If Calgary doesn't make it to the playoffs, you might as well do these trades.

Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm are both rentals respectively in New jersey and Colorado, No way are you getting those kind of returns from either team.

PIT needed the cap space, and he was bouncing between 2D, 3D and the is box the year before he was traded. Glad he is doing well, but that was hardly a "fleecing"

Poirier is not playing tonight with the wranglers. Got hurt yesterday, status is unknown. But I think Solovyov is the first call up from defence. But we don’t have any cap space to call someone up would have to send osterle down. In the future I can see Poirier getting called up because he brings speed and offence they’d definitely play him with tanev

I really hope Solovyov just basically ends up turning into Tanev V2. Would be crazy good value for where he was picked.

Hani to NJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Augustus</b></div><div>It all depends on what other offers come in, if Hanifin does force Conroy's hand..
Right now, Hanifin is vital to Calgary's game with his breakouts, passing, general offensive D-man stuff.. Bahl would bring a small fraction of that, at least now. It would mean defeat for the Flames this year unless they replaced what he brings with someone else.</div></div>
Plus, Hanifin's re-sign price might be too steep for New Jersey, he would possibly be a rental.. what were you envisioning there?

Bahl has been playing on the second pair, and Bastian has high end defensive impact.

No thanks, Devils need a RHD. Devils losing to much size after all last season ppl saying they are too small and not physical. PS move on from the same ole trades. We gotta stop being inlove with Hanifin to NJ

I'd rather have Vladar over MAF and there's no point in giving a 2nd RD Pick away for a soon to be 39 year old Goalie who'll almost certainly retire after this season
Besides MAF has a Full NMC

hanifin finally out of calgary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>I’m higher on the need for a guy like Liljegren than Knies or Minten personally. I’d even take Jarnkrok back in the deal for Liljegren
Knies is interesting, but I don’t see the need for Minten whatsoever. Abruzzese is a guy worth considering given his link to Coronato</div></div>
I'll take the bigger better Minten over Arbruzzi. Calgary needs more forwards in the system with some size not more little guys. Both Knies and Minten are NHL ready now too while Arbruzzi isn't even close and may never be. Trading Hanifin for Minten + Knies would also free up a nice chunk of cap space.
Lilly is ok but he's nothing special just another 3rd pair D. In Calgary he'd be the 4th RD behind Andersson Weegar and Tanev. If we trade Tanev picking Lilly up to replace him would make sense. I think the team will extend Tanev if he agrees to a 2 year contract for less than he makes now. I don't think they should extend him just that they will try to.

Agree the trade does not make sense for the Flames but Brannstrom is not a bust. Not what everyone was hjoping for but a quality third pair dman who can PK and play 2PP in a pinch.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Real_MC_Hockey</b></div><div>Again I DO hope you are right. The problem is if Cgy is in or near playoffs at trade deadline, they will want to keep him and then still maybe lose him for nothing at the end of year. That’s what Conroy and Fans want to avoid.</div></div>
Oh I see what you're saying. If Calgary is in the playoff mix, do you trade or keep Hanifin? Especially after losing Gaudreau for nothing. That's a tough spot to be in. 🤔

I think Conroy would get quite a few Hanifin offers at the trade deadline. Any playoff contender would love to add him to their lineup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Real_MC_Hockey</b></div><div>Well as a Flames fan, I know a bit more about the local team and Conroy apprenticed a long time and is very well-liked so he won’t be leaving even with 1-2 big blunders, also because the owner is too cheap to get an experienced and accomplished GM. Anyways, my trade could work with perhaps the 2nd becoming a first but you and I don’t really know how good or bad that McIssac is in reality. Sometimes a new organization makes a player blossom.</div></div>
McIsaac definitely needs a new start somewhere. But I'm afraid he's no longer a prospect but a suspect. It's unfortunate he had so many injuries earlier in his career.
He was a Kenny Holland draft pick and Detroit was high on him IIRC. I won't argue that you know more about the Flames than I do. You see every game.
But what I do know is that's not nearly enough of a return for Hanifin and Yzerman would take that deal and run. Conroy would be the laughingstock of the NHL and be axed immediately.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Real_MC_Hockey</b></div><div>I really do hope you are correct but it may not happen and “asset management “ is what Conroy talked about at his first press conference meaning don’t lose him for nothing like what happened with Johnny Hockey. EDIT: Also McIsaac is only 23 so can improve and make NHL, was a 2nd round draft choice, and is also Canadian so checks a lot or boxes there for Calgary and asset management.</div></div>
McIsaac doesn't have 2nd round pick value anymore. He hasn't for years now. It's like Zadina. He was drafted 6th overall. But he no longer has that value. Far from it.
I understand not wanting to lose Hanifin for nothing like the 🌲 did with Gaudreau. But Conroy can't be giving away his best players for pennies on the dollar either.
Or else he'll no longer be Flames GM.
