Trouba Kakko Kravtsov now need Panarin lol
There are very few teams that need Shattenkirk less than Carolina. They are loaded on defense already.
So even if he's just a cap dump for the Rangers that's not the right trade partner

What Would An Ehlers To Calgary Trade Look Like
Jets would be all over that. Ehlers is not worth that much. Young 25 goal per year winger is awesome, but not worth 4 good pieces
Take out at least 2 pieces on the flames side. Maybe Brodie and a 2nd round pick ?

Congrats on Trouba, that's a very good piece to build around. The tricky part of being an AGM is staying below the salary cap, and at $87M you're well over.
Time to make some choices, can't keep everybody. Personally, I think the NYR rebuild is going along nicely, they should stick to the plan and be patient. In a few years Fox, Kaako, Kravtsov might be serious contributors and you could grab a top center in free agency to help the rebuild along.

Hard to imagine that both Brodie and Hamonic would be shipped out this summer. Hopefully just one of the two. JT Miller is an interesting idea, there might be a trade partner in Tampa.

Retrospective Was the Muzzin Deal Worth It
Muzzin is exactly what the Leafs needed for the next couple of years. Solid and experienced defense in the top 4. Their window to succeed in the playoffs does not last forever - and the 2019 first rounder and Durzi would at best make a difference at the NHL level in 2-3 years from now. Toronto has a serious flaw on defensive side of the puck, and whether you love him or hate him, Gardiner walking away as UFA this summer does not help that.
Could Durzi have been be a solid top 4 by 2022 or 2023 season ? Maybe so but that's too long to wait when the Leafs have already entered their window for success. A guy with Muzzin's ability and experience is worth paying a little extra for to help a young team get over the hump.
With a couple of bounces in their direction (or even a 3 game suspension for Kadri instead of 5) the Leafs could easily have had a long run this year and potentially be in the final right now. They need to bring in the pieces to bring success in the next 2-4 years, rather than hoping 18-19 years olds drafted late in the first round or deeper will magically make the jump and be impact players in the NHL before they turn 20. That's a very rare accomplishment for any player drafted outside the top 10.

LD - Backup G - Duchene
Don't think Calgary can make any deal for Brodie where they don't gain some cap space. Tatar + Leks costs about $7M next year, Brodie is $4.6. The Flames are probably not aiming that high, a prospect and some picks might do it.

Habs and Flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Poehling</b></div><div>Kylington have a good potential. Frolik is useless, maybe Kylington vs Fleury & a 3rd round pick</div></div>
I was thinking basically that - Kylington for Fleury plus 3rd. The question is whether one year of Frolik is worth a 2nd round pick. Habs could turn around and move him again at the 2020 trade deadline. He's still a useful player.
Kylington has good upside, pretty good smart 2-way D-man and could run a power play. He's too good for the AHL at this point. The only reason he's not higher up the depth chart in Calgary is because they are stacked on defense. And unfortunately the other two young guys in Calgary (Valimaki and Andersson) are now most likely untouchable.

What s the plan reset 2
The Flames main motivation for moving TJ Brodie will likely be to drop salary so they can re-sign guys Matt Tkachuk. Even though Shaw might help them, they are not changing their cap situation by bringing him in. I think they will be looking for younger and cheaper assets in exchange for Brodie. Maybe Lekhonen, a prospect and a draft pick

This wouldn't be a good old fashioned rebuild it would be something unlike the NHL has ever seen. You'll probably be picking in the top 3 for 2-3 years in a row.
Interesting concept for sure. it would be fun to watch. By the way you have to make Tampa, Toronto and Ottawa pay something for their cap dumps. Especially Tampa and Toronto no favours for them....Maybe take it easy on Ottawa

My take
I like the ideas, and Lavoie as the draft pick is a good choice if he's available at 15.
Klefbom would likely have a much bigger impact on the success of this team than Drouin over the next 5 years, even if JD evolves to be a 30 goal scorer. Adding a UFA like Duchene compensates for any lost scoring from Drouin in any case.
Strength down the middle, on top 4 defense and in net is the key to success in this league. And these moves go in that direction. If we need to add scoring on the wings at some point 2-3 years down the road that's the easiest gap to fill with free agents or trades.

Yup. That's a significant draft jump going from #15 to #7-8. Habs would seriously consider it depending who is still available at that draft spot.
Sekera is a better rounded player than Russell, and only 1 year difference in age.

