Corsi Style Rebuild
Maybe Montreal doesn't do that exact trade, but Bowman and Bergevin seem to be buddies so a deal could be worked out if Stan wanted to trade Toews. Plus Bergevin owes him one for trading Danault in the first place, hah.
As far Tuch goes in the Vegas trade, for all his hype and skills which flash on ice plus his reasonable contract (Stan loves cost certainty), he's 23 with 3 full NHL seasons now. He seems to be about a half point per game player and reached 20 goals once. His relative Corsi and Fenwick were negative last season, and his PDO was sub 100 despite a 60% offensive zone start. These numbers aren't the be all/end all except I'd rather see better numbers without watching a lot of VGK games other than the playoff series. I do like Tuch too and he had some great shifts against the Blackhawks that are fresh in my mind. If the Blackhawks were trading Kane, there's a chance that this is who Tuch is, a half point per game player for whom production doesn't quite meet skills/expectations. He could also blow up for 35 goals next season so there is a risk/reward to his value for me

Hawks Older Piece Value
Good attempts at trading these players. In reality of course, trading $10M cap hits for players in their 30's is impossible. Kane is still a top 10 forward. The trouble is a team trading for him would likely view him as a finishing piece to put them over the top, in which case they wouldn't have room for him. Toews is still good, but not $10M good. I've seen other posts where the Blackhawks retain salary on both.

I wish someone would offer sheet Tampa
I agree, I think it's insane if the other teams let TBL keep all of their 3 RFA's. I do wonder if the players have already received one or more offer sheets and are holding out hope TBL can move Tyler Johnson and/or Palat. Again though, if I'm an opposing GM, for $5M per season would I rather have Johnson for his early 30's or Sergachev for what should be the early part of his prime years?

Palat
Tampa Bay does need to move a contract or two out, perhaps Palat could be talked into waiving his NTC. TB is lucky no one has given an offer sheet to either Cirelli, Sergachev or Cernak. With only 2.8M in cap space and all three RFA's, they're very vulnerable to losing one or two of them to an offer sheet.
If Nate Schmidt was a 3rd, I think Palat and Johnson could be had for not much in return as well. Is Barratt and a 3rd enough? Maybe.

I like the signing. Hoffman supposedly is considering a short term deal like Hall. I'm sure they could let him know there could be a TDL deal if Blackhawks out of contention. Or a long term deal if it all works out.

Wouldnt this be such a STAN thing to do
We all know Stan loves himself some former Blackhawks players. Though I wonder if it's too soon to bring back Schmaltz since he's not past his prime yet (LOL).
I like the idea of the trade. It's an interesting idea and AZ does need to move some salary.

some kaner trades bc this team is fkd
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>like every team there laughs at these.
No one is giving up a young star player for a 32 year old player at 10 million per.
This is the problem with aging stars.
The value to the team they are on is high. Which is why fans would want the world for say Crosby.
But the reality to it is no team is giving that up. Because their future star players are worth more to them than a 32 year old ending his career.
Just look at the Karlsson trade. I think that's a great example. They got picks and some scraps
A deal from the penguins would probably look more like POJ and a 1st.
And the rest of the teams probably following suit.
Remember Karlsson was much younger than Kane.</div></div>
Erik Karlsson is only two years younger than Kane, technically about 1.5 years, and I believe he was on the last year of his contract when traded by Ottawa. He needed a new contract. It's not a great comparison.
In general I agree it'd be tough to trade Kane. Zero chance of recouping his value as it'd tough for the other team to trade a combo of NHL players, prospects, picks and take on a 10M cap hit with a flat cap. I don't really see why the Blackhawks would trade him unless they don't think they'll have any fans for two years anyway.
That said, Kane isn't really declining much yet. I do agree he will one day, but he was still 9th in points last year even with a mix of line mates and Debrincat's shooting % dropping. It's not like he played on a stacked line most shifts. He's still great and drives possession. And as someone else pointed out, he's signed for only 3 more seasons, not 7 or 8.

I think Wallmark is the 3rd line center, so Strome gets moved. Although, Toews-Dach-Strome-Wallmark isn't a terrible look down the middle.

I don't think Carpenter or Smith necessarily force Strome to be traded, but I agree Bowman is at least listening to offers if not shopping him. I think they should keep him on a 2-3 year deal. Is it out of the realm of logic that in 2 seasons Toews is the unofficial 3rd line C with Dach/Strome as the 1-2?

