2016 Calder Trophy
The NHL doesn't consider overseas leagues as "professional", so Panarin's and Matthews' time spent in the KHL and the NLA doesn't count toward the Calder requirements. With regards to Gretzky, the WHA was considered a professional league by the NHL.
The issue with Panarin wasn't with his KHL time, but with his age. He was 24 and 25 during his rookie season, as opposed to McDavid who was 18 and 19 at the time. And the arguments against Panarin weren't a legitimate basis for him being ineligible for the trophy, but more for going against the "spirit of the award". A lot of people felt that McDavid deserved it more because he was 6 years younger than Panarin.

Ya tough game when you only play 2 periods. I would just like to see 10 straight games with everyone healthy to see what damage they could do. Unfortunately with fairly lengthy injuries, even when you get back to the ice, you're not really in "game shape" for another 5-10 games. If they can stay within range, the B's could make a strong push the 2d half of the season.

- can't produce home base prospects
- Price contract
- Weber/subban
- His deadline disaster deals trading for 4th line players like Ott and martinsen and giving up guys like Andrighetto
- Trading there only A level prospect who is proving to have signs in him that can be elite.
- The list goes on</div></div>
are you saying the Weber-Subban deal was bad for Montreal? Weber is better and as much as Subban's younger, Weber has played very good in Montreal.</div></div>
Weber is not better than Subban. Subban has the ability to change games himself. Weber is good, but is slowing down and can't change game flow the way Subban can. Point being they traded a younger, more dynamic defenseman for an older, more static defenseman.

We're not in bad shape. I mean if you look at it, we're so decimated by injuries, but were still in these games against of the NHL's better teams. Our last 4 losses have been one goals games and some of those required OT/SO, so the team is getting points. I will say its said the lack of support Rask gets with his own fans. When Boston loses the fans instantly blame Rask and when Boston wins those same fans wont give Rask a shred of credit. <strong>Its also getting annoying how the in thing seems to be calling every goal against a "soft goal"</strong>. The good news is that term helps me figure out who knows what their actually talking about and who is just a following the masses to try to fit in, but doesn't anything about hockey.
If we can get healthy, we just need to get into the playoffs (even as the last seed) and see what happens. This team has the talent to surprise people, we've just been unable to ice a full team all year.</div></div>
haha, I see that all over twitter. Every goal is a soft goal now according to a majority of bruins fans</div></div>
For that reason I'm glad I'm not on Twitter!!

Actually sick of how people see Evander Kane right now
I wouldn't call a guy who hit 30 goals once (6 years ago) a 30 goal scorer and certainly wouldn't call him a 40 goal scorer. For his career he's averages 24 goals if he plays a full 82 games. Now he's off to a solid start this year and on pace for something like 44 goals, but can he maintain that. Its like Kucherov, he's on pace for something like 76 goals, but does anyone actually think he keeps that pace? To put it into perspective, the last time someone scored at least 76 goals in a season was 25 years ago.

Lindholm vs Ekman-Larsson (In regards to the GM game trade)
Trade wise, Lindholm has much more value than Oliver Ekman Larsson. Lindholm's contract has long term security at a very reasonable cap hit for a top pairing defenseman. Lindholm's current cap hit is already less than Larsson's and given that Larsson is due a raise in two years combined with the UFA factor, no team with cap constraints would be wise to make the deal straight up.
From a playing perspective, Larsson and Lindholm have two completely different defensive styles which makes it more difficult to compare their play as defensemen and impact. Larsson is an offensively minded d man coming off of a slightly down season. Lindholm is a more defensive minded defenseman who is still very capable of moving the puck effectively, but his offensive numbers were diminished last season as well. The way I think of it, Lindholm is the much safer bet. If Lindholm's offensive numbers decline, he still is a very capable defensive d man who can excel in a shutdown role. Lindholm has brilliant defensive smarts and awareness that can make up for a lack of offense. If Larsson's numbers decline on offense, his defensive play isn't quite as strong and won't be able to support his play as much. It is unlikely that either player is traded IRL which means that OEL's stats are more likely to suffer along with his play style, while Lindholm is on a better team that can help mask any deficiencies if there are any. It's important to note this since hypotheticals of "well Lindholm wouldn't be as good if he was on ARI or OEL would be better if he was on a good team" don't hold any water since these are unknown variables in player evaluation. Both are good skaters as well, allowing their play styles to for the most part thrive in the modern NHL.
Straight up I think the deal is slightly biased towards Arizona as they'd be getting a player with a good cap hit and term, which is critical to the success of any franchise in the modern cap world. Resources must be allocated efficiently to set up the best odds to succeed and Lindholm achieves that better from a money to value standpoint. I definitely wouldn't add to Lindholm though in any case.

JOIN THE GM GAME - AGM'S NEEDED!
I wanted to post this advertisement for users to consider joining the 2019-20 GM Game
You should swing by the "GM Game 2019-20" forum located in the Forums section of CapFriendly.
The way this game operates is having 31 people like you and me, pretending to be fake GMs of each franchise. You'd get to act as if you were in charge of a team. You would negotiate deals with our GMs, make trades, and everything else that happens in real life, that an actual GM would do. There would also be free agency, the draft, expansion, and more during the offseason; in additions to the power rankings released every month.
You would start out as an Assistant General Manager, but you would be a great addition to this fun game. GM spots open up as GMs are fired/leave, and AGMs would take over their spots.
If you have any questions, please check out the GM Game 2018-19 forum at: <a href="https://capfriendly.com/forums/gm-game-v3" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://capfriendly.com/forums/gm-game-v3</a>
