coming home
7x7 I'd say is a bit rough for a center who's currently scoring less than Strome is. Reports from El-Bashir is that they're likely out on any big FAs anyway, as he believes they're more likely to be hunting for buy low guys (like what Strome was) and a Sandin-style trade for a younger player.
Also don't think Cristall or Suz are close to the NHL this year. Would be a disservice to their development to put Cristall, Lapierre, and Miroshnichenko on the 4th line.

Caps likely decline the Timmins trade as they already have a wealth of RD and probably aren't looking to add Timmins as a 3rd pairing guy. I imagine if they target a defenseman it will be someone like Pesce, and would also require them to move Jensen or Van Riemsdyk out.

Obviously now is not really the time to experiment but I'd love to eventually see Ovi-Lapierre-Protas on a line together. Lappy seems to mesh really well with Ovi and I liked the little bit we saw of Ovi and Protas a couple years ago.

Look get over it.
He's not a good leader, and he can't skate. He build a whole career because he can shoot the puck hard standing in 1 place. If you don't believe me, go look at some old power play break downs of the caps.
He sits on his little dot with his stick in the air.... and 4 other guys do all the work.
It is what it is man. he might move 10 feet in the ozone off his little dot.... and you would claim he works like Crosby or McDavid in the Ozone. He don't man. He can't skate, he's slow as hell, and he stands on one place on the ice and everyone knows it.
It's like facing a fast ball pitcher, you know what you are going to get, can you beat it.
but don't come to us all telling us some laughable nonsense about how slow as F Ov can skate.
have a good day!</div></div>
535 5v5 goals, 1549 points, please keep embarrassing yourself lol. It must come as a shock to you that there's more to hockey than just a power play and that Ovi has thrived when the game is at even strength. This is top tier delusion, even most Pens fans aren't this deluded :tearsofjoy

Seems both you and Brian Boucher wish he couldn't skate lol. And Carey Price... and Tim Thomas... and Henrik Lundqvist... and all the other goalies he's scored on with highlight reel dekes and goals. Oh and the other 130+ goalies he's scored 5v5 goals on. almost forgot ;)
Edit: oh and Marc-Andre Fleury. Can't forget the goalie he loves to score on the most!

Washington recently re-upped Protas so I don't believe they'll be looking to trade him. Maybe he'll be available in a year or two depending on how far along Miroshnichenko, Leonard, and Cristall are, but currently fits the same role Lars Eller did so they'll likely be hesitant to move him even with a surplus of forwards.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Look how far you are stretching man. If Sprong is such a great player why has he spent the last two seasons on 1 year contracts from 2 different teams?
I mean really. Take the homer glasses off.
There is plenty of evidence on how bad a leader OV is. Just go look at the video of the games he lost to the penguins left and right with him sitting on the bench pouting half the game.
He's never been a good leader, and caps fans themselves have pointed it out. He's never been a guy to rally his team to win, or lead by example. Other than trying to teach Wilson how to be his little crony thug.
That's not exactly leadership. But hey, keep thinking what you think. It's funny to see people come out and say Sprong is a good player who doesn't struggle finding contracts. Because you know, it's typical to sign good NHL players to 1 year deals to teams that finished the year bottom of the league last year.
Hell maybe the yots should sign him to a 4 mil per x 6 deal if he's so good lol</div></div>
Firstly, lol. Ovi was about the only guy to consistently show up in big games for at least 5 years, except for maybe Joel Ward. He's the guy getting the entire team in the zone before games and going over what they did well after. Video of this is readily available and the guy was in the middle of the huddle game planning during timeouts, the notion he was "pouting" when he was playing 20+ minutes and was the only one scoring is clearly your selective Penguins fan memory. This is the same guy who helped Adam Oates bumble his way into a playoff series in 2012, going from last to first in no small part due to his leadership. There's video after video of him miced up getting people to rally together, it's only ever been him or Oshie to get the troops rallied. You'd think former players, especially those who left on a sour note, would have anything bad to say, but they do nothing but sing his praises as a leader. really makes ya think...
also, on wilson, big lol. Wilson played fourth line for 3+ years with Eric Fehr, Jay Beagle, and Aaron Volpatti among others. Management, not Ovechkin, chose to force him into the grinder role for those years, and blaming Ovi is clearly the Pens fan in you still being mad about Zach Aston-Reese. To claim Ovechkin made him "his goon" is Qanon levels of conspiracy.
And on Sprong, lets see how he gets paid this year. Considering he's a 0.5 ppg winger on a team on the verge of playoffs, I'd say he won't have to worry about money for the near future.

