An Outsiders Vision - CBJ
I like these…CBJ are at a weird place with the rebuild. A roster full of mostly young guys who just need the development and opportunity. Not really a lot of worthwhile vets who can be moved. Provorov will get moved, Laine as well (assuming he comes back healthy and can get back to the PPG player he showed flashes of), and I could see an Elvis buy-out either this off-season or next.
The G situation will need another year since Greaves is still waivers exempt, and has looked great in the AHL and limited NHL time (considering the team in front of him). Maybe Ivanov ends up being the real deal (he’s been a stud in the KHL), but he’s still best-case a few years away.
My only issue is the Marchy and Chinny contracts. I’d like to see M’s longer, and C’s shorter. He had a great breakout-season, but still had some injury problems, and I’d want to see him replicate it.

Pretty solid. I would just switch Sillinger and Jenner.
I think they absolutely have to add a vet dman like Tinordi on a one year deal this year to support the young guys and provide some depth.
My one (or two) wish(es) would be finding an upgrade for Laine and/or Merzlikins.

An Outsiders Vision - BUF
Interesting.
I will be interested to see what they do with Joki. If all you're getting for him is a 2nd round pick 2 years from now, I'd just rather keep him. BUF played 10 D-men last year. He could take Rousek's- waiver exempt- spot on the 23-man roster. BUF invested a 1st round pick into Joki and he's just starting to hit his prime. Getting a 2nd round pick is buying high and selling low.
Skinner is the other interesting piece. I think there are teams that would take a guy with 40-goal potential at $4.5. I would hope we wouldn't need to retain that much. Playing alongside Crosby makes a ton of sense...but BUF is also competing with PIT for a playoff spot. Not even sure what a return on that would look like. BUF needs Fs and they need goals. Moving on from him creates yet another hole.
I do agree though that moving on from Joker & Skinner would dramatically change the team formation. It's probably a necessary step to make, just not sure it happens this offseason. We shall see.

Interesting, some good points. I totally agree about needing a different skill set on defense. They also need grit practically everywhere, I'm not a fan of just throwing one or two guys on the 4th line or bottom pair to do it, I would invest real assets on finding grit with talent to play all over the roster. One sore spot with the op roster is center, neither Thompson or cozens are good defensively (still hopeful cozens gets there), and kulich is not the guy to pick up the slack as the 3c. If the Sabres are determined to roll Thompson and cozens out at center, they need a vet 3c that can cover d zone starts, pk, and win draws. The Skinner problem is complicated by his ntc, and his desire to play close to his toronto home, but I agree that it's time to move on.

Zary will play center next year with Huberdeau and Sharangovich. Then Kuzmenko and Pospisil with Kadri.
Pelletier 100% makes the team
Odds are Markstrom is traded this summer

Necas for Z doesn’t make sense for ANA. Fill a hole on RW by opening one at LW with someone who also fills in really well at C whenever McT or Leo are injured. Necas is an absolute steal on his current deal, but will almost certainly be overpaid starting next year for the duration of his new contract. He has solid production, but all his advanced stats are very concerning. Im out on him for ANA, but totally the right move for CAR to shop him
Any top 6 RW on a 2 year deal is a good add. Thats the perfect amount of term for ANA
We could really use a better RD than Chat though. Roy from LA is my preference rn
On the RFAs let Grouxl walk. Possibly Jones. Lacombe costs more. And though I like Vaak, the team did seem to prefer Lindstrom
Positionally Gauthier on the wing with Leo is my guess

I am not saying Necas is like Dubois but I will say I think the scenario might be the exact same — he will be to expensive to trade for and then he will also be to expensive to resign. I don’t think either of those will match the production
Faksa <em>could</em> be interesting but I think I’d rather just resign Isac Lundeström to play 4C
Chatfield is not a top pairing defenseman, at all
The left side on defense is going to be super interesting imo

EDM doesn’t have goaltending woes. Skinner is the now and the future. They could use a 1B, but don’t need a bonafide starter.

At this point, Savard is pretty meh imo. I have more confidence in Ceci to get the job done over him. I like Evans too, but would most definitely not give that much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>I disagree. Carson Soucy is a pretty great analogue for Zadorov (big, physical LD averaging ~17mins with some offense) and you guys just signed him for 3.25mil last year. The difference between them isn't 1.75mil and 2 years of term.</div></div>
I agree to an certain extent. Zadorov is more physical then Soucy but Soucy is more balanced. I do think if he wants term the cap hit should come down. I do think a 5 year deal should be 4-4.5m tops. But with other gms thinking he is the solution may push it to 5m.

That seems to be what he will ask, though I think its high. I would prefer 4mil, but....
And Van plays a system game with defense. He has been a big part. Yes, he is only play 17 mins avg. but he can be more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>The only way EDM invests such a significant amount of cap into a goalie is if Skinner has a 2nd piss poor playoff run. Otherwise, there's no reason to. He's been an above average starter since joining last year and he's both younger and cheaper than Jarry, who would bring a similar level of play. Even if he does play badly, I'm convinced they'd be confident in Jarry being so much better as to warrant investing 5.3mil<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>The only way EDM invests such a significant amount of cap into a goalie is if Skinner has a 2nd piss poor playoff run. This is definitely me projecting Skinner to not be good and fall on his face. At the end of the day, a prospect for Jarry. Regardless of the team. Leafs. Devils. Oilers. Whoever needs a goalie.
It's less about Broberg and more about the idea of shedding Jarry to get a prospect who's close to NHL ready back. Similar to Dubas' sentiment of not wanting as many draft picks and preferring prospects.</div></div>
