Hmm. The manually tracked stats are starting to come in. Some of you may remember that for a few years now ive been on about how we are a cycle based team that is mostly unable to transition to a rush based team when we need to. A skill that the Tampa teams of the past were very good at.

Like I will leave it with this imagine your the new CEO of MLSE, you call Shanahan in and go okay so the Matthews era or Shanaplan has resulted in 1 playoff series win what seems to be the issue. Well sir we recently cant seem to score more than 2 goals in 9 of our last 10 playoff games. So okay we cant score more than 2 goals but we are paying 4 FORWARDS a total of $46.65m or slightly more than 50% of this teams cap combined
Thats correct sir.

Sandy and Lily are currently the same age. Pay attention.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeclanLovesHockey</b></div><div>Yeah he plays top 4 mins on a team that uses Ilya Lyubushkin as a top pairing defenseman... Where he plays in the lineup is irrelevant, the fact of the matter is he just isn't as good as we need a top 4 dman to be on this team and he's not gonna magically improve into one. This is coming from a guy who likes Lilly and wishes we could sign him to a 4 x 2.5 AAV. His skillset is a dime a dozen: pretty good offensively, ok defensively, not that physical. Only thing that is valuable is his right shot.</div></div>
Boosh is not being played as a top pair D lmao. That you even think that shows you have no idea what you're talking about

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeclanLovesHockey</b></div><div>The problem is that Liljegren is in no mans land between a good third pairing dman and a mediocre second pairing dman. I don't see his ceiling being much higher than that. The Leafs can't afford to pay him second pair money when he's giving us third pair results. The 2nds can be used to make a cost-effective TDL move or draft talent like Knies, who becomes cap-controlled on an ELC. To use your metaphor, we would have to overpay for a leaky boat when we could jump ship and swim a short distance to several sturdier, cheaper boats.</div></div>
The dude is keefes most played D when we are trying to hold a lead, and also while were trailing. He also has been putting up strong results.
I think the issue here is just that your eval is off lmao

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GuyGuyGuy</b></div><div>There’s one huge reason, age. Liljegren is 25 while Sandin was 22. Both are pretty much the same talent, but Sandin can actually develop in something more. Liljegren won’t improve unless there’s a massive surprise. The best trade comp is Siegenthaler to New Jersey for a third, so Toronto would be lucky to get a late second for him</div></div>
Theyre like the same age lmao.
And Lily is actually playing top 4 mins. While sandy at the trade was only a 3rd pair D

And more importantly, why wouldn't we just make that swap directly? Either in a 2 or 3 team deal?
It simply doesn't make sense. We need a boat. We have a boat and you're offering the mystery box

This Liljegren trade is a prime example of people undervaluing players just because they're Leafs.
How does he get LESS than Sandin did? Even if you think they're about equal talent wise, being a puck moving RHD should increase his value over what Sandy got (28th overall pick)
