one mroe thing..i think Duclair would be a mistake. I understand its scary because of JH dip, but just because he ahs played with him with success doesnt mean there isnt somehting similar but better. Here is the thing, its good that there is a coaching change, needed to happen, but dont forget Calgary had tonnes of structure last year (analytically ere good) and they will lose that. WHich is fine, if you lose it as a ocahc though, you have to gain it in just the general player IQ. Duclair is fast. but also his play is erratic, coming off an injury, he does not look good right now despite the team playing great, and even when he was beside JH, he wasnt necessarily good as much as benifited from a happy JH. Because of how JH was, we are thinking Duclair made him, but lets not foget who the actual star is here, i think a happy JH can make a different player look even better is all. IMO.

And good call on Dube, TOR has always been interested in Dube. but also if Dubas not back then anyone they were interested in before doesnt really matter.

Heres the thing was going on, and I agree that I was a homer on both deals, but I do think they can be worked around because I believe both those players for the right price are available. The reasons for the FLA one, is there does seem to be some people sayinf that Ekbladès play has not been up to par, even though i disagree. That being said its all really related to the rise of Montour who has essentially taken his place. It makes sense for Calgary to overpay because the Weegar/Ekblad reunion is worth it. period. Now FLA does not need to trade nayone as thier cap looks good, but they may take the deal witht he success of calgary grittier 2 way forwards that they have had. Nylander is gone from TML next year and they always like Hanafin and your right..due to Hanafin's position and cap hit the levereg is with calgary but not by much. The first was excessive ill admit hahaha.

What am I Missing With Phillips
Your 100% right. The in thing is to hate on Darryl right now, which is hilarious because thats not even his part of his job, with the exception of Treliving obviously valuing his coaches input, which is standard everywhere except in Vancouver lol. Wranglers are doing well, but this rhetoric that Phillips is going to be a saviour because he is doing very well at the AHL level is beyod me. Don't get me wrong, he could be a good player, but he is not special to anyone else but us, he is part of a pretty standard group of players that dominate the level below....these people seem to be talking themselves into the idea that the AHL and NHL are a lateral move...may not say it word for word, but don't kid yourselves, they are slowly convincing themselves of this. It is too bad, because I am actually int he camp that they should give him a shot, but the unrealistic rhettoric that is starting to surround him, including fans pittibg player vs. coach, is not setting his debut this year up fro much success if there is one and doing more harm than good.
ALso, this we need a younger 4th line is again an argument that I can emapthize with, but then somewhere people started saying their opinion so much, that they started to believe their opinion was science. Or the idea that if you get rid of Daryll then all of the sudden Phillips would get a chance and be great when they don't realize the next coach and GM would be no different, then they can hate on that guy until he gets fired, and then we can keep doing this (does it sound familiar!?) haha. Listen, it takes a few years to fully fully grasp a coaches system, well, a year ad a bit to grasp it and another year to play freely within it. The point is its not a coincidence that the longest tenured coaches are generally the most successful, including the last 3 years. Helm, Cogliano as well were on thier 4th line and they looked good, and aren;t AHL call ups, and COlorado did okay with the older energy line and long tenured coach.

Timo Year 1
hahah all great points, and honestly all are potentially right. Mangiapane could be an outlier year last year, but he has enough attributes without scoring that show that there is a chance that gis could be just as much an outlier year as he has progressed every year. Again, I am not saying is IS or ISN'T, I'm saying because there is a debate, it obviously can possibly be either way, which you can't argue. That being said, Tarasenko is a rental, so Mangiapane is more than fair for him. If Mangiapane was a sure thing, you obviously wouldn't get him on a 3 year contract for a UFA. hence the trade being relatively fair, whether it is liked or not. But from a bias flames fan, even though I did this, I wouldn't trade that I don't think for Tarasenko, so moot point.

SJ - CAL who says no
yeah that's franchise player return right there, Timo isn't a franchise player, very very good though. . Plus, I think if there is a redraft you find Coronato ends up going in a far more valuable spot. I also think San Jose is pretty committed to moving him so I think it is far more than the flames would hahe to give up, and definitely far more than they would be willing. Plus there will be an issue dealing with Salaries next year. Isn't his QA $10M? Could be wrong. Not sure if SJ goes for it, but I wouldn't do more than Dube, 1st 2024, Prospect that is not Wolf, Zary, Porier or Coronoto (4 with highest ceiling). Prefer not Pelletier, but would understand if it was.

the point isn't what he would sell for, the point is whether it s a good fit. Not hard to change a 2nd to a 1st for the purpose of the thought process. Fait yo say, Tarasenko likely to get dealt, Flames looking for T9/T6 player. So I don't think its crazy to think a deal could get done. (Could not WILL) So whatever that deal looks like it could get done, and will likely get done at less than most think because he been shopped allot for last year, he's asked for a trade, and is an expiring contract, so regardless he is probably getting dealt if STL continues to struggle. Its also well reported that Calgary already said they had no interest in him as well, but did they turn down the trade because they are not interested in VT, or just because FLA was that much better? nobody actually knows. haha. I wouldn't move Coranto or Wolf. I think Coranoto is the eventual answer to CGY pure scorer issue. haha. Also, Tarsenko would have submitted his list for NMC already, usually around July 1st, no? because there was a deal on the table already, I assumed that CGY was not on is no trade list. Players only have to waive if they are trying to get sent to a place on thier no trade list, or if it is a full NMC (not sure of the details, but 100% NMC very rare).

