I'll reiterate - the Oilers have TONS of cap space this summer. Now, that doesn't mean it can't be squandered, but as it stands today they have plenty of space to add a few good players.

Anyhow my response was to a guy who stated that the Oilers can't afford to pay Nuge $7M, which even you have admitted isn't true.</div></div>

Klefbom may not be on the LTIR, there's 4m you didn't add. If not, Barrie is getting signed to an absurd contract. Say around 6 million.
That on top of Nuge takes up a lot of that cap space you were talking about. Unless it's a short term deal (2x4 or something), he'll be making 6 million. If he walks, then you have the issue of signing two top 6 players with 10 million left.

That's 10-12 million of the 25m in cap room, for two players.

If you do sign Nuge, you may still need a second line LW (Holloway may not be ready for that role, Kahun is more of a middle six guy), and that's about another 4-6 million.

Signing Nuge and Barrie: 12 million + the 9,625,000 that you proposed is around 21 million (out of 25 million) Klefbom being healthy results in 10m + 9,625,000.

Then you also neglected three players who will likely be re-signed:

Larsson is getting re-signed if Klefbom is back. I could see them not signing Barrie and choosing Larsson instead if Klefbom is ready next season. Definitely cheaper than the contract he's on now, but still a few million, let's say 2.5m. If Klefbom isn't back and then don't sign Barrie and run Larsson, you're significantly downgrading your team for a low amount of cap.

I doubt the let Haas walk. He's a good fourth liner. Not an expensive contract, but still near a million.

Stuart Skinner, dunno why you forgot him. Cheap, but the way he's playing in the AHL makes me not want to lose him.

So either the team remains relatively the same (or the exact same) except for Klefbom in for Barrie, or they significantly lose quality in their top 6 and RHD (although Bouchard may be ready to play more minutes).

Don't even get me started on if they DON'T buy out Neal.
