Tank for Hughes - Trades w/ COL, NYR, DAL, WSH
Stall gives a left-handed 1st pair D man to play alongside weber, Mete plays 2nd line - develops this year as a wasted year to draft high, and bury Alzner on 3rd line
How is that a wasted trade?

2019-20 / Seguin $$$ + Patch trade w/ CHI
Yeah taking Ward and sending back the cheaper Neimi would just be a salary dump on CHI part - gives them additional cap space to make room at the deadline. Don't know their full D corp, but Benn @ 1.1 M for 1 year is a very solid 7th guy to ward against injury if young D aren't ready for call up - not finding a better value then that. Even if it's Patches for Beaudin and a 1st (I'm all for that - all pluses for us)
Seguin would sign - hopefully after we've tanked the 2018 year and had the 1st overall pick and already drafted Jack Hughes. You sell him on playing with Drouin, and having Hughes as the #2 C and Kotkaniemi and #3 for the future. We need help on D still but Juulsen and Mete should take strides this year plus if in 2019-20 Beaudin can step in on left side that's a much better D corp then we have now, plus Price. Our young wingers need to show this year they are progressing but I don't think it's a massive sell to lure him - will have to out bid everyone else but the team with him and if we can get Hughes wouldn't be a rebuild

Eklund Rumors - COL Duch + Taking on Cap$$
Obviously COL people going to want more. I don't know if this is fair value... Barrie has been a bust since looking so promising out of the gate. Sakic wants the moon but I think with increasing pressure to move Duchene will have to reduce price...
This brings in a lottt of D pieces into their organization, no superstar, but solid good outlook young defenders...with multiple pieces that can compliment what they can draft. Plus Barrie's overpaid contract off their bookings, frees them up immensely to spend more wisely this coming off season to really jump start their reset
Thoughts..

Why would the Sedins waive their NMC to go to Montreal? If they waive you would think they would go to to Cup contender.</div></div>
Not the producers they once were sure, but I think putting them in 2nd (even 2/3) line role... the opposition they'd be going up against their versus 1st line match up, definitely still able to put points up.
And good jab there...but just stupid, Habs with this trade are a top tier contender for the cup. Only lacking left side top D, which hopefully Julien's system can help mitigate that in combination with Price back stopping the whole operation

Pump your breaks... I'm not researching every little detail here. If that's the case then they just retain 50% of one of their salaries, still works with cap space this year. Byron is a good NHL ready player to give up, bargain contract. Youth can fill that void on MTL bottom 6.
- Hurts giving up those draft picks, but the best window to win is now and with this forward group after this trade I'd argue they match up against anybody and present problems galore.
- If they can get away with some other combo and hold on to their 1st (like giving them their 2 2nd rounders) they I think this softens the blow a little bit
At the end of the day though, if they could pull this off I think you can make a strong argument that they would be a legit contender to win it all this years</div></div>
I think Dougie is having a bad day^^^^^^</div></div>
Definitely... and the more I think about it, more think both see benefit and really like the look of our line up

(Byron with 1 decent year), with the Price contract coming on board next year, and looking to bring in cost effective players. . .do you really need to give up 3 picks when you need to restock the cupboard?</div></div>

Yup definitely not. I think Juulsen is untouchable unless bringing back a D in return. That would completely empty our pool of prospects

<strong><em>"Quoting: Bflo_Soldier
Montreal has too many older players to be able to afford to hemorrhage that many high draft picks.
If it landed us Mackinnon in this case, I would gladly pay that price."</em></strong>
Exactly...you give up high draft picks for next 2 years and top end G prospect..but this solidifies your top 6 for at least next... 5-6 years... probably longer if cap space managed well. There are fewer D prospects in the pipeline which is a concern, but are a couple, especially if Jerabek can pan out and be retained to help bridge that gap. You have Scherbak, McCarron and others to help bring up bottom 6 in near future or move into top 6 if cap space cannot be managed... or need to move top 6 FWD asset to bring in DEF help in a couple years

Trades with MIN (Brodin for MTL... Radu and more Cap Space for MIN)
Yeah you're right...they only give up a D so they can protect one of their already more established D-men that is currently going to be left exposed, while shedding 6.75 mil in cap space from an ageing Koivu while getting back a highly skilled slightly younger winger that's locked in, a promising mobile defensemen and a top 9 FWD for cheap

Bergevin - Habs 2017-2018
Ya I wish. Not getting Chucky to sign for that low though unfortunately, and could definitely get something more for Beaulieu, whether different combo of picks or prospect. Would rather not get Hanzal and sign Chucky to more realistic figure. But overall doable and real spicey

For Sure Cup Worthy
Those top 2 lines would be deadly. 3rd has potential to produce solid secondary scoring. 4th is a mix of speed on the outsides and size down the middle. Defense is solid all the way through, and can take minutes away to use Markov better and not run him into the ground, even potentially moving Benn up with Petry from time to time and drop Markov with Sergachev. Hopefully Marky would take discount last couple years to help the team out in being able to win the cup

trade chucky, beaulieu, shaw, pleky, emlin
Hard to gauge that imo. But can see your point, that could be tweaked so no 2nd Rd coming back from NJD and either 3rd becomes a 2nd from MTL end or adds the 2nd in addition. Either way that vastly upgrades their FWDs from where they stand now and with age group of the main contributors being mid to older that increases the need to want to have accelerated plans..neither these top 2 picks is going to be dominant for a few years and they'll have lost some key veterans or those vets won't be contributing as much by then.
Hard to tell COL end too, maybe you get away with keeping Beaulieu. That would be preferable. This part would be harder ...coin flip in my estimation, Duchene plus Kovalchuk and others immediately makes Habs cup favourites I think, and getting it in while can still have Max under a bargain contract because once he's up we're going to be hard pressed to be this deep
