3 years younger, better defensively, and being a center outweighs 7 points. Oh and Petey had the better offensive year last year too

Great deal for the Canucks, any time you get your franchise centre locked up for 8 years it’s probably good but this is especially good considering people though he would get 12

This is an excellent signing for the Canucks. Pettersson is the face of the franchise, and seeing him buy in for the next 8 years is super exciting. 11.6m is the perfect price for Petey, I am so excited to see this team in the coming years. Such a bright future in Vancouver, and they can now just focus on what lies ahead now that there is some certainty with their core.
Curious to see if the Canucks will be more trigger happy at the TDL now, obviously they already went out and got Lindholm, but now they know their budget for next year. This extension couldn't have come at a better time. So happy for Vancouver and the third Sedin brother

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
Yeah even if Vancity doesn't go far this season all they have to do to win this trade is extend Lindholm...anyone underestimating Lindholm doesn't know much about hockey and that's why Lindholm commanded the price Vancouver paid...for Vancouver to win this trade all they have to do is resign Lindholm which is almost certain they will...

The Nucks win because Lindholm was clearly the best center available this year and they are a much better team now. Great package for Calgary, generally speaking, but at the same time Van is win now mode.
They got the best center available, with teams that wanted him. Big dub.
As an aside, what does Boston do now? Dvorak? ..

(TOR/VAN) - Lafferty for 2024 5th (VAN)
Good trade for both teams, but better for Vancouver. He should improve their bottom 6.
For Toronto, I’d call him a cap casualty rather than a cap dump, because “cap dump” implies that he’s overpaid, which he is not, but he is a few hundred thousand over the league minimum, and because they wasted $4M of cap hit on Klingberg instead of the kind of defenseman they really needed, now they need to nickel and dime their way into cap compliance to avoid having to give up a more impactful player. A 5th-round pick isn’t much, but it’s better than nothing, which is what Toronto probably would have got for Lafferty if they tried to waive him. Toronto now has 9 picks in next year’s draft, so maybe they can parlay some of those extra later picks to move their 3rd-round pick into the 2nd round.
The 5th-round pick is a small price for Vancouver to pay to make sure somebody else couldn’t claim him on waivers before they had a chance.

In a vacuum, this is a Canucks win. Sam Lafferty is much better than a 5th rounder.
However, with the Leafs' cap situation, they would have likely had to give up an asset to get compliment anyway.
Furthermore, I'm not sure where Sam Lafferty fits in with the Canucks.

Wild how far they've come with no upgrades. Genuinely wonder what the key to their success was. You also said there were a fringe wildcard team, so we're both wrong.

Good moves for Vancouver this week, getting Zadorov and $400,000 cap space for Beauvillier and a 3rd. You have to look at the two trades together because one doesn’t happen without the other.
I’m surprised Calgary didn’t get more for him. I’m not a delusional Flames fan – I know he’s not a star – but with all the teams that seem to need defensive help and could use a big body, I thought he’d be one of the more sought after rentals. Most of those teams couldn’t afford to take him without retention though, so I think Calgary limited the market by wanting to move his whole salary. I guess they felt they needed to clear the cap space for something – maybe there’s more to this than simply selling a pending UFA for whatever you can get. Otherwise, I agree with the people who said they probably would have been better off waiting, especially being not too far out of a wild-card spot now. A sell-off seems premature.
