Oh I agree. Personally, I don't think moving Gibby is the answer for the Ducks right now anyway (Without a gross overpayment, which isn't a great idea for most teams in the league). The numbers are certainly weird to look at, but I really think the first change needs to be behind the bench. You know how, when you're trying to teach a powerplay to kids, you get the D side players to flip their sticks over? That's essentially what the Ducks coverage looks like in their own end right now (And that's at even strength!). It's incredibly frustrating.

If I was the Ducks, my plan would be:
-Fire Eakins, replace with a credible veteran coach (Gallant would be awesome, but I know that's not likely realistic)
-Expose both Shatty and Henrique (I'm assuming that Seattle would have some interest in Henrique, due to the lack of NHL-caliber C's that are likely to be available, though I could be wrong).
-Use the cap space that they already have to take a run at Dougie Hamilton (Pietrangelo contract). Assuming he stays with Carolina, or goes somewhere else, I'd try to make a run at David Savard.
-Sign or trade for a decent RW (Comtois-Zegras-UFA). My hopes would be high on this one, but I'd settle for Kyle Palmieri on a 2 or 3 year deal (Unless you want to give me Nylander as a friendly favor :tearsofjoy)

I think all of this comes back to having a coach who is, unfortunately, unable to put an effective strategy together for the pieces that he's currently got. I like Eakins, he's just not an NHL caliber coach.

I mean if you want Kerfoot on the 4th line you might as well just trade him. Just wasting him.

I agree some answers to the Leafs need could be filled from within. IMO try Robertson on the 2nd line before you go out and get another top 6. I am a fan of Barabanov but it’s too soon for a top 6 role. Hopefully he comes back next year to play in the top 9.

Agree Galy would be a nice addition to the bottom 6. But I don’t think he is what Keefe wants as a 3C. Honestly I’d rather pair him with JT and Willy.

But who are we kidding, the Leafs season is riding in the balance of Freddie. It doesn’t matter at all if the Leafs add a top 6 fwd or a steady bottom pairing Dman. If Andersen can’t provide solid goaltending the Leafs chances of making a run are slim to none.

My only hope is Campbell comes back healthy and takes over the #1

This is definitely the best and most levelheaded take ive seen regarding the team. tonight definitely sucks losing to OTT but theyve played hard in that almost comeback against jets and tonight in a b2b situation where they flew today. even if we had average goaltending we wouldve stolen another point from nucks or jets. at least they get some rest and an effective trade incoming soon