Realistic Look at Next Year
We'll see how it plays out. I'll be pissed if it turns out Crow was willing to sign 2 years at like $3M and Bowman wouldn't go above 2.5M. I'll be fine with it if Crow wouldn't go below $5M and the Blackhawks wanted to make other moves like trade Strome, sign Wallmark or Jankowski, Kahun?
I get (almost) all goalies were at one time AHL'rs and rookies, but with the shots against on this team last year, even a .910 sv % isn't going to win a lot of games.
Good luck to Crow, it was a great 13 seasons!

I thought for sure Bowman was taking Lapierre at 17. It would have fit his MO, possible top 10 pick buzz a year ago, injured so his numbers slipped and his draft stock as well. I hadn't heard much about Reichel before the draft but like the rest he's got some great highlight plays.

Debyebye
Lightning would prefer clearing cap space to sign Cirelli, Cernak and Sergachev rather than take on a 6M hit liek Debricat's. From the posts I see TB fans are willing to part with Johnson, Gourde, and Killorn. I wonder if there's a package deal to made, Johnson/Sergachev or Cernak RFA rights for Strome and+? I'm not really good at trade values.
One can always try to get Sergachev with an offer sheet of 4x6M, TBL has a hard time matching it because they need to move salary out but they might-and it lowers the price on their NTC players. I also think he gets about a 4 yr deal, then he gets a bite of the UFA apple at about age 26 right when the cap should be rising.

This is likely very similar to what they do in reality. Sign Strome & Kubliak to 3 yr deals where they hit UFA when the cap starts to rise again, sign Crow to a 2 year deal...buyout Zack Smith or trade for low pick, and trade players such as Kurashev and or Kampf for a player to shuffle the bottom 6 a bit.

You don't think Buffalo would want De Haan to mentor the younger D on rehabbing from shoulder injuries if they should get one? He's an experienced veteran at that.
Kidding aside, De Haan is good when healthy and obviously that when healthy caveat is what has fans and probably other GMs recoiling from trading for him.

Right? If I'm Bergevin, why not sign Cirelli to a 4x6M offer sheet? And if Tampa matches they'll have to trade Gourde or Johnson at a discount. TB also has Sergachev as an RFA too.

The 6x10 cap hit is too big for the Blackhawks to take on. Maybe Sabres, taking Hutton in return and offering a pick or prospect along with Bob & a little retained salary? Trades that are on some level a large cap dump/transfer can be rough overpays on paper.

Sadly have to shed salary
I'm not certain NJ wants to pay Johnson $5M for the next 4 seasons starting with his age 30 season, or the Kings pay Gourde 5.16M for the next 5. Both are good, half ppg players but for $5M on their slightly past prime years...I don't think the return will be second rd + player/prospect. Cap space is a premium this year, and I don't believe other GM's will answer the phone.."Yes, I'd be happy to take your $5M that you kind of don't want because you'd rather sign your good, younger RFA's. It makes sense for me to give up assets for them rather than ask about your RFA's."

what if tamps wins back to back cups
If TB does want to sign those players, yes they'll have to move out salary. As a Blackhawks fan, when a team wins the Cup and needs to move salary...teams typically aren't so generous in trades that amount to cap dumps for your team.
Does Philly reall want 6x6.75 for a 31 year old McDonough? I doubt it. Tyler Johnson at 30 at 4x5M coming off at about .5ppg season? Not so sure that's what teams are truly interested in that.
Congrats on the Cup win!

BIG Leafs trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>Yeah CHI adds. Only type of player I see Dubas trading Nylander for is likely a TOP4 D of the same age. with top pair ceiling. Not a 27 year old 2nd pair D, a 28 year old pending UFA and a relatively low pick.
By stretching a bit, it looks to me like TOR offering Kerfoot+Muzzin+2021 1st for Debrincat. Imo the value is close to equivalent - and that is not something CHI will ever take.</div></div>
I don't think Dubas would offer Kerfoot+Muzzin+2021 for Debrincat as it doesn't meet any of the team's needs. In a quick review of needs for Toronto, I see blue line help is needed, and that 77% penalty kill is a good way to never get out of the first round of the playoffs. The trade you suggested weakens the Leafs blue line and gives them a top 6 winger that doesn't kill penalties. It also doesn't really provide any net benefit to the Blackhawks as they already have enough 30+ yr old D and middle 6'rs in their mid-20's. It's fine if you're spit-balling in terms of value, but the basics of the Saad/Murphy for W Nylander is it improves the Leafs blue line and should help the PK, while staying fairly cap neutral with salary retained.

