<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Oh dear heavens. The Blues do not help rivals win. I'm not sure what is confusing. And Colorado can't compete with most other teams in terms of prospects/draft position, so the chances they could table the best offer are slim to none anyway.</div></div>
If you’re going to complain about my point, then let me put this directly. <strong><em>WHY NOT?</em></strong> Why are you against the idea of a mutually beneficial exchange with a rival, putting aside Colorado for a second? Literally what do you have to lose if a rival offers the best offer for one of your rentals and you’re out of a playoff spot? Seriously, what? Are really thinking about this from a emotional “he my rival!” standpoint? This is a business. You make business decisions, rivalries shouldn’t affect business decisions when both teams have needs that the other team can meet. That’s called being blinded by irrationality.
My point isn’t that it hasn’t happened, it’s that the idea of “if we can’t win we won’t let them” is stupid.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>The Blues do not help rivals, let alone handing them their captain. And let's be real, Colorado doesn't have the prospects and higher picks to compete with other teams who might be interested if he goes on the market, which likely ain't happening anyway. Your idea for an offer is more quantity than quality. To send a star player to a rival, it would need to be absolute fleecing (like Federko to Detroit).</div></div>
You talk a lot about my example and none about my logic. Why would you NOT do a deal with a rival? Just saying you don't isn't an explanation, just a statement. Even if you dislike my example offer, if a rival team has the best offer and the Blues are out of a playoff spot, why wouldn't you look into that offer. Can you explain <em><strong>why </strong></em> it makes sense as opposed to just stating it hasn't happened?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>The Blues do not trade impact players to rivals. They have not done so in like 20 years. It's just something they do not do. And this offer is weak anyway.</div></div>
Why not? If a return is mutually beneficial (which you think this one is not and I won't argue with you about that), why wouldn't you? It seems like poor asset management to let somewhat arbitrary rivalries stand in the way of business. Obviously this doesn't mean you have to trade O'Reilly to the Avs, but what's wrong with trading him (or any other important UFA) to a rival team if they offer a good deal?
(e.g. say we offered Olausson, Behrens, the 2023 1st and 2025 2nd for O'Reilly at 50% vs. Boston offering Lysell, their 2023 1st and 2023 2nd, would you not be more inclined to look into the Avs offer?)
My point being: I don't deny that's what the Blues <em>have</em> done, but I don't think it makes sense for them to continue this when there is no detriment. Colorado goes on another deep run and/or goes B2B while St. Louis loads up on prospects + picks and still has the chance to bring back O'Reilly as a UFA.

Hawks trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>If he has value to another team then Chicago can trade him for an asset they want. It doesn't make him a cap dump.</div></div>
Perspective. Some players can be cap dumps to other teams while some won't be. Some team may see a player like Foegele as a bottom 6 option, most likely one with cap space. Some may see him as just pure cap issue, like Chicago. My point is that the Oilers should trade a player like Pool Party elsewhere if they do plan on parting ways.

I mean from Chicago's point of view, yes. Pool Party by himself is not a bad player, he's good defensively and is probably a great add to any locker room, it's more that Chicago doesn't have much value in CURRENT assets, they're rebuilding. Foegele doesn't have as much defensive edge, obviously. He, as well, is just extra cap for Chicago to take on during the tank.
Might you get something for Pool Party from someone else? Probably. This is just looking at it from the Hawks POV.

No thank you from the Avs. I'd only give up Olausson if someone like O'Rielly was involved (elite 2-way center who's having a rough start).

Ok, I know you Blues fans hate our team, but why would you not do a trade (assuming mutual benefit)? If you're out of a playoff spot, or looking very weak going in, why not do a trade (assuming that the Avs give the best offer)? If the Avs were out, I wouldn't mind trading pending UFAs to you guys, Vegas, Calgary, etc. Is there any actual reason NOT to trade a rental to a rival when one team is not going to be a threat one year?
Also this has nothing to do with the actual trade proposed here, I've just seen you be very against trading with Colorado, in general.

Hard disagree. Chicago is trying to tank (at least Davidson is), so I doubt they would have quarrels trading to inter-division teams as long as they got a decent return. It's not like these are two contenders helping each other.
As for the Blues, I can't say anything since IDK their full situation other than that they're having a REALLY rough start.

I'd love to have O'Reilly for a run, but St. Louis is going to (justifiably) want a TON for him. This offer isn't even something they should consider. Probably starts with 2023 1st + Olausson or Behrens + Beaucage? Just an idea of what <em>could </em>be worked around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>This is the deepest draft since 2015. The Avs have basically traded away every pick in the 2022 and 2023 drafts except for the 1st. It will sting a lot down the road if COL has a gaping massive development whole with no prospects because there were none taken. COL did all in last year, need to have some faith that a full season of Manson, Lehkonen, and Byram and continued development of Newhook along with Georgiev can at least bridge some of that Kadri, Burakovsky, Kuemper production. I mean sometimes you just have to dance with who you brought.</div></div>
I think this is just a difference in how we see things long-term. I'm willing to tank if it means we can get a few overpowered teams, obviously there are futurish-current assets we shouldn't move (Newhook, Byram) due to cap reasons, but I don't see a reason why we shouldn't go all-in while we have a window with MacKinnon, Makar, etc. Sure, we may deplete our prospect pool, but for a few more years, we can be contenders.

Ehh I disagree, the 2023 1st has a substantial amount of value, could help us keep our prospects like Olausson and Behrens more easily. We're all-in and should keep our later 1sts unless we need to move them, IMO, once we see how deep the drafts will be.

Firstly, Johnson doesn't waive to go to Chicago. He's almost certainly going to retire as an Av. Anyhow, the Avs probably don't want to get Kane. He's a great offensive player and definitely fits the Avs game with strong, fast skating, but he is trash defensively, isn't a center, and can't kill penalties, all things the Avs need.
Plus, even if we were to trade for Kane, it probably would be the 2023 1st, one of Beaucage or Meyers, and maybe some cap coming back (Compher?) with a lower pick (3rd?), and then again, Sakic won't let go of Compher, he loves him like you wouldn't believe.

While McDrai definitely do make the best 1-2C combo in the league, I would still rather have an elite 1C and the best defenseman in the league in terms of our team composition. I think the versatility of a defenseman who provides both elite offense and pretty good defense, along with that SEVERE underpay of a cap hit makes Makar something I couldn't bear losing. Plus, MacKinnon is a top 5 center nonetheless and the player we build our offense around, so I don't think we're ever gonna let him leave.