You're probably right. I added an extra piece to each trade, does that look closer to reality ?
The idea with Calgary is that they will not want any roster player with significant salary back. They need all that cash to sign RFA's this summer.

I added a good roster player (Lekhonen) to the Columbus trade. Doesn't score a lot but excellent defensive forward, Tortorella will love him. Does that seem closer?

Another version of that EDM trade
I don't think you'd have to take back the Lucic contract to make this work. Combined value of the 2019 #15 pick plus 2017 #13 pick (Suzuki) plus potential 5-6 pair defenseman (Fleury) is worth about the same as the #2 or #3 overall pick.
Overall depends how Edmonton scouts value the various pieces compared to the potential of Kaako or whoever they would pick in that spot.
If Edmonton does not win a lottery spot and is picking at between #7 to #9 instead, which is more likely, I think the only guy who could trigger this type of trade for Montreal would be Bowen Byram. But he may already be gone by #7

What do you think is fair? Remember this is essentially for 1 year of TJ Brodie. Calgary will likely not want any significant salary coming back.
I added some extra pieces: Brodie + 4th for Ylonen + Fleury + Deslauriers + 2nd.
Same for Columbus: Nutivara + 4th for Lekhonen + Juulsen + Hudon + 3rd
Still think it's way off ? Calgary will not want roster players with any salary back.

Habs Flyers Jets 3 way
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Imo MTL gets too much. Danault's pretty good middle-6 C, Juulsen's a question mark with the eye injury and hasn't really proven himself in the NHL... These two assets in my opinion are not equal to Gostisbehere, who has proven that he can be a 60 point+ elite offensive D (which btw is more than any current MTL forward has been able to score except Domi this year) plus a 2nd rounder. Perreault is decent enough 3rd line winger for a team with cap space... Kulikov's a cap dump, but he only has one year left...this benefit MTL too much imo.</div></div>
I think there's a lot of value there for Winnipeg. i'm assuming Juulsen will fully recover and be a good second pair defensive RD going forward, to help fill the gap from Trouba. Danault obviously fills a hole for the Jets at reasonable cost. And the cap space has huge value for Winnipeg over the next couple of years to retain their young core.
Montreal is actually paying a pretty steep price for a D-man who is really not a 2-way defender
What do you think for the Haula trade? Too much to expect for Petry ??

I guess it's a question of who might be available - Provorov would likely not be available under any circumstances. Gostisbere would likely have a trade market price that Philly could live with, and a package with Trouba would be hard to resist. Ghost would fill a role Montreal needs to fill. Not a great 2-way defender, but they need a puck mover with some experience on the left side.
The down side for Montreal is that young centres have less protection from tough assignments for the next few years.

Brodie - Drouin
I've got a feeling that Drouin is not going to be Bill Peters' type of player...so it might not be a good fit
But there's a good chance Brodie might be available this summer. Flames are loaded with young NHL-ready talent on defense, ready to support Giordano-Hamonic-Hanifin. Brodie might be the odd man out and he goes UFA in summer 2020
Also I think that's too high of a return for Drouin. He's starting to look like a flashy, inconsistent 50 point ceiling guy. Certainly useful but flawed

A more than possible scenario
I don't think it's possible for Montreal's draft pick to be in the top 10, unless they win a lottery spot and get into the top 3. That would be sweet.
If they miss the playoffs they will almost certainly be picking in 13-14-15 slot. Maybe Kaliyev, Suzuki or Lavoie is available there. Unfortunately Byram will be long gone by then, probably to Vancouver in top 5.
I like the Petry trade although Florida would probably not give up that much for him.

Young Guns
Don't get me wrong - I like Colin White but I don't think that one full NHL season and 15 or so goals this year is going to get him a $42 million dollar contract.
I really hope these young guys can put on an entertaining show next year and win some games. Somewhere down the road they'll be competitive again. But ultimately they need another top 3 pick next year. Maybe they'll get lucky and Lafreniere will drop in their lap. Building around Brannstrom-Chabot-Lafreniere-Tkachuk is a pretty nice restart for any franchise.

Bruins Draftees
Nice job on this group of ACGM's it's basically a good way of visualizing how effective each team's amateur scouting and player development has been over the past 10-15 years. This group of Bruins picks clearly shows they were pretty good at it over the long term, especially for forwards.
Can't say the same for the GM and pro scouting, they gave away some great players for marginal return. Thornton will hurt for a long time
But clearly better than most of the other teams listed for amateur scouting picks
