Sorry but neither Montreal or Vancouver makes this deal. Montreal needs both of those lottery picks to get better long term. Petterson is great but doesn't play RD and is not a franchise player (both of which we need more than another Suzuki level center)

Myers at $3m is an asset. It still costs picks to dump assets to a scorched earth rebuild team. Especially with the value of cap space today

If canucks go scorched earth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>That would be par for the course for Canucks fans. However, Demko has had a number of games where he's deadly, but what has he won? His stats aren't even overly impressive. He's a good goalie without a doubt but he hasn't lead the team anywhere. He is not worth half thism</div></div>
.915 sv% in his last two years is fairly impressive given the defense in front of him, and wins are a team stat, so using them for a goalie seems foolish. For instance, Darcy Kuemper had a .925 with Arizona in 2018-19 and won 27 games, meanwhile Ilya Samsonov had a .896 sv% in 2021-22 and won 23 games, but no one would say that those two goalies were similar, even when considering that Samsonov made the playoffs and won a playoff game in 2021-22 while Kuemper and the Coyotes missed the playoffs in 2018-19. Goalies can only do so much when the team in front of them sucks, so using wins seems like a very poor way to determine value. Especially in this case, when Demko has such an affordable contract, and Toronto is giving up so little to not only acquire him, but shed bad assets at the same time.

The way Barrie has played this season, and including today, we're better off sitting him in the press box than playing 70+ stinkers.
Also, trading that 1st for a skating coach from Canskate for Kulak might be a worthwhile investment.

Goalies that have been traded aren't a 26 year old goaltender with 4 years of term at a reasonable $5 million while putting up consistent .915 sv% seasons. You can't trade for a Demko and expect a return you'd see for a Reimer. The real world isn't NHL 22.

This is genuinely horrible for Vancouver.
Let’s see.
- a first too dump Muzzin and Murray
- a second for Myers
- a 6th for Villienueve
So it’s Demko for Knies? That’s nowhere near enough

Dadonov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Kylington would instantly be the best dman on the Habs current top 6 and is still cheap and young. He can play the right side which is key because Habs are so weak on defense. I think based on if you can add a puck moving young dman poised for bigger minutes for a small price, you do it. Doubt it swings the lottery odds that much to not be worth it. Im doing that any day of the week. Even while trying to rebuild.
Drouin and Dadanov aren't what they used to be and quite frankly, even at 50% retained they'll be cheap to acquire at the TDL. Both are not playoff style players and are coming off declining seasons and won't be put in positions to really excel with the habs this year in order to boost their value anyway. They're both not Sutter type guys but either way Im not opposed to acquiring them but I think you are exaggerating the cost. They'll be, as is right now, quite cheap to get. Maybe a 3rd rounder at best. Dadanov more than Drouin. Again, so far.</div></div>
You are confused, it affects the Habs lottery odds because the Florida pick is unprotected. If the Panthers miss the playoffs then that is a lottery shot as well. What rebuilding team would give up 2 shots at a top 5 pick? It is ridiculous to say they would.
Drouin and Dadonov aren't what they used to be for sure but they still have value and even if they don't, they are on expiring deals so why pay to dump them 3 months early? Again that is ridiculous, just let their deals expire and keep the picks cause that is what rebuding teams do. We aren't trading for a LD when we have Matheson, Edmundson, Guhle, Harris and Xhekaj who are all NHL quality LD and before you say "well Kylington can play the right side" so can Eddy, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj and we have Savard, Wideman and Kovacevic already and that doesn't include the callups available in Schueneman, Leskinen, Norlinder and Fairbrother who can all play both sides as well. Are you getting the picture as to why Montreal passes yet?

Draft 1 and 2
1. I'm super tired of seeing Habs fans trade for 2OA when we already have 1OA. Talk about never being happy...
2. Trading Caufield or Suzuki for 2OA? You guys for real? At what point in life do you trade a guaranteed NHL star for a 2OA who is yet unproven?
Lots of crazy here...

(FLA/MTL) - Smilanic, 1st, 4th for Chiarot
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MelonVK</b></div><div>You understand that you have built a tautology? No one overpaid cause thats literally the market price for every player at that specific time.
What I would hope to be getting at is that the value you're giving up far exceeds any potential benefit from the trade.
A first rounder at the draft got you Sam Reinhart. Schmidt a third. Dillon cost two seconds. Bean a second.
If I'm a GM then I'm just buying everyone at the draft and selling at the deadline I guess.
If you agree with this I guess we agree. But then we've constructed a statement largely built on seasonality. I think it's more constructive to talk strategy in terms of what GMs 'should' and 'should not' do. Buying at this price falls in the 'should not' category for me.</div></div>
well yeah it is undeniably true that the deadline is where you pay the most and it would make more sense to trade for players at some other times. but it not really a realistic approach. the deadline is usually where you know more if you are for real and its easier to commit to trade the futude if you know you are one of the top contender. for exemple in this scenario chiarot would also not have been available to be traded cause habs though they were gonna be contender at the start of the year. also most team are working closer to the cap at the stary of the seaskn and injuries and the potential to get players retained is easier at the deadline. i guess the point im trying to say is that its true that its more expensive at the deadline, but the deadline price is more expensive. and since this is where players have the mos value, these might not be considered overpay at the deadline, since its the norm.

the fact that gustafson is rated so high and got positive numbers is all i need to know to not care about these stats. he is legitemely the worst defenseman i've seen in a habs jersey in a while. (im glad he is doing a bit better with the hawks but he was truly horrible for the habs).

Kudos for probably being the only one that will admit it.
Everyone else will say Florida is wrong before admitting they were. (As they already are.)
Florida got what they felt they needed and they paid about the price that was expected. They didn't get fleeced.
They may have added a little to top other offers and make the deal happen before the deadline to ensure they weren't going to be outbid, but that's reasonable.