Purely hypothetical on Krug
If Q got his wish (and Keith waived his NMC), I think a trade there gets done.
Krug does get 7 years I'd think, and he's great. He's 29 now, so my Excel spreadsheet tells me he'd be 36 when a 7yr contract is up. History says in 4 years, wherever he signs, that team's fan base will be on here posting trade offers of a first round draft pick plus a prospect to offload the contract, and receiving LOL's and keep dreaming in the comment section.

Pietrangelo Comes to Chi-Town
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DiehardRedWingsFan58</b></div><div>Rangers decline, Hawks are trending down and Pietrangelo isn't wasting his time in Chi-Town.</div></div>
He's probably getting a 7 yr deal, but if the Blackhawks offered the best contract, he absolutely would play for the Blackhawks. In general, players play for money. That said, Seabs and Shaw are both likely not going to be eligible for LTIR at the start of the season, so there's no way they'll be able to sign Pietrangelo and stay under the cap as fun of a thought as it is.
Pietrangelo would sign with the Red Wings if they offered 7/10M and no other team did. Why? Wouldn't he want to go to a Cup contender next year? No, not if it's $70M versus $60M. Winning, trending, Cup odds, home town discount all take a back seat to contract amount and might come into play only if and when contract terms were similar.

Anaheim did trade Montour for a conditional 2019 pick (it did turn out to be a late first) + a prospect at the TDL with only 1 full season of term remaining at 3.375M. Years remaining under contract matters in trades. Granted not as much as talent but term/cap hit is a factor. As far as Guhle, 51st overall in 2015, was age 21 at the time of the trade...he might be offended at B prospect but based on games played he's a bottom pair D at best? Some D do take longer to develop.

Murphy to Toronto does make sense to me as Blackhawks fan. Singed for two more seasons at 3.85M, middle pair RHD. Improves their D which was an issue last season for them and there's a few holes due to free agency.
I see the Leafs window for a Cup is now, not in 3 years when the 15OA is going to actually contribute. I don't know that Leafs fans see it the same way and I don't how long they think their window is going to be open for (hint, it's not 6 years from now). I do get they probably haven't watched a lot of Murphy, so to them he might be just some bottom pair or 7th who's probably not as good as Dermott or whoever that's either an RFA or UFA. It's my only two thoughts on why they seem offended at the thought of improving their D at a very reasonable cap hit of $3.8M and the cost of a 15OA pick that in all likelihood will not help their current core win the Cup.

Offer Sheet Heiskanen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksince71</b></div><div>Heiskanen still has a year remaining on his ELC, so this offer sheet can’t happen until after the 20-21 season. Heiskanen is the franchise in Dallas now & future. Teams simply match the offer sheet. Happen when the Hurricanes offered Fedorov a contract. Detroit matched it. Same when the Flames made an offer sheet to O’Reilly. Colorado matched it</div></div>
I mean, the Federov offer sheet was back in 1998, pre-cap. Not sure that one should count. I looked up the O'Reilly offer sheet because I couldn't remember the term, it was only 2 years and was back when teams could still offer "bridge" type of deals to RFA's and they'd sign them. Plus, I don't remember the Avs being a cap-strapped team at the time, but I could be wrong. The Aho offer was a little low.
We're looking at a small sample size when looking at offer sheets, to say the least. It doesn't seem as though GM's are overly strategic when making them so far. We're now at a flat cap and top RFA's are seemingly less willing to get a bridge type of deal. The Stars and Lightning are in the SCF this year. Last I checked the Lightning would have a lot of cap issues if another team offered Sergachev a 4/$5.5M offer sheet. Fine, one has done the negotiating for them. But they'll be over the cap and have to make some moves to get back under if they match. After next offseason, sure, the Stars can handle a $6.5M cap hit. But they have only 4 forwards and 3 D with NHL experience currently signed for 21-22. I'd even go 4/$8.7M per for Heiskenan. Why not make filling out the roster a little tougher on Nill? Gentleman's agreement to make life easier for all GMs at the expense of using the offer sheet as a tool to improve one's own team?
