Improving the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Sorry, but Wings not eating 7 million dollars in cap for Brink, and then giving up a 3rd round pick. Yzerman has not once in his tenure with the Wings taken on a cap dump, and doubtful he does now.</div></div>
I don't think its a big cap dump tho. JVR has been very solid and brings in a veteran net front presence to fit on the 3rd line for 1 year. And he's definitely brought in a cap dump. Marc Staal? I'm fine with not getting any picks back too, but Brink is a good prospect to get to take on 1 year of cap for veteran presence that actually plays at a solid level. Obviously this is very far out, so maybe its not possible by then, they may spend big on someone this offseason. But if they miss out on a big free agent, I could see them willing to add 1 solid prospect and 1 solid powerplay and vet presence for just one year.

You do realize the Flyers have to fit Kevin Hayes in. He won't be on LTIR much longer as is, especially not into next season.

Would have to give up more for Johnny, but that 2nd line would be called the Boston U line haha. It would be fun. Tough to keep everyone after this though. hahah.

And I don't mind a good trade with tampa, like if a team trades for Palat, they sort of are bailing them out, but not really, because Palat is/was a big part to their success. Tyler Johnson as you mentioned a lot of term left for an aging dwindling talent, and was the one player that essentially doesn't move the needle much for them either way. He's a solid player still, but more easily replaceable.

They essentially lost 11 mil towards their cap if you factor in LTIR. 6 that doesn't count towards cap trade out for 5 mil that will count towards cap, right after you just re-signed Seth Jones to 9.5 mil AAV that kicks in next year. Bowman just creating cap hell for Tyler Johnson's services.

Money wise is fine, but cap wise and impact on the team and bailing out the Stanley Cup champ's dynasty of a team is unfathomable logic was.

Seriously just bailed out the 2 year in a row stanley cup champ with essentially a 11 mil cap swing considering Seabrook is LTIR. Do teams realize they can abuse the LTIR like Tampa does?

of course he'll be on LTIR. I forgot to move him there, but there is zero question in my mind. Stanley Bowman just laid over for the stanley cup champion. What is he doing. Just handing them another great opportunity to run it back. AT least Seattle took Gourde!

fwiw, Hagg is a great dude, and I love his time in philly. He was an awesome teammate and a better person from what it seems. He was one of the few who really tried to protect Hart and get physical in front of the net. There is definitely a place for him on anyone's roster if they need a 7th dman that can step in on either side. He has a clear role, but he's just not a high value in the league. Many free agents can provide a similar impact.

OF COURSE! I welcome that idea, just don't see it happening quite yet. I think he continues to take a step forward though. I will say this though, if they could sign him to a Konecny like long term deal, i'd do that in a heart beat. But something tells me his team is gonna bet on him and do a bridge deal as he is showing promise to be a really good player.

Unless Farabee breaks out in a huge way and turns into a top line level player this year, I don't foresee him getting that long of a deal at that high of an AAV. He's most likely headed towards a bridge deal.

I was thinking about them taking some JVR retention as well so each team gets a little bit of a bail out in that area. You are probably right though! I paid too much for that retention, but thats minor changes. I think the fact that it is multiple seasons got in my head, but yea 2 3rds is too much.

CHUCKY ISNT DONE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>While I think you've been too generous for Arizona's retention (and that Arizona is likely be the wrong team to use in that role), you're right about the free agency factor and your offer is pretty good. Whether it gets beaten or not, I don't know. Right now it feels like Vova will stick around for at least a while, and if that happens I'm confident he can raise his value.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>I never really cared for JVR to Blues for Tarasenko (didn't hate it but didn't like it) but Allison makes this interesting. I don't think PHI is realistically even willing to give him up.</div></div>
For me the offer ONLY makes sense if St. Louis strikes out. I think anyone thinking they'll get Beauvillier from NYI or any young assets of real value from NJD is being unrealistic at this point.
I think Philly would be willing to give Allison up to continue to make a change. They have a lot of young guys coming up in the pipeline. I liked Allison and still do a lot, but I think its the only way to make the deal attractive if St. Louis is going to take a pretty much equal contract in return.

Neither side touches a long term deal. Carter Hart is much better than what chuck would offer him long term, and him and his agent know its not worth even attempting that. Agreed we are talking more likely a 2 year deal around 2.75 AAV. won't be much higher than that because they want to save some money for a pretty good co-pilot, until Hart really shows he can rebound.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flyerforlife</b></div><div>Yea I 110% agree. If you move the packages around it's easy to edge yourself off the cliff. In full honesty, I'm not too worried about the draft picks. the flyers are deep in the prospect pool and eventually, you have to try to win. I wonder about a risto extension. I'm assuming somewhere between 5.5-6 million for like 4-6 years? kind of a spitball idea but just judging it off what the other D men are getting on the flyers (provy 6.75 Ellis 6.25). with that and the sanheim deals done the top four is locked up for the next 4ish years and this is probably the best top 4 the flyer have had since 2010</div></div>
Chuck said he's probably going to wait until next offseason. I hate that part of the trade. If you trade for Risto and don't get him under contract on a team friendly deal for the price they paid, thats where its bad. Allowing him a chance to out-perform what he did in buffalo. Then the fact you gave up so much for him, thats bargaining chip for Risto's agent. Hey you obviously value this player a lot, and to have another guy to re-sign that we invested heavily in is rough considering we have G, Coots, Farabee coming up next year and haven't got rid of JVR or Voracek's contract. Thats the worst part of this trade. This draft is so hard to judge, I don't really care about the 13th pick.

DEAR GOD Chuck is garbage for this one. Its indefensible even if Risto has the best year of his career. The package given for a 1 year player,,, major yikes. We aren't tampa bay, we are one physical player away from a championship. WE still need to make a ton of moves to even sniff the cup.

Trading on the Chuck Fletcher value Chart
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresforlife</b></div><div>It's not that people undervalued Risto but I think people vastly overvalue draft picks and prospects - I mean there are very few sure things in a NHL draft and people call prospects untouchable and I check them out and they haven't even played in the AHL yet - Power is the consensus #1 and I feel he has a 50% chance to be a first pair D-man after 3- years - Beniers is a player I'd like on my team but I doubt he's a first line center more like a good two-way 2nd line center - people don't like a 27 y/o because he might decline in 3-4 years but they love a 19 y/o who might take 3-4 years to set foot in the NHL or might not make it at all.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>faulkmydzingel</b></div><div>I agree Risto is underrated. However Philly overpaid significantly in this trade. If you remove the 2nd in 2023 and add 50% retained, the trade is even. But wow.</div></div>
I agree about over-valuing draft prospects, but Rasmus Ristolainen is legit not good, and he is on a 1 year deal. So unless the flyers win the stanley cup this year, this trade is more than likely a failure, because even if Risto outperforms his Buffalo production astronomically. By trading this much for him, you just gave his agent huge bargaining chip when it comes to his next contract. Flyers already have to re-sign Giroux, Coots, and Farabee next year. If he's bad? You don't re-sign and lost a ton of draft compensation. If he's good? You are in a huge cap crunch and probably can't afford to keep him.
*Checks Notes* -- Voracek and JVR still are on the roster with big contracts and we already have significantly less picks to work with because of Ristolainen. Picks we likely needed to trade w/ Voracek/JVR to get rid of them.
And I agree with the guy above. If there was any sort of retention, I'd be a little less outraged, but to get no retention for just this year is freaking nuts. How could you not convince Buffalo to retain on a 1 year deal when they are already fleecing you. Chuck must of had big plans tonight at 8 pm, he was desperate to get out of this 1st round.