one meaningless statement here.
He's know to not be a good captain, for decades. Even WSH fans think this.</div></div>
You have no evidence, no caps fans actually think he's a bad captain, and Sprong is half a point per game, far from "fighting for a contract". If he's "known" to not be a good captain, despite all evidence to the contrary, how bout you show some proof. It's amazing really, everything you just said was wrong.

Would be surprised to see Washington bidding here. Fehervary and Sandin have set themselves pretty firmly in the top 4 on that left side, and I don't imagine MacLellan will be looking to give up premium assets for another LHD.

Coyotes won't be moving Keller and if they were it'd take more than this. He's a point per game player with a good contract for the next 5 years so the Yotes will want more than a singular 1st.

Oshie won't be moved, he's going to retire in DC. Highly doubtful anyone wants to pay for Kuemper either, and responding to his struggles by giving Ned a 5 year deal could be equally as unsavory in about 2 years.
Think you could get more for TvR, think he could return at least a 3rd.

Don't see a fit for Grundstrom with the Caps, just not enough space for him with all the other young players on their way from Hershey. Don't really have an issue with the price, just not a fit in DC right now.

Its better for the Caps to Miss the Playoffs
Can't imagine you'll get positive value for Kuemper. The Merz-Kuemp swap I've seen thrown around seems to be the closest the Caps would get to any sort of "value" (though for reasons of earlier in the season I don't know if Merz would get along well in DC). I'd rather just hold onto him: buy him out if you must next year but at least let him mentor Stevenson for a season before he's shown the door. Would like to see them keep Bear around unless they need the cap space. I haven't really been a fan of his this season but depth is always needed and you might be able to pawn him off for more at the deadline if you give him another chance next season.

Ideal
Pretty much none of this is truly ideal for Washington. The caps would be selling low for no reason on Dowd, TvR, Lindgren, and Bear, when they still have the cap space for at least two of them in this scenario, and it's especially not worthwhile to trade Dowd for scraps when his replacement is Tierney. On the other side, the Oshie trade is an overpayment by Tampa and it won't happen anyway, since Oshie has a modified NTC and wants to finish his career in Washington. The Markstrom trade makes little sense to Washington as they would be replacing Lindgren with a more expensive and older goaltender in Markstrom with similar stats, so there's no use throwing away Lindgren just to spend a 1st on someone with what I can only explain as "name brand" value. Brodie and Timmins aren't too enticing either, Alexeyev has been a good 3LD which makes Brodie unnecessary, and Washington isn't foolish enough to trade a defenseman to Toronto for peanuts just to turn around and then send more to the Leafs for another defenseman when they can just keep Van Riemsdyk who is already a reliable option. Finally, 6.75 for Stephenson would be high risk for a player who's a half a point per game this season, and doesn't really make sense when you factor that the Caps are paying less for Strome and that it forces DC to put Miroshnichenko on the 4th line, which makes no sense for his development.

Desert Ridge Playoffs
Caps decline here, TvR might be on the way out (though I find a Jensen exit much more likely), but Washington has no current use for Kerfoot, as he won't supplant Lapierre or McMichael in the middle 6. Washington would likely be looking for picks if they choose to move one of Jensen/Van Riemsdyk.

Thoughts
Caps already have a wealth of forwards, and Jarnkrok isn't currently worth trading a 2nd for, especially when a move like that could take away playing time for Miroshnichenko and Leonard.
