Treliving Trades for an RD
Forget trade values and what not. Habs aren't trading those players to the Leafs. The value returned isn't worth doing it plus they actually need these guys themselves.

Who wants Coronato in Exchange for a Young Centre
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Keep your eye on Lundell. He’s Good at Faceoffs and Responsible Defensively. He’s more of a 200ft complete player. Plus he’s more likely to be made available than most of these other guys</div></div>

Obviously player cards don't tell the entire story, but analytics haven't been kind to Lundell this season. Which matches my eye test.
It will be fun to see which player takes a step first - Lundell or Sillinger.

Hate to tell you this, because I wish it weren't the case, but neither Newhook, not Mesar, are Centers. Mesar plays RW in Kitchener. Newhook IS playing Center out of desperation, but his only success this year has come on the wing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lol what? Why would we trade Coronato?</div></div>
Because the Flames need a True Positional Centre to replace Lindholm and now Sharangovich and Americans don’t seem to want to play long-term in Canada
Gotta give to get, so I’m offering up Coronato to see what other Teams Fans have to say. IOW - Just Screwing Around
The other Target would be a Top-4 RD with Excellent Defensive Play and Shut Down Abilities to Replace Tanev

Mesar and Newhook aren't really centers. I'd do Mesar, but Newhook is too intriguing to give up on that early in the project.

Habs need another 23yrs 200ft game player for their rebuild

Again, <strong>since as you’ve said you wouldn’t be willing to add significantly to get Mercer</strong>, you do not have the facilities to get Mercer. Or at least are not willing to use them. Simple as that</div></div>
Never said that either... just that it would be debatable. It's hard to have a decent discussion when you make up your own arguments.
lot of factors would need to come into play. Who's calling for who (it makes a difference if it's MTL calling for Mercer vs if NJD is calling for Guhle)? Are other key assets in play (is someone trying to move up or down in the draft perhaps)? Does it happen at the draft, or after free agency (where perhaps NJD spend on an elite player...let's say Stamkos, and are now against the cap)? Lots of those things would have an impact on this hypothetical deal.

if they miss the playoffs and we offer lets say, if the top 3 forwards are gone (Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom and maybe Eiserman), we could send our pick and add more to get him imo

Boldy would be one of the guys I'd be trying to get. Necas and Lundell are also some targets, just prefer Boldy much more than Zegras.

Big move to shape up top 6
One of Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, or MTLs 24 1st which will be ~6OA, or it's no deal, it's that simple.
No combination of lesser assets gets the job done, there has to be a blue chip piece at the center of the deal.
If you wouldn't take it for Caufield, we won't take it for Zegras.

Add NYR to that group too. And the answer for all of those teams is absolutely not. They couldn’t add enough to compete against most of the legit contenders.

My take 7
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Here is a counter offer
Savoie, Kulich, Ostlund, Strbek for Jenner and Jiricek.
Three NHL ready forwards and a RHD.</div></div>
The sticking point is we still need a 1RD, and Strbek doesn't really project to be that as far as I know, and certainly isn't NHL ready. Unless we're getting a Jiricek-type back, it just doesn't make sense. He's under team control for years, under contract for 2 more, and his point of contention is literally just playing time. Management is out the door, he ends up an NHL regular by the end of the year, and this time next season we've probably forgotten he was even unhappy. No reason to trade that guy when he fills such a huge need.
I like Kulich, Ostlund, and Savoie, don't get me wrong, but unless they play D, it's not going to help long-term. Teams don't trade young, cost-controlled, U21 1RD. We're not going to be able to package them for a different one, and we can only play 12 forwards a night. That offer does nothing other than blast a gaping hole in our defense long-term, and create a new logjam of teenagers down the middle.

My take 7
You think Mittelstadt and a no value cap dump get you a top ten pick? Worse, our top ten pick this year plus our 2nd rounders for both this year's draft and next year's.
Do you honestly think Minnesota, who's in the bottom 10 of the league this year is going to wait until the 3rd round to make a selection in this year's draft?
They also already have Rossi and JEE in their top-six. So Mitts is playing 3C in Minnesota. Why would we pay that for someone who's going to cost more than we can afford, only to stick him into a 3rd line checking role?
Try and think about other teams situations and needs when making posts. It'll go a lot better for you in the future.

Post Monahan trades
MTL fans, please tell your friends. Small pieces won’t buy Z. Here are the base pieces needed to talk trade for Z. And note, if this isn’t of interest, that’s okay!! We do <strong>not</strong> want to trade him
Option 1: Reinbacher
Option 2: Slafkovsky
Option 3: MTL ‘24 1st + Beck/Mesar/Roy tier
All 3 may need some tinkering with other smaller pieces one way or the other, but if the trade doesn’t look like any of those three, we will very happily continue buying Zegras threads in ANA

In order to move Zegras, there needs to be a wow piece. That wow piece is Reinbacher.
Reinbacher and MTLs 25 2nd is the starting point, and taking Dvorak the other way will add cost because his real money owed is significantly above his cap hit, and that's a poison pill for a small market team.

Agree that Huuhtanen would not be in play. I saw him play a couple game and he look like a stud. Great scouting job by the Lightning.

Cam Fowler, Jackson LaCombe, Pavel Mintyukov, Olen Zellweger, plus others in the pipeline -- as nice a prospect as he is, Jordan Harris is redundant and unappealing to us because he's a LhD, and Dvorak is little more than a cap dump. I don't think that Zegras is on the market at all, because his trade value at this point (in the middle of a season in which he will play fewer than 40 games without injury) is the lowest it will ever be, but IF we wanted to move him, it would take a major valuable asset like Reinbacher or your 2024 first (once the final draft order is known).
