No chance Cernak would take minutes from Seider, but Cernak could easily take minutes away from Hronek. Both could be seen as #4 D.

I disagree with you, Cernak is not a bottom pair D-man. He's no number 1 or 2 D-man, but I think he would be playing in just about every teams top 4.
Maybe trading Veleno would be the wrong move, but as I captioned this "I'm not a GM" LOL

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoreHitzSeider</b></div><div>Fabbri will likely be out until at least January if he's even back at all. Even if he's back he won't be playing C. It takes 2 years to fully recover from a torn ACL or MCL. Suter will be 2C again if Stevie doesn't sign a 2C like Trochek in UFA. Veleno will be given more minutes at C. I expect Ras to play both C and wing again. Suter is much better as a C than he is as a winger. Ras can use his size more effectively on the wing.
It'll all depend on who the new head coach is as well. There's too many uncertainties to say Rasmussen will be a permanent 2C.</div></div>
So much uncertainty everywhere. I think Fabbri is a winger no doubts and hopefully his recovery goes well and he returns to form to play as good or better than prior to his injury . As I mentioned, I don't think Ras is a 2C at all. I just tried to balance out the size and skill sets over the top 3 lines. Suter is definitely better suited overall as a 2C than Ras.
I couldn't tell you what direction Yzerman goes with a new head coach. I just know he wants someone that will come in and hold the players to a higher standard and will clean up the defensive issues.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Datsyukian</b></div><div>None of this is true. Tampa will have to move some pieces and Serg will have a much bigger pay day than Cernak. Serg will be expensive but I think the Wings can get it done with a combo of Zadina, Wallinder, and their 1st. Keeps tampa light and talented at the same time.
Veleno is developing nicely and we need him to continue to do that. No point in trading him away for a 2nd/3rd pair Dman right now. Serg is a 24 year old 1st pair Dman on the left side. He is elite.
What 2C is Yzerman trading for? What does it cost? Have no interest in any of the C UFAs this year - they will all be severely overpaid.</div></div>
Yeah Tampa will have to move pieces and maybe it's Sergachev? Yes, I agree Sergachev is an elite D-man. I just put a deal together with Cernak that I thought would move the needle a bit to solidify the Wings D-corp so we're not giving up 3.5 goals a game.
Veleno is developing nicely, he's still young. I think he's still going to be a decent NHLer and have a nice career. Do I see him part of the Wings long term, I could. Could I also see him traded in a package deal to bring in a proven NHL player that helps the team take that next step, I could. Long term outlook, I just see him as a 3C with any team he'd play for with the ability to fill in at 2C in a pinch.
I couldn't tell you what 2C Yzerman would trade for as it's very difficult to get a willing trade partner for a 2C without overpaying. I agree that the C UFA's this year aren't of much interest because you're right, they will all be overpaid or given too many years on a deal. That leaves us with draft and develop a 2C hopefully.

I'd agree Cernak gets a deal relative to the Carlo deal for his next contract. I just can't see Sergachev getting moved over Cernak because Sergachev is a bit younger and more productive offensively. I think with Cernak, Tampa could part ways easier with a player like him because they have a younger cheaper version in Cal Foote.

Rather give up better assets and go after Sergachev.</div></div>
Sergachev isn't leaving Tampa unless a team overpays drastically. Other than Larkin, the Wings have 0 C depth as is. Veleno (while still a good young player) I don't see him being any better than a 3rd line C in my opinion. Adding a guy like Cernak on the back end solidifies 3 of the top 4 D spots and allows for Yzerman to go after a 2C via trade/FA or if we're lucky we draft one that makes the team quicker than expected.

Yeah the Cernak deal might be jumping the gun, but give it a season and I would expect to see him traded because Tampa (as of their current cap situation) cannot pay him the contract he's due.
I like Mackey a lot as a 4/5/6 D-man and he fits right into the age range Yzerman is trying to acquire. Given Calgary's depth at D, I don't see room for him to crack their lineup at the moment.

I agree Rasmussen on the wing would be ideal, but the Wings don't have many other options at the C position. When Fabbri returns that might shuffle the cards and bump him down the line up and to the wing where he should be playing. (3rd/4th line role player)

Cernak might seem untouchable, but he's due a contract in a couple years that Tampa currently doesn't have room to accommodate. Unless Tampa can shed salary elsewhere in the coming years I'd say Cernak being moved to replenish some assets is certainly a possibility.

I agree rust is definitely a factor and it's early in the season still. I'm basing this trade on the sole fact that his compete level this year is almost non existent and in recent years it has been acceptable about 50-60% of games. When he moves his feet and decides to skate, he's truly an exceptional player. If he decides to skate harder and give a better effort night in and night out... I wouldn't have any thoughts about what the Wings could get in return via trade.

I'm not excusing it, as he needs to take personal responsibility for his conditioning, but I wouldn't hit the panic button on him until at least week 3. With that said, he's been very bad thus far.</div></div>
Yeah I agree, it's been some time since he's played and rust is certainly a factor. I still think he's got the potential to be an outstanding player, but I just don't see the commitment and effort game in, game out for him to be that player everyone expects him to be.

