Crazy to see how high the standards are for championship teams. I turned on the game today and saw the OEL - Myers pairing get scored on twice in ten seconds and just laughed lol

What About The Islanders
Isles management have sorta boxed themselves ink by obtaining Horvat and giving up two good assets. 9m X 8 Horvat....just because "he wants it". Is that good long term value for a guy who having a career year? I dunno.

I meant to say UFA money. Why give up all that when can get a UFA for the same price. The teams that can afford his cap this year and next year....Jersey (as you suggest), and I would add Sabres and Wings, they really don't have the pressing need to acquire him this season (they aren't Cup bound).

Rumor has it, That there are as many as 7-8 teams after Bo Horvat. And the Bruins can't match 95% of what those other teams can offer.

If jimmy murphy said it, it’s guaranteed not to be true.
There’s no legitimate rumor, just a bunch of bloggers that are trying to stir up clicks. No single credible source has them even talking - because they probably aren’t.

Maybe the most true thing I have read today.

yeah imo this is one of the least talented wing groups in the league, might be the least. even some of the horrible teams have keller, kane, meier, caufield who are better than what we have. this team relied on having three second-line caliber lines instead of a true first line, but with so many guys now underperfoming you really feel the lack of star power

I'm not sure how happy he can be when the team holds this presser and essentially calls him a liar. I agree with you, it starts with management. They've gone through countless GMs and coaches over the years. At some point you have to acknowledge the problem may be further up the chain.</div></div>
I'm saying that before this team wins that core will be gone because as we've done for a decade plus now, this team has tried to rush the rebuild. We've been in the playoffs once in that time? I dont think Hughes will be moved anytime soon but in 4-5 yrs when we are still terrible because we tried to speed up the rebuild we'll eventually settle on moving him too.

It doesn't even matter. I agree he is always quite candid but where does that lead? The main message is that they think they can turn this thing around in a yr or two which is totally unrealistic. Not to mention they are looking to commit more money to UFAs when we have no cap. Then he's gonna limit the value of any return because he wants young roster players instead of picks and prospects. It's just clownish.

After today I think it is fairly clear that despite hiring like 7 gms the Canucks have horrible management and will not be righting this ship during Rutherford's tenure. The most simple and obvious moves of trading Horvat, Kuzmenko, Schenn for picks and prospects and they don't have the foresight to make the proper movers.
Rutherford has to go. Aqua has to go. Until then this team is doomed.
I think we are now looking at a situation where this club will have to trade Pettersson, Hughes, Demko before we ever compete. The writing may just about be on the wall we just havent come around to realizing it yet.

I think this is a win/win. I know that's a bit bias. I can't claim to be a NYR fan. I did see them take it to the TBL the best they could last year though. I'd say (much like the above) DON'T hurt your future. Don't trade KK or LAF or Othmann or Schneider or K'Andre etc..../any prospect. The NYR have a young team and continued playoff success breads champions. The Hawks Dynasty wasn't a flip of a light switch. It really isn't that much of an ask to be honest. Picks #31 and #25 are pure rolls of the dice.

7 Million In Deadline Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>I think everyone is missing the point, the ,Coyotes are not eating 10.5 million in cap for a 3rd and a 4th. My god very few teams can do this and because of this they will exact a premium.</div></div>
So it's not $10.5M... The Hawks eat $10.5m The Yotes $5.25M in CAP (NOT Dollars) and the Rangers $5.25M for BOTH Toews Kane Combined. The reason everyone on here thinks the Double Retention is a slam dunk is because each Toews/Kane have a Base Salary of $2.9M...of which October Until Potential Trade Date, 100% will be (has been) paid by the Hawks. Let's pretend 50% for easy math's sake. THEN the remaining portion will still be 50% by the Hawks and 25% by the Yotes and 25% by the Rangers. All said and done. The Yotes (or equivalent) will spend approx. $362,500 on each Toews Kane...Thus $725k TOTAL in Cash to retain $5.25M in Cap.
What's $725k worth in picks. I'd argue a 3rd and 4th is an overpayment because they can be split to (2) different teams and $362,500 is a joke. Probably (2) 6th round picks, but it's also not exactly the point.

That’s not the point. You are saying he’s a skilled 90 point player. And teams aren’t interested in the kings ransom for 30+ games.
He’s going to regress in terms of goal production, this isn’t a personal opinion that’s just how statistical medians work. Good him to not he would have up become a statistical sh% anomaly.
Horvat is a good player no one is Denying that but there is a glass ceiling with him and smart teams are aware and roll be buyer beware

Kampf 7 points, Malgin 5 points, ZAR 3 points. Kerfoot, Engvall and Jarnkrok have 11 points combined with a lot more ice-time than the so called 4th line. Kerfoot can play many positions but isn't good at any position. Engvall the TINMAN plays like a 5 ft 140 pound guy. Jarnkrok does get his fair number of chances but is just another perimeter player the leafs don't need.

Fixing the Leafs Once and For All
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>My very first memory of interacting intelligently with someone on CapFriendly was the discussions between us you started back in 2018 about trading Nylander for a similar-value defender, and then NickC1988 suggesting Nylander for Brett Pesce during his hold-out. My point here is that it's gotten later than that -- Toronto needs to construct an entire bottom 4, and soon, because a Band-Aid approach just isn't going to cut it unless Sandin and Liljegren pan out in a hurry. It takes time to develop defensemen -- of the 10 youngsters taken in the 2019 draft, only the first two (Byram, #4, and Seider, #6) have made an impact yet, and one of them (Johnson) isn't even signed.</div></div>
Go back to 2017 and five Dmen were selected in a row at 14,15,16.17.18. None have made an impact yet. That was the year Liljgren was picked 17th, and his progress might as good as anyones of that group.
Leafs mismanagement of the, trading away picks, and not developing players has been poor despite their relatively good record in the past few years. It's gonna to haunt them, and teams that in their division that have cost efficient ELCs, RFAs prospects, picks and cap are gonna catch up the Leafs. Sabres, Sens, and Wings maybe even the Habs could be a East Conference playoff teams soon.
Leafs just aren't as good as last season. I'm hoping they don't go crazy by trading away futures for a band aid solution this solution and likely a first or second round exit. In summer of 2024, the Leafs can certainly retool and they will lots of cap space as Matthews, Nylander, Muzzin, Brodie and Murray will be UFAs. For Leaf fans, here's to hoping that a competent GM can find value.
Though I have hope for Sandin and Liljgren there isn't really another NHLer on the Leafs prospects that screams NHLer. Even the vaulted Niemela is no guarantee. Yep, you are correct Leafs will scratching to fill in the Dmen spots for at least a few more years, and hoping a few play well above their pay range.
And thanks for the compliment bud. I try to put forth an objective discussion with my CF pals. And you of course are one my favs. By the way, a beautiful fall in Ontario. Not all the leaves have fallen yet, and with the drapes open today, the sun beating in, it was 76 degrees inside....about 68 outside in Parry Sound, 140 miles north of Toronto on Georgian Bay (Lake Huron)
I've been curling for a few weeks now. Tonight a great night. Girl friend is curling, and I get to watch Leafs, World Series, Raptors, Survivor and maybe the Amazing Race. Aahh, life is grand.
