Predators aren't realistic if he's chasing a cup. Although they are having a solid season. They are overachieving team, kind of like the overachieving flyers team from the 2019-2020 season. Giroux isn't waiving to a fairly identical situation to the one he's been in.
He's going to a team he can win a cup with, then he has a decision to make in the offseason whether he wants to keep chasing cups, return to philly, or go home to ottawa. I don't know that him waiving his NMC has anything to do with his future decision. It more has to do with how he's gonna spend his next few months.

Avalanche Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CalderMakar</b></div><div>I personally think Donskoi is having a career bad year and being misused. I think both the team and the player would be willing to try again, and especially if he's half-price. He's a big time playoffs producer and isn't easy to push off the puck. I bet Seattle is willing to get a player like JTC that can play Center and needs a bit of a change of scenery. He's young enough to stick around during the build but could be flipped for half-price to a contender if they wanted later.
Well, let's not pretend Philly isn't in a bad way as an organization right now either. Their biggest possible trade piece has all the cards, has the right to feel like his career has been wasted, and the team won't be ready for a real run before he has to retire. The more you pump him up, the more he has the right to be offended at the team.
From everything we know, he's really attached to the club and the fans, if he may be soured on the front office. So to me, there are two options. He would either want to go the Ray Bourque route to chase a Cup with a serious contender for a short term, either one or two years. To me, the best chance of that, besides somewhere like Pittsburgh or Washington that he fought against his whole career, would be Colorado. It gets some pieces back without either hurting his chance at a Cup or hurting Philly. Or he feels extremely angry at the Philly front office and wants free. In that case, he isn't likely to give them a gift of a bunch of trade pieces just to again hurt wherever he's going. The most likely option is to ride out until UFA and go where he most wants for next year, free and clear.</div></div>
lmao you just said he's probably going back to philly then say he's got beef with the front office and will leave this offseason. Make up your mind. You are contradicting yourself all over the place. I don't think he has any ill will to the front office. They made an effort to make the team better, but it didn't work. He would most definitely want to chase a cup this year thats why he wouldn't wait for free agency. A player Giroux's age is not worried about costing a team a 1st round pick and prospect that are years away from contributing. Players aren't that sinister, they aren't gonna put their life on pause just so a team doesn't get trade value, because some reason you concocted.
There isn't that much drama going on. Its literally the flyers are losing and G deserves a chance at a cup. Just depends whether he wants to given that his family lives in Ottawa/Philly and he spent his whole career trying to build a legacy and be the face of the franchise.
And I 100% agree that Colorado is probably his best chance, but they aren't gonna just give him up to give him up. They'd rather let him walk then give up him up for pennies.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CalderMakar</b></div><div>I get that the return for Giroux is low, but I think when the time comes it'll be something like this. I'll add Kaut to make it a bit better. But he gets final say on where he goes and there's a shortage of strong contenders that aren't old hated competitors or can afford something big. Plus, everyone knows he's signing back in Philly in UFA so it doesn't pay to give everything away for 3 months of him, no matter how awesome he is.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>None of us know on guys that have full trade protection. Look at the other Hall trade. A 2nd and a bottom six winger. And he even re-signed with Boston.
My guess for Giroux is a first and decent prospect/roster player, but I sure wouldn't bet on that being accurate. Could be more, could be less, idk.</div></div>
Few things. I don't know that he is signing back in Philly if he is traded. How often does that ever happen. Its always brought up, but rarely happens. Honestly Ottawa's roster has more potential than the Flyers anyway.
As for the other Hall trade. A lot of stuff was going on with that Hall trade.
Sabres were in a real bad way as an organization and Hall had demanded to be traded. He also wasn't really playing that well. Giroux is maybe the only flyer playing well. Plus he is a captain and face of the franchise. Hall was not that for Buffalo. Trading Giroux is a big blow to fans (even if they sound ready to trade him), its a strong message to the locker room as well. To make it worth the Flyers while, they'll have to be overwhelmed with an offer to trade Giroux.

Agreed!! I think HErtl/Giroux will get about the same value, but I'd imagine Pavelski fetching a little less than those 2 imo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shifttee</b></div><div>that's a joke right?
I legit am curious what your historical basis for that is (show me the last time a rental player at the TDL got a 1st, 2nd, and a prospect like Addison or Lambos)
(that's pretty significantly better than what Taylor Hall got from ARZ)
I could easily see the ask being 1st, & a 2nd, (Giroux is still top tier) but no more than that
I am still curious what previous trades you would base that off of.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>This is strange because I am almost always the one arguing your side. Maybe you value Addison too high? I'm also assuming Minnesota is dumping cap here to make it work
Hall trade returned a 1st + Merkley + Bahl
Duchene traded for a 1st and a conditional resign 1st, as well as Abramov
Assuming the 2nd was the difference between Miller and Namestnikov, McDonagh returned 1st + Howden + Hajek
Stastny trade returned 1st + Foley (he was playing really well in NCAA at the time)
Rick Nash trade returned 1st + Lindgren (and more)
Iginla trade returned 1st + 2 top NCAA prospects.
Again I think this is a difference in perspectives on Addison. Maybe you are right on Lambos though but Addison is in his D+4 year and playing ok</div></div>
I don't know how people can see what Foligno, Barclay Goodrow, and Blake Coleman cost and not think Giroux is worth a good prospect and a 1st. Its inconceivable he isn't worth twice as much as those guys. I know its different style of play. Those guys were tough forwards, but Giroux is bolstering someones top 2 lines with offensive production. I don't know if he's being undervalued by fans because of how poorly the flyers are playing, but Giroux is quite literally the only one keeping them somewhat competitive game to game this year. Singlehandedly. No one wants to overpay for a rental, but you are asking a team to trade the face of their franchise for the last decade, still playing well. Then if the flyers retain half to make the cap easier to maneuver for the remainder of the year... only enhances value.

