Rossi is available but READ ME
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>I'm not "excpecting" a guy like Gauthier, or Carlsson, in return. I am telling people those are the types of players that would make Rossi available. Gauthier and Carlsson on the high end, obviously Rossi is available for them. It's not to suggest that's Rossi's value or that those deals end up happening or that those players end up becoming available. Kaliyev is a no go. Kasper, Wood, Kent Johnson, Miroshnichenko all in the acceptable range somewhere, as I have them listed here.
I don't see Rossi being traded if it's for a package of a much lesser piece and a 2nd, like Gauthier for Drysdale was. And I, as the ACGM, certainly wouldn't make that move.</div></div>
I would just skip the 1-for-1 part…and just say he will be used in a package to upgrade roster.
Also, I wouldn’t limit to guys who are in the outs with their team. I would look at undervalued guys (down year) or guys heading to RFA or positional swap (like for dman).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Like Cutter Gauthier, whom he was floated around for before he was moved to Anaheim.
Again, that's what he's available for. He's not just available for the sake of being available.</div></div>
I thought you were floating the Cutter trade as an example of the type of trade Minnesota wants.
But I would not expect a player like Cutter in return.
Seems more likely Guerin ends up as the Philly side, sells Rossi for two lesser pieces (and doesn’t start an unwanted contract) than getting a guy like Cutter, Carlsson, Guenther, etc. Kent Johnson perhaps the high water mark. Arthur Kaliyev probably the bottom of the range. Kasper, Wood, or Miro maybe in plausible in one-for-one swaps.

But the alternative to Sullivan to NJD is Sullivan stays in Pittsburgh…and they carry on.
The alternative to Keefe to NJD is Keefe goes to another team that may pay off a bigger chunk of his deal.

Maybe. But the business side complicates it.
Keefe is still under contract with Leafs. NJD will still be paying a portion of Lindy contract, so probably bids low on Keefe. If Leafs approve, the balance is all dead money. If they wait for another team to offer more $, it would eat a bigger chunk out of their sunk costs.

Trades
5v5…pts per 60
Holtz 1.87
Rossi 1.73
If Rossi is going to end up on the wing, we would probably be looking at it as a lateral move. Holtz has another year on ELC, so there is no reason to move him unless it returns an improvement elsewhere in the lineup. And with a new coach coming in, chances are he won’t be buried on 4th line getting 9-10 minutes a night.
Marino has a NTC arriving July 1st….which would be the only argument for moving him before we have a replacement ready. Last year, after losing Severson and Graves in off-season, we lost Siegenthaler and Hamilton to injury…and we got really exposed on blueline. Want to avoid that again.

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #6: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Yah I feel like that makes sense on each option. Though to clarify, is the Sullivan getting fired stuff an actual rumour or just speculation?</div></div>
It’s one of those ‘rumors that never die’…and Dubas had a chance to dismiss it and only said something like, “we are having discussions about future”…so that was like pouring gasoline on it.
Kevin Weekes is close with NJD front office and has broken many ‘management’ type of stories (he was first to break the hiring of Brunette, Lindy’s extension, and the naming of Hischier as captain). Weekes has been one of the people talking about Sullivan-to-NJD….and has even suggested it may come via trade. He is usually fairly reliable…so there could be something to it. It would make sense why they have taken so long (and one theory on interviewing Keefe…was to nudge Dubas along a bit).