Who knows with Mantha, but I can't stand the lack luster effort. When he decides he wants to play hockey, he can easily be the best player on the ice. My guess is he's trying to get out of Detroit just like Dubois wanted out of Columbus, but Mantha hasn't been vocal about it (yet). Obviously, the Wings aren't loaded with super star talent to hide his lazy play, so I'd gladly take a player of a bit less skill that gives 110% game in, game out.
That being said, I think DeBrincat is of an equal skillset to Mantha's. Each player is more dominant in different parts of their games, but I feel it would be a pretty fair trade in the end. Wings get a pure goal scorer and a guy who shows up to play nightly. Hawks get a player with great potential and cap relief.

Its going to take time
Not entirely confident that Tampa would go for this trade, but with them being strapped up against the CAP I know they are going to have to part ways with one of their forwards making $5+ million or let go one of their players due for a substantial contract. I think 2 former first rounders who have some up side still with value contracts could go a long way for a cup contender. Toss in a 2nd rounder and Tampa gets some future value as well.

As a Wings fan - I know we're rebuilding and draft picks are king when it comes to a rebuild, but I would have no issues with losing a 1st and 3rd to acquire an already proven NHLer that is 21 years old and fills the need of a top pair defenseman. Anything more than a 1st and 3rd wouldn't be worth the offer sheet though.

I would think so as well, but it'd surely be worth it for the Wings to explore this option. As long as the Wings offer sheet (if accepted) wouldn't cost them more than a 1st and 3rd. Anything above wouldn't be worth it.

If we can't get Jarry then maybe a trade/signing for Murray. Anything is better than what the Wings currently have in between the pipes. I'd certainly would not give up a decent prospect and a 3rd for Murray though.

2020-2021 Changing of the Guard
HabsForEver - I see him playing either LW or Center on the 3rd/4th line if this trade happened. He'd be a depth piece that has lots of playoff experience. He's only got 1 year left on his deal at this point and the Wings playing him as a 2nd line Center isn't where he should be playing. His plus minus at -27 says enough that he's not a 2C anymore and would be better off in a limited role. The Wings have plenty of role players and Filppula would help a team that can contend in the playoffs.
wingss - I'm aware Carolina probably wouldn't make this trade, but one can only hope. The Rangers trade is a crap shoot. Only reason I think it'd be possibility is because Andersson is buried on the depth chart for them and they have a lot of young talent already. Maybe the Rangers would entertain the trade with different pieces/prospects... who knows. As far as the contracts and money for Bertuzzi, Mantha and AA I believe I'm in the ballpark on most of the contracts based on previous years.
Starting with Bertuzzi - I agree I'm a bit light on $ for this if you are looking at this years improvements but I'd currently compare his contract offer to something similar to what Andrew Shaw makes per year ($3.9M). I based his contract off of the numbers he posted in the 18-19 season. Now that said, Bertuzzi is on pace to have roughly 65 points this year, which would warrant a contract around the $5.4-$5.9M range.
As for AA - I believe he is an electric player at times and can be a key player for the Wings future. The problem I have with handing out anything over $5M with more term than 4 years is because he's shown year after year that he is really inconsistent. When he's hot, he's on fire... but when he's cold, he's ice cold and a defensive liability. He reminds me a lot of a young Darren Helm, but more skilled handling the puck. Yes, he put up 54 pts and 30 goals last season which should warrant a contract in the $5-$5.5 range. I don't see him as anything more than a 2nd line forward that could spot fill on a 1st line if needed. Paying AA anything more than $5M would hinder the Wings ability in a couple years to fill out a more well rounder roster up front and on the back end. This would also allow his contract to be trade-able if the Wings ever explore that idea.
In regards to Mantha - he's deserving of a nice pay day as he's turning into the player the Wings had hoped for when they drafted him. I do think they try to keep it under $7M with term of 6-7 years though. He's a power forward that can produce at all ends of the ice and could possibly be a point per game player (pending he could stay healthy for an entire season). I think they will reward him, but they will also keep in mind that Mantha, Bert, AA, Larks and Hronek are the key pieces to the rebuild and there will be a couple pieces to the puzzle that they will have trade for or find in free agency that will need paid in order to make this team a contender for the playoffs again.

2019-2020 Opening Night
I could see Ras or Ehn getting the spot over Svech as well, but I think they need to give Svech a solid look against some NHL caliber competition. They don't know really where he fits because of the injury last year and sticking him in the AHL, would only delay figuring out where he's at on the depth charts. The Wings know what they have in Ehn and Ras for the most part and they will be part of this team for years to come, pending they don't end up in a trade. All in all, if we are looking at just the preseason performance I'd plug in Ras, but I think they want him playing Center in the near future and want to give him time in the AHL to develop that part of his game further. Doesn't help we have a log jam of vets down the middle excluding Larks.
