore his pec a few seasons ago which goes against the narrative that he's an offensive defenseman, but he does still have a very powerful slapper.

Chevy lights one up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tsyls</b></div><div>I pretty much looked at it as Minnesota is guaranteed two years of Dubois at a reasonable cost. Sure he may be gone after that, but Minnesota has cap issues <strong>and are built to win now</strong> and in the future. Trading a few pieces that don’t make a huge impact to the roster to make a deep run during some hard years would be great.
But again, I fully understand any team not wanting to deal with the Dubois headache. I tried to come up with some different ideas and not the prototypical PLD to MTL BS.</div></div>
I actually disagree there even though Guerin publicly says he wants to remain competitive this season. I think our true window is 2-3 years from now when Rossi, Boldy, Lambos, Wallstedt, and Faber are all entering their primes while Kaprizov, Brodin, and Ek are still under contract and in their primes.
The Wild outperformed expectations dramatically last year. Nobody thought we'd be as good as we were. I just don't think it's realistic to expect us to perform similarly when we lost Fiala and Talbot as well as the fact Hartman, Gaudreau, Foligno, and Zuccarello all had career years. Call me pessimistic but I'd be really surprised if those guys don't regress next season. I see us as a wild card team that won't be able to beat Colorado in a playoff series, even with someone like Dubois.

Honestly I don't think it's too terribly far off for a young center signed to a reasonable deal. I just would rather save the assets and the headache of acquiring Dubois who wouldn't want to be here in the first place. It's a pretty interesting idea though.

Considering Dubois is most likely going to bolt to Montreal as soon as he can, I wouldn't touch that deal even if it does solve a big hole for us.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildnochance</b></div><div>Rather keep our 1st especially in a draft which is supposed to be one of the deepest in a long while. I don't disagree but if you can get a 1st in a different deal for Dumba like this post, then I would definitely consider moving one for Miller.
2nd and Addison is nowhere near enough for Miller. You realize this guy scored 9 fewer points than Kaprizov, and is a center, right? I caught a fair amount of Canucks games last year just to watch Miller. He is really good, he's better than Fiala and would easily be our 2nd best player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildnochance</b></div><div>But even reporters like Friedman or whatever his name is, has stated at deadlines including last year people continue to basically laugh at ottowa behind their back for making that deal. I think if jt was worth that, some teams would have. We all also know Guerin's hesitation to pay 1st rounder or prospects for rentals. No thanks to paying 1st round picks or prospects for rentals. 2nd round pick, yes</div></div>
I'm not talking about Ottawa, I'm talking about the trade that sent Duchene to Columbus. At the time, Duchene had 1 year remaining on a $6M deal, was fresh off a 70 point season in 73 games, and was moved for a 1st, Davidsson, Abramov, and a coniditonal first upon Duchene re-signing (no longer allowed). At the time, that's a pretty close price to this package for a worse player. And I think if you asked Jarmo, he'd do that deal again. Duchene was great for them in the playoffs.

Billy's motto has always been "if it makes us a better team, we'll do it". He has said that many times ever since he has been hired. I don't think he's going to do something just to do something, he really doesn't <em>have</em> to do anything... And by all accounts he has been shopping Dumba. The fact nothing has happened yet says a lot about Dumba's value among GM's (IMO).

I think he's worth that. 9th in scoring among all players last year with 99 points. Hell, Duchene got about that when he was traded to Columbus and he was only about a PPG player when that trade was made.

I just don't see a team paying that for Zucc. He had a great year, but it's a big cap hit and he'll be 35 in a month. Might as well just keep him, he's good, best buds with Kap, and great in the room allegedly.

I doubt Toronto moves Knies, especially for a rental. I actually would prefer the pick if we are also acquiring Miller.
Ottawa won't pay that for Zucc, their top 6 is set anyways after the DeBrincat trade and signing Giroux.

We do, and the hope is that Rossi develops into that role, but that's going to be a very tough need to fill if he doesn't. We don't have the cap space to sign one and there's nobody on our roster that we could necessarily afford to trade to get one.

Pessimistic Optimist
Every Wild fan that I've talked to all think that we are a wildcard team and will make the playoffs. The "drop off" that everyone is talking about isn't referring to us suddenly becoming a bottom-dwelling team; rather, it's referring to the fact Gaudreau, Hartman, Zuccarello, and Foligno to an extent all had career years and it's unlikely they'll repeat that. Add in the fact we just lost Fiala who scored the second most points in a season in franchise history as well as Talbot who wasn't spectacular or anything, but he was very solid for us down the stretch and Gustavsson is a downgrade. Those are all ingredients to a recipe for us to take a step back.

Dumba and Capt Soo for Gophers TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>I know, I've had the same thoughts. I can't find anything that really enthuses either team, but there's probably a lukewarm package that works for both parties. Like you said, Dumba with retention for Kerfoot + futures piece is a pretty conceivable framework.
I have a hunch that Guerin and Dubas have had a few things they've kicked tires on - Dumba, probably Talbot. They seem open to business if there's a fit.</div></div>
They don't happen often, but maybe there's a 3-way trade to be made here where Sandin goes to a 3rd team, Toronto gets Dumba and some of the Sandin return, and the Wild get part of the Sandin return? Anaheim or the Kings could be a pretty good candidate for that 3rd team, they both need defenseman. I'm don't think the Kings have a ton of space though.
Spitballing here: does a swap involving Sandin to the Kings, Vilardi to the Wild, and Dumba and another asset to the Leafs make sense?

Just had the idea because we know Dubas has tried to trade for Dumba in the past and he loves his Soo players.</div></div>
I've been sitting on a post for 4-5 days now for a Dumba to Toronto trade but I can't really figure out a good package for a deal. I wouldn't mind adding Kerfoot as one of the pieces, but other than that there's just not much I think Toronto would be willing to part with that's worth it for us. I like Sandin but we'd be adding if he were a piece and we already have a ton of LD in our system. They don't own a 2nd this year but Dumba with retention for Kerfoot and a 2nd doesn't seem too far off.
