You might. But Toronto wouldn’t.

Saros is too small for Treliving’s team and frankly he wasn’t that good this year. They believe in Woll too much to go overpay for a guy like Saros

No Marner unless its for cheap
Marner doesn’t have any incentive to really waive his NMC for Chicago. They’re still not close to contending, and it’s not a tax free state. So why would he waive? If the only reason you’re thinking is to play with Bedard well he can play with other good players that are on contending teams.
That being said.. let’s hypothetically say he waived for Chicago, something could work with the teams but you’d have to widen your parameters a bit. Marner won’t come “cheap” but Toronto will be selling him at his all time low so don’t expect a huge haul. They’re going to fill at least one of their major holes by moving him being either a quality middle 6 centre with offensive upside, or a top 4 right handed defender with size. Since Chicago doesn’t have a quality middle 6 centre outside of Bedard, that’s off the table and leaves the defender.
I’d propose something like:
:blackhawks
Marner (no extension in place)
:mapleleafs
Jones
Reichel
Chicago’s own 2025 2nd round pick
I know you mentioned that you wouldn’t move the leadership group and Jones was part of that - but in order to get good players you’ve gotta move something that you don’t want sometimes and Jones makes a ton of sense for Toronto and fills a huge need. I’d argue that if Jones isn’t part of the deal then Toronto walks away from the deal and finds someone else Marner would waive for
Edit: I’d think that Chicago takes a hard look at a right handed defender in the draft and there’s a couple good ones available around their pick so it makes the loss of Jones easier for the future if they picked one

FTR..
Schneider in the 3 years prior to being traded:
30GP, 33GP, 25GP - 88 total GP
Demko in the last 3 years:
51GP, 32GP, 64GP - 147 total games played
So Demko plays almost double the amount of games. also tough to say Schneider was better at the time when he played behind a much better team defence at the time. But sure, believe what you want and only look at stats without taking into context the overall situation 🤷🏻♂️

Was Schneider a vezina finalist when he was traded? Nope. Don’t think so. Stats only get you so far - goaltending stats are heavily weighted by the team in front of them. Demko is a far better option than Schneider was.

I think Vancouver declines because they want to keep Demko. Not because the return is too small.
Maybe Mercer for Demko one-for-one. No goalie could could return Nemec.</div></div>
Name the last time a 28 year old, top 3 goalie got traded to a team that only needed a good goalie to be a much better calibre team.. you can’t.
Yea goalies historically haven’t returned much in a trade. But the situation that New Jersey is in combined with how good Demko is + his contract/age means you’d pay more - likely a price fans wouldn’t be comfortable with.
Mercer + prospect + pick for Demko.
Nemec + pick + younger roster player with not as much upside for Demko.

You’re asking for 2 years of a top 3 goalie on a cheap contract and THAT’S all you’re offering? Come on..
With Vancouver’s current needs, if Demko was dealt (highly unlikely right now), I can’t see any deal happening without starting with Mercer or Nemec. But this ain’t it.

Large Marner Deal
Not terrible for a Marner deal - I’d think they might prefer Borgen over Larsson though since he’s younger and a similar player. & probably Wright over Sale for a more positional need at a prospect. Make the 1st top 5 or 10 protected and I think it’s closer of those changes are made
I’ve said and will likely post soon:
Seattle gets:
Marner
Toronto gets:
Wright
Borgen
Tanev (could be Gourde instead)
1st round pick (top 5 protected)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LAKANDTOR348</b></div><div>I agree with this and your 1st comment on this. This whole narrative that plays don't waive there NTC or NMC is ridiculous bc it literally happens EVERY YEAR. With picks upcoming etc with a crap ton of cap</div></div>
Marner to Nashville isn’t a bad idea, but that deal likely doesn’t happen for various reasons.
1. Preds need centres more than wingers
2. Saros has not been good this year and likely asks for too much on a contract due to his previous seasons
3. Saros isn’t the type of goalie Treliving likes - he only likes bigger goalies. Anything shorter than 6’2” isn’t a guy he likes so I can’t see him trading for one under 6’

There will be changes to the team, likely big ones. NMC ‘a aren’t impossible to work with, it takes a man to man conversation with the player but generally when a player realizes that they aren’t wanted on a team it’s pretty easy to make a deal work. 1 of the core 4 is likely gone, all signs point to Marner. I’d be shocked if they “ran it back”. 9 years and no results is a whole other level of insanity.
Changes are coming barring a cup finals appearance.

Dallas doesn’t have anything to get Marner. Unless they’re willing to trade 1 of Oettinger, Heiskanen, Hintz, Johnston, or Robertson there is no deal.
There’s other teams that live in tax free states that could use Marner and offer better… Seattle screams a perfect fit for Mitch

Would honestly love Mason Appleton in Toronto and I think he’s a great fit and that’s an incredibly low price for him - I’d be shocked if he didn’t at least return a 2nd round pick. But that being said, unless Winnipeg is either retaining on him (unlikely) or taking a contract back, Toronto will have to use their cap space to address other areas before a 3RW is added but admittedly I’d add Appleton then worry bout moving someone after

Actually Marner did play centre in his last 2 years in junior. He rotated with Dvorak - as a long time season ticket holder of the Knights I literally watched him play centre.
& no. Nylander came up as a winger and has always been a winger. He has not had any continued length of time at centre in the NHL. He was tried at points but barely lasted that long. If you’re only classifying a guy as a centre based on how many faceoffs he’s taken, you might wanna double check that.

Then it will clearly show he only cares about money and nothing about winning so good luck to him playing for bottom feeders after Toronto.
The contract comp to nylander is terrible everyone knows nylander is overpaid. Nylander is worth 10 max maybe 10.5 if he was to play full time Center and excel in that spot.
But with that nylanders ability to play Center will give him and advantage on contract negotiations, Goals also pay so nylander being a much stronger goal scorer also adds up.
You can argue marners selke level defence but all that **** disappears in playoffs anyways.
I’m a bruins fan I’ve got my fair share of seeing leaf’s play and over our last few playoff runs against each other I can easily say that
Nylander/ Kadri/ Hyman/ Connor brown/ Kapanen / Johnsson/ all had played a much better all-around game then Marner did most those series</div></div>
You can argue whether or not Nylander is overpaid all you want - that doesn’t matter now. He’s paid that and that’s the comparable out there & Marner has always been better than Nylander so it’s a baseline his agent will use.
Also you saying “Nylander has the ability to play centre” as an advantage is quite hysterical. Just be cause a guy “can” play centre, doesn’t mean anything. Marner played centre in junior too, Nylander hasn’t played centre consistently at all in the NHL and when they said they were gonna give him a long look at the position this season, it literally lasted less than 2 games - his “ability to play centre” means absolute dog$hit nothing.
Marner is worth more than Nylander, substantially more. Whether or not you like it doesn’t matter.
