This team will be scary few yrs down the road
**This team <strong><em>MIGHT</em></strong> be scary a few years down the road.
Hoglander's offense projects as a top 6 but nothing else about his game does. He's really going have to put in work to make it. Even so, Madden makes it into the lineup over him.
Juolevi and Woo are third pairing in 3 years and hopefully they'll progress positively but that remains to be seen.
I doubt Rathbone ever makes the team, and Kole Lind looks good this year but has a looong way to go.
Canucks could be good if all their prospects hit their potential but why would we ever be that lucky?

How I would lineup the team for opening night
I love how that 2nd line looks. I think Gurianov makes the team, Dellandrea gets his 9 game tryout, and Johns likely plays. I say keep the top 2 lines the way they are and roll the bottom 6 with
Gurianov-Dellandrea-Perry
Cogliano-Faksa-Comeau

Marner and Rantanen
Honestly, I think Rantanen might be better than Marner. I think it would be a slap in his face to tell him he should make less than Marner if not equal to.
I think Sakic would let this pass, in the past Sakic has not shown that he is willing to blow the load and sign players to money that he feels might be a bit too wild financially.

One more splash
I like the addition, I just don't think you have the cap space if you want to keep Hall / Bratt / Hischier / Blackwood around next season. Maybe moving Kyle Palmieri would help in your scenario, but I think the Duchene move puts us in a bad cap situation for next season.

Horvat Stastny
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>Any Barrie trade for a player of Horvat's caliber would be contingent on an extension, it would have to be. As for the trade being crap, yeah it's a little muddy, but a 60 point center for a 60 point defenseman? I truly don't see how you can think that it's so lopsided. Take out all the extras (Van 1st, Kaut, etc.) and that's pretty damn even if there's an extension in place.
Don't go thinking that Avs fans are rushing to just give Barrie away. He's one of the best offensive defenseman in the league, and without a doubt the most underrated.</div></div>
Barrie is in his prime and Horvat hasn't reached that yet. Horvat is kind of like Bergeron 2.0. He's a core piece that you build around. You are not suppose to trade away players like that just because "there is an extension in place" for a guy that is one year from becoming a UFA. Try to actually understand the position that Vancouver is in right now. The nucks are still rebuilding and not ready to compete yet, so it is plain stupid to trade for a guy in his prime when your other younger players haven't reached that point yet. You cant just say "me avs fan, horvat fill our need, we trade barrie and make van add because barrie better and extension". You have to look at both sides and say to yourself "does this make sense for both parties". If Van trades Horvat, who is going to be that reliable two way 2C for them? Are they suppose to just shove Gaudette in that role and hope everything works out?

Playoffs next season
Eh, I'd rather keep Zucker and the pick. I like Kessel, but we need to re-stock our prospect pool after the years of trading 1sts and 2nds away under the Fletcher regime. It also seems like Kessel doesn't want to play here.
Duchene is intriguing but I don't think he'll sign in MN. Plus, this pushes Eriksson Ek down to the 4th line and he should be seeing middle 6 minutes.
Also, I hope dearly that we don't bring Aberg and Bitetto back. I'd MUCH rather extend Hunt over Bitetto and play Foligno on the 4th line over Aberg. Also, Gerry Mayhew will probably be our 4th line RW to start the year, he broke Iowa's goal scoring record last season.

it's honestly a good try, but couple things. Binnington gets a 1-yr bridge deal. Bleackley never turned out wouldn't be surprised if they let him go. Soshnikov is the same. Stevens looks good. Butler is older, but I like him in St.Louis hometown boy. Don't see them re-signing Coreau he will be 28, and in the minors highly doubt they do that. Thorburn is just dead cap in the minors right now wouldn't re-sign him, and Hainsey isn't needed. Bortuzzo is way better than Hainsey on Offense, and Defense. If we want to upgrade it's probably bringing in another LHD in a trade for Edmundson, selling Allen. Bringing Kyrou, and Kostin up next year. Steen stays on 4th Line. Bouwmeester with Parayko, Schenn 2nd Line LW, Schwartz Top line. Thomas 2nd Line Center. Sundqvist 3rd Line RW Barbashev to Center on the 4th Line. Bozak at Center. Try to sell Bozak, and Steen as well.

Edler and Hughes will be running the powerplay, Virtanen scored 15 goals playing with Sutter and Beagle, next season he will hit 20-25 goals and provide physicality. Virtanen will be a much more useful player for the Canucks in the playoffs.

Panarin Trouba Coach Q Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mk458</b></div><div>Can you really get Trouba for free next year? Is Winnipeg going to sign him to a 1 year deal and let him walk in free agency? I personally think they’d be crazy not to trade him to an American team that he’d be willing to sign with. American teams will still give up assets to acquire Trouba. He’s a top pairing, right shot, 6’3”, dman and he’s still young. I see a lot of Detroit fans say the same thing: “why give up assets for Trouba when we can sign him for free next year”. I’m not trying to get into a big argument or anything, I just think there’s no way Winnipeg isn’t going to get back good assets and players for him while they can.</div></div>
I think you have missed the concept of "free agency". Trouba appears to going the route of wanting to be a UFA, so he's in effect a one year rental. So while the Jets may want to trade, his value in a trade isn't worth a player a good player with term. And really why should he Jets trade him? If the Jets feel they need him for a Cup run next season, they keep him. There are about 80 UFAs every season, they don't all get traded and where would they go. Contending teams actually trade for upcoming UFAs to make themselves stronger playoffs. Why is Trouba so much different than so many of other upcoming UFAs? And he'll be a UFA, when he signs the mandated one year contract this summer

First of all, play Appleton, he is more than NHL ready now.
Secondly I like the above posts regarding trouba but this is simply not the right trade. The jets do not want to give up lowry or Appleton without replacement roster spots. Nor do they really want Pysyk or Mamin.
How about Trouba signed for 2019 1st (assuming they don't win the lottery tomorrow), Denisenko, and a 3rd.
OR
Trouba signed and Appleton for 2019 1st and Borgstrom
Keep Trockeck, we don't have to money for him and you need him more.

Of course they are going to trade him and there is their problem. Just like Panarin Bob, everyone knows they aren’t resigning with their current teams so why would anyone give up anything of significance to acquire them? I’m not saying they won’t get something for him but to think a piece like Trocheck would be involved wouldn’t be smart business. The only way I see a team giving up something like that is if getting that 8th year is that important.
