none of these trades make the team any better. that colarado trade is so bad. now the defense is good but the forwards besides the 1st line and matthews is bad

make the playoffs with 13players
Each forward plays average 25-26 mins and each D man plays 30 mins. I think the forwards could do that but it would tire them out in the long run but 30 mins every game for a D man is really tough and i dont think they could keep that up for a full season. goaltenders would have no problems with the workload.
if you add one more forward and one more defenseman it becomes a lot more feasible (average 22.5 mins/game for forwards and 24 mins/game for D)
obviously this assumes no injuries

Marner 12mil Kapanen 4mil Johnsson 3 75mil and Thornton 2mil
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJoseph13</b></div><div>With Marner I would go with a 8milx2 or 11milx8 give or take 500k.
Kappy 3.5x3 give or take 250k he shouldn’t get 4mil.
AJ 3x2 give or take 250k.
Ozi shouldn’t get more than 900k, but I think he is going back to the KHL cause he will get paid more there.</div></div>
Marner - $10.5M x 6 years
Johnsson - $3.25M x 4 years
Kapanen - $2.85M x 2 years (debatable 3 years)
Ozhiganov - $875K x 1 year (or he can walk to the KHL if he wants more)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>Why should Johnsson take less than Kapanen?</div></div>
He won't.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJoseph13</b></div><div>Kappy plays a better 2way game and AJ is unproven. Kappy is a better player and his contract should be longer. AJ is older, Kappy is faster. AJ is better at something though.
This is just my opinion.</div></div>
Kapanen is just as unproven as Johnsson is. They've both only played 1 season in the league and put up similar numbers. Johnsson gets more money on a longer term deal though for 3 main reasons:
1) Johnsson is older. His next contract will buy out UFA years unless it's a 1 year deal. UFA years are always more expensive so the AAV will go up
2) Johnsson will get more term than Kapanen. Johnsson took his shot and banked on himself last summer by taking a 1 year cheap deal to prove himself. He has. He's not taking another short term deal this summer. 3 years is the minimum he'll get and his AAV will compensate for what both sides project him to be when the deal is done.
3) Johnsson is actually slightly more proven than Kapanen. Both spent a lot of time in the AHL but Johnsson was a more impact player when he helped the Marlies win the Calder Cup and Johnsson was playoff MVP. That shows that he has the capability to be a more impact player. Yes it's the AHL, but it's a stepping stone. Kapanen doesn't have any awards like that.
In the end, Johnsson gets more. Not much but it will be more. See above for reasonable contracts on both of them

BUYOUT LUCIC AND TOR BUF TRADES
Odds are Oilers won’t buy out Lucic. That’s a lot of wasted money on the books for many years. Best bet is to keep him for another year, then send a pick to Seattle to take him in the expansion draft.
Who knows, he might have a bounce back year and surprise some people!

It wasn’t just the stick handling it was the creativity. He did stuff that amazed other NHL players, who pretty much have spent more time on the ice than asleep.

Nope there isn’t... I win... what did I win? Is it a brand new car?
Moving a player like marner while other teams try to bend us over the barrel in a cap crunch will never work. I mean the kid just used his body like it was Crosby’s dryer in the basement to keep us out of overtime. What more do you want?

That was pretty awesome at the end of the game. The dude is a piece of work!
It's late, and despite being a leafs fan, I'm choosing to enjoy a win tonight, instead of getting all leafy angsty..
But whatever the answer to this riddle is, no one is irreplaceable. I mean, Gretzky got sold and the oilers won another cup while 99 never did..
So, after stirring that Marner contract will ruin the leafs pot, I bid you a good night, sir ;)

I wish you all would stop trading Patrick Marleau for a 6th or 7th round draft pick. He's having a better year than Rickard Rakell, Adam Henrique or Corey Perry. He's having a better year than Adrian Kempe, Jeff Carter or Tyler Toffoli.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Man, NJ is not moving Hall without top talent. This is a classic quantity for quality trade.
That third line of yours...2/3 of them should be the players going back to NJ alongside with picks to make them even consider the offer.</div></div>
I disagree if it's for the purpose of a rental. Necas has 1C upside Svechnikov isn't moving and Kuokkanen has only started to show what he can do. I agree the trades are off, if that's all it took to get Taylor Hall, we'd have him yesterday. As for the Nylander for Pesce trade, it's a little more in depth then a lot. It's still off, and what is the point in moving Pesce, an elite shutdown D man on a beautiful contract, for a man making 10 mil rn (I know it drops to like 6.7 next year) and a prospect which is like a lottery. If Lilly pans out it looks like a steal, but I think 1, you're better off not making the trade all together, and 2 targeting a goalie spec, we do have Bean and Fox still

Blues probably won??t make this deal but leafs love this deal
There seems to be varying opinions around here about the availability, or likelihood, of William Nylander and the Leafs parting ways after this season. If hockey is really all about business, then I see no reason why he would keep Nylander, when his AAV could cover Johnsson and Kapanen, who I believe play a much better 200 foot game than Nylander. I like that Nylander took some games at center, it ups his value, and dealing him for Parayko would be a big win for an organization in desperate need of a top right-handed defenseman. I suspect there will be significant changes coming if the Leafs lose to Boston again in the first round, so we shall see how this all plays out over the next few months.

Trade Woll
There are other good RHD in the league that are cheaper financially and trade value. I keep going back to Mayfield from NYI on all my posts, but his contract is dirt cheap and won't cost alot in a trade. I'd really hate to see Kapanen go. Plus I don't think Carolina will retain salary. Yes the devils would be a good destination for Zaitsev for cap reasons and their thin blueline, and I think you can get more in return. Zaitsev can play on the powerplay, he just doesn't get the opportunity.
