Chicago Blackhawks signed Alex Vlasic (6 Years / $4,600,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ste_Catherine_Street</b></div><div>I respectfully disagree with everyone saying this is a good contract. He's played less than 100 games. 6 years 4.5M is crazy risky.
What was the rush to sign him long-term???? Sorry but this guy is a 3rd pairing dman. Hate the risk to this.</div></div>
He already has some of the best defensive numbers out of all the dmen in the league. So not sure what about that screams '3rd Pair'.....

Solid contract, look at players like John Marino, Mikey Anderson, Mattias Samuelsson, etc who've signed this type of deal, Chicago has all the cap space and once they start competing getting Vlasic at 4.6 will be huge

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigVuVu</b></div><div>Canes gave him and 5th round pick for Kase's brother playing in Czech Republic, Don WaddeLL masterclass</div></div>
I mean he was dealt for a few reasons
1. He was an excess good in the Hurricanes farm system
2. As a favor to Daniel Brière after he bought out TDA so that we could sign him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Svechy37</b></div><div>Gotta think that these recent signings of prospects and now European players means the Canes are close to a AHL affiliation deal. I see the Liiga to Carolina pipeline is alive and well

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>You can just... buy an AHL team. Hell Even Eugene Melnyk knew it was worth the price to establish your own in house farm system.</div></div>
Not really, the Canes have offered to pay for an expansion AHL team, the AHL declined, The Canes have to affiliate with the Wolves basically and the Wolves chose not to this year and might try to continue, the Canes don't exactly have many options, they have 1, re-affiliate with the Wolves

(CAR/OTT) - Rees for 2024 6th (OTT)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Svechy37</b></div><div>Rees was a pretty fun player to watch two years ago...don't really know what happened. I know the whole AHL situation isn't ideal, and going to a new AHL team with Springfield was a big adjustment, but he was just plain awful with them. Played 2nd line sometimes, mostly on the 4th line when he wasn't scratched, in which he was a lot. I really like Rees physical play, and he was a beast in 22-23 after winning the calder cup, but I just wish he reaches the NHL one day. I don't think we would've ever gave him a good chance in the NHL, but I really wish he improves with Belleville/Ottawa, and getting a 6th rounder for what he is now is decent.</div></div>
As far as I know he's missed a lot of time between COVID, injuries, and suspensions. He seems to have gotten away from offense and leaned more into physical play, lost his identity, and squandered his opportunities.
All those factors have resulted in poor development and lost confidence in his ability to contribute positively at the NHL level.
Better chance as a reclamation project than a typical 6th round pick.

Canes get a 6th rounder for just $687K in cap space? Canes still have $5.95M to work with. Not bad work if you can get it.

(MTL/WPG) - Monahan for 2024 1st (WPG), 2027 3rd (WPG)
And thus Kent Hughes completes what might be an unprecedented two-step of transactions, getting paid a 1st to take a player and then reselling that player for another 1st. Shoutout to Brad Treliving, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Anyway, fair deal. Monahan should be a good addition to the Jets roster, and people who are complaining about his EV points will likely be surprised by his output with better wingers.

Waaaaaay too small of a sample size to give Hagel a contract like this. A 2-year bridge deal around 4M would've been more appropriate.