Timo Time In Calgary
I think allot of people don't understand how delicate dressing dynamics work. 82.5M is the same salary cap for everybody. The difference is how many people you have outplaying or underplaying their contracts. I get trading Lucic from a numbers point of view or if this is NHL23, but as long as you account for shaving off a percentage of production from everybody else in the line up once you loose leadership, like Lucic. Just be very careful who your willing to throw away for an EA Sports style upgrade. We have all seen many many rosters which get "more" talent, yet less performance. Also have to keep in mind, that he is very likely to sign after this contract for a team friendly deal. One of the few guys I have heard of to waive their NMC as well for betterment of the team on an expansion draft. Believe me, I completely understand he is overpaid. I would just be very careful before I remove that leg from the table.

Poor asset management is taking away what your the best at to make it mediocre. This is arguable asset management at worse. Although I do not agree with this approach I feel inclined to defend the asset management hit. JC is locked up for 3 years at great value. If its just credits and debits we are talking about (objective asset management), i think it probably actually passes that quite well. Too many fans feel that asset management is about balancing everything out. Essentially becoming average at everything. You have to admit, that is where the tendency goes? Even though, I do agree that I do not think this trade is necessary and valid counter points are definitely given, I love the idea and confidence of doubling down and taking a stance and an unarguable clear IDENTITY. Personally I think they should keep their D as is, don't need to add, but by no means lets not make it not the best D corps in the league.

First, anybody who just has the argument, with no why, that "X team will not ever trade Y player", is missing the point of this site. I think it is fair assumption that the author knows this and is based on IF both teams are willing to trade the mentioned players, what the deal would look like. Its ok to bash the value of trades haha, but just saying "we are never giving up this player" means your missing the point.. haha. As a flames fan, I look at it and I say hell no, but then I think of it from the Bruins POV and think, thats a tough pill too....that tells me its probably a fair deal.....assuming both teams would be willing to move assets haha.

What Would The Market for Hanifin Be
KingofRnR and Lede_And_Dairy are 100% right. Regardless of what fans would do. we understand the Leafs would like to just HAVE hanafin. Here is what we know, TML does want Hanafin, and they have reportedly kicked tires on Dube in the past. A couplet hinges come to mind with that. 1) As it is now, they have to already make room if they want to sign Sandin, bringing in what could arguably be thier top D man, they would have to move one out. I think we all agree there. Two things, if they are interested in winger that makes 2.3M, with thier cap situation and bringing in a D man, it is obvious that Dube would act as a replacement (even not a full one) for someone, that would have to make allot more for the buck. So I thin you would be looking at a Hanafin+Dube for a T6+D Man. IF a trade would happen, and I mean IF, because Flames would not move a young top end D for fun and would only be for a proven T6 and would also have to act as helping TML with salary problems.....the only way a deal I think would happen would be a Nylander+Sandin,Liligren or even very fun dark horse, Giordano. Again, we are in GM mode with Salary Caps on, lol. So TML may feel like they are overpaying, but it is a pretty fair deal, add the fact that Calgary is taking on about 2M more in salary, that counts as an asset right now which we are forgetting. Every dollar that the salary exchange goes in one way or the other, affects the leverage for the deal.

Pushing The Chips All-In
First, all things being equal I MAY chose JC over NH, and honestly probably because the extra contract length, not even player for player. That being said, the fact they are even remotely close (and by all accounts both fans and hockey experts call them pretty much a coin flip), this would be a tremendous overpay for Calgary. If Calgary wanted JC, they would be better serves movinf NH elsewhere to get a 3-4 asset package, and then using that packed to then acquire JC; thus, saving giving up at least one of the firsts and Coronato. IMO Coronoto will be NHL next season. He is close to being ready, has a unique shot that can translate immediately, and will cost the flames 925K for three years. He is essential for even making the cap work the next few years if they want to make some other contracts work.

Oh I would take Liljegren over Sandin in a heart beat. I didn't put him on there because I like him more, Liljegren's analytics are pretty strong and would be much more Sutter-ready for sure. The thing is the Leafs probably feel the same way about him judging as he was apriority to sign, and I think getting Sandin is much more realistic. But yes, I agree fully would rather have Liljegren for sure, but I think that would be too wishful thinking.
On Dube, we kind of undervalue him. You look at allot over this approx $4M players on the tradewire, and his production in a limited role and fanfare is very similar. I wouldn't underestimate TOR's desire for payers that overperform thier contract, regardless of what it is.

I dont think you are understanding. IF they are trying to move out Krug and or Scandella (and Tarasenko) which is widely reported despite a "non-rebuilding team", then they are going to need more cost effective D men to replace them, (this is all IF) hence I think actually Kylington would be a non starter from there end to leave in. Zary is only a few years off, and if you really don't want to rebuild, then that's fine, we will just keep our 1st, and gladly take yours too since you wont need it. You say your not looking to rebuild on one reply, and the other you say you don't want the only established NHL player in there. Nobody is giving a core piece for a UFA forward at 7.5M in todays cap space. I understand you would like more, but just not gonna get it.

That would be a hard no from CGY. I know I wouldnt do a 1 for 1 for wolf. Very real potential franchise tender for a long time. Pellitier is realistically a long time T6, T9 at least and maybe him and 1st, but that may be a tough sell for a 7.5M winger who is UFA. Its just not the market for that right now. Young guys with either term of control at least (RFA) are the currency right now. Unfortunate, because VT is a great player, and by no means not saying he is not worth it, but i think the deal would lie somehere between this deal, and the other one beside this one which undervalues him i think.

for a 7.5M player who is a UFA next year in a cap crunch, you wont get more for him than that. if you got that, id seriously consider it if i were with the blues. or maybe asking more of a quality vs. quantity. SO i could see what your saying, maybe just 2 pieces, but better pieces.