We fall off next year and gift someone Bedard (or another of the top picks next year). I'd rather deal the 2022 first when you know the pick is in the 17-32 range.</div></div>
I would assume any pick in 23' would be conditional to protect a top 5-10 pick

Yeah I'm fine with not trading them if we don't get our worth. Flyers need a rebuild, but I don't think they should just be bullied into getting less value than they are owed. Last thing we need is another Center over-paid taking up cap space. We got plenty of those style of players already.
Sanheim could net us more to a team needy for a defenseman than as an add-on so it would be silly to include him as an add-on. I thought I did read somewhere though the Flames are interested in another defenseman though.

HE has especially considering he's under contract through 2022-2023 season as well so Flyers add a 6 mil contract for another year, which would enhance the value.
I do think a 1st, Zary, Monahan would get it done easily though. Think taking on Monahan for another year is worthy of upgrading that 2nd to a 1st (preferably in 2023)

Giroux and Sanheim plus taking Monahan's contract back would net more than this. They are done with Monahan. Taking on more contract next year than we currently have nets us more, plus Sanheim has more value than just being an add on. Defense cost something. Sanheim is seen more favorably around the league than this.

Sell Sell Sell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ZachHymanForTheHart</b></div><div>Unless Giroux comes retained by 2 teams, it’s very unlikely.
And I wouldn’t be willing to pay more than we would already for Giroux.
Even that package seems like a lot, but who knows.</div></div>
I'm very underwhelmed by the deal. Rumors are the flyers are asking for a ton for Giroux. A level prospect + a 1st and more. I'd imagine they'll settle for A-/B+ prospect a 1st and some extra picks. It'll go down a little due to the rental aspect, but Foligno netted a 1st as a rental. Even though Foligno is more of a character, physical presence, G should net MUCH more than that.
Then you have to also understand the cost the flyers will need to justify the move to the fans. They'll need something big. He's been the captain a long time, and is in the hearts of the philly fanbase.
( Even if some fans have soured, its a very small group just being loud about it. That same group will also cry when we don't get enough "return" for G, some fans are just impossible to please).
In all honesty the Leafs aren't very likely partner for a G deal. I'd imagine, Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, and Edmonton are the 4 most likely to get a deal done. They'll have a 1st to give, at least 1 good prospect, and a need for G. Flyers will retain half if the return is great. G will have to be willing to waive.

Rangers would have to completely blow the Flyers away with the deal for Flyers fans to be okay with a Giroux deal. Giroux is going to a Canadian team or Western Conference if he's dealt this year. I think the Wild have the best pieces for Philly, but unsure if they want to do it or not.

Flyers decline. Number one reason, if they trade Giroux signifying a change in the culture of the team, they'll want some immediate picks to start developing them and get them to the nhl quicker. They'll be rebuilding no doubt, but more of a 2-4 year rebuild. Not a 5-7 year rebuild.

I disagree on Chychrun. It might not be quite enough, but its not that far off.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>With the Detroit trade you are adding 2 wingers to a team that has too many of them already and is in desperate need of centers. We will have at least another season 1 more season of a flat cap and van Riemsdyk comes with a cap hit of $7M. If a trade like this was to happen I wouldn't except anything coming back but future considerations. More than likely Brink will return to Denver for his senior season and then he doesn't have to sign with the team that has his rights. Just like Petruzzelli did to Detroit in the offseason.</div></div>
Fair points. It wouldn't be hard to adjust the trade for the things you mentioned. I looked at the Wings situation and they have plenty of cap to work with to get 2-3 major free agents and still take on one year of a JVR 7 mil cap hit. Its a 1 year hit, for a player that adds to the powerplay and brings a veteran presence and is highly respected around the league. I think on a 1 year deal, the price to "cap dump" isn't as high as many people think especially with a team that even if they get busy next offseason, will have the cap to do it, and like I said JVR is far from the "dump". He had a very solid season last year, and has been solid so far this year as well.

JVR has been very solid and brings in a veteran net front presence to fit on the 3rd line for 1 year. And he's definitely brought in a cap dump. Marc Staal? I'm fine with not getting any picks back too, but Brink is a good prospect to get to take on 1 year of cap for veteran presence that actually plays at a solid level. Obviously this is very far out, so maybe its not possible by then, they may spend big on someone this offseason. But if they miss out on a big free agent, I could see them willing to add 1 solid prospect and 1 solid powerplay and vet presence for just one year.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Sorry, but Wings not eating 7 million dollars in cap for Brink, and then giving up a 3rd round pick. Yzerman has not once in his tenure with the Wings taken on a cap dump, and doubtful he does now.</div></div>
Actually I just reviewed their situation and they could afford to bring in like 2-3 big free agents next year and still afford to fleece the Flyers to take on JVR who is still solid and could bring a powerplay and vet presence to a young team. I'm doubling down on that one.
