Calgary Retool
Cristall is leading the WHL in PPG and looks like a stud. Mantha is an anchor rn but cap situation becomes easier with Backstrom LTIR.
Caps are not so desperate for help at C to make this deal; the post-Ovi rebuild is imminent and they need all of their own picks. He will break the record playing with traffic cones if it comes to it.

Matt Martin and Clutter will die on the Island wearing Isles jerseys. If this trade happened their fanbase would riot.

Um...they have? And the owner who drafted him died. I know this is the internet where sarcasm and hyperbole reign supreme, but that might be a bit harsh?
Yes, Dal Colle is not a game breaking player, which you'd like to get picking so high, but he looked like he belonged in the NHL this year. That's something.

(EDM/CGY) - Lucic (12.5% retained) & conditional 2020 3rd for Neal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>This trade isn't nearly as bad for Calgary as everyone thinks/says it is. Everybody has to step back and look at the math.
Calgary and Edmonton are not New York or Los Angeles, or Toronto. Neal's contract was/is all salary, equally spread. Thus the Flames owed Neal $23 million over the next four years. In contrast, Lucic's contract was front-loaded and there was a $3 million signing bonus that Edmonton just paid, so Lucic is owed a total of $16 million by Calgary for the same period. Now subtract the retention ($3 million), and Calgary saves $10 million in real cash by this trade. Now $10 million to us sitting in the comfort of our armchairs at home may not seem important, but to the Calgary GM it means that he can offer a free agent next summer a $2.5 million signing bonus in every year on a four-year contract -- money he didn't have before, but which may mean the difference between being able to sign Matt Duchene or Artemi Panarin and being able to sign Ryan Dzingel. So although Edmonton may be the winner on the ice, Calgary is the winner at the bank.</div></div>
Good point - going to add to it and say saving your owner $10M isn’t an undesirable outcome either ;)

Bad Contracts from EDM
Interesting trade but I think you are rating Jesse <strong>really</strong> highly. Giving up four useful pieces in return for two bad contracts and one lottery ticket seems a little imbalanced IMO. Yes, JP has elite talent but has yet to show it on NA ice, and I expect Kenny H recognizes they need to move on. EDM doesn't have a whole lot of leverage.

And I think the return of Val is a worst case scenario. No shot he sniffs 17 goals again next year.

Just a thought leafs
I like the idea but I think TOR would have to throw in an asset or two for the Ducks to actually agree.
The California teams have a lot of leverage, considering:
1. Marleau's desire to return to his family on the west coast
2. Everybody knows the leafs need to offload salary this summer, particularly Marleau's contract as they could still keep Zaitsev

I think this is a totally fair deal. Under Trotz, his game at both ends grew considerably. No way he would have gotten anything less (dollars or term) on the open market.

Washington Capitals signed Pheonix Copley (3 Years / $1,100,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1972</b></div><div>All of the chatter here surrounding Samsonov is a bit off base. Samsonov is still the goalie of the future in WAS in the same way Hart was in PHI at the start of this season. Signing Copley to this deal does 2 things. First off he is an affordable backup in the near future and has a cap hit low enough to be sent down without cap implications. Secondly when the expansion draft comes along he will meet the exposure requirements. Holtby's future contract will be decided when that time comes and as WAS has proven over the years they are not afraid to move goaltenders (Varlamov, Grubaer).</div></div>
Thank you hockeyfan for putting it so well. Everyone in this thread should read your comment. This contract is about locking up a competent backup and ensuring expansion draft requirements will be met. Nothing - AT ALL - to do with Samsonov.

(PIT/FLA) - Brassard, Sheahan, and multiple picks for Bjugstad, McCann
Pens pay to add term and upside with bjugstad. Brassman was never a good fit and pens are happy to move on. At this point, he was a sunk cost.
If bjugstad can stay healthy then this is an easy win for the pens as he can fill the 3C void since bonino left for years to come.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zeerak</b></div><div>I feel Ottawa won't be willing to give term to Ceci and tbh they've made plenty of questionable moves in the past calendar year so I don't think this is that big a stretch.
Also, wasn't aware they'd signed someone for that role. Nonetheless, Shore wouldn't be a bad depth option.</div></div>
Yeah, totally fair to expect the Sens to completely disregard convention and reason this offseason - if the Hoffman situation is any indication. I like Ceci even with OTT´s organizational depth on the blue line. Johnsson and a 2nd is good value in a vacuum, but is nowhere near as valuable to their team next year to not suck and give COL Jack Hughes.

Dude, what even is the point of having a 6th line. I would set the over/under at 5 NHL GP for all 3 of those guys combined and take the under. Also funny to see your realistic Reaves contract vs. the one he actually got, lol

Ceci would be a huge get for the Laffs but please explain why the Sens would ever make this trade - even if EK stays
Also TML signed Par Lindholm to be a bottom 6 centerman this year, so adding Shore is unnecessary

Greiss got the exact same contract. 3.33m AAV over 3 yrs. Did you not see my earlier post? If anything, Grubauer's contract is cheaper given that it makes up a lesser percentage of COL's overall cap space.
