Cup winners without injuries
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafboy101</b></div><div>Who is to stop them? The west is super weak, Boston is old and Tampa isn’t even close to signing point, the team and point are almost $2 million apart in contract negotiations.</div></div>
Lol at the west is super weak, is that why Boston lost in the finals?
To answer your question
<strong>From the East:</strong>
Boston (again as usual)
Tampa (even without Point, not sure if you noticed the 28 point lead in the regular season)
Washington
Carolina
Pittsburgh (their center depth and defense are basically mirror images right now)
Philadelphia
Florida (had 2 issues last year and solved both this summer)
<strong>From the West:</strong>
St. Louis (you know just won the cup and didn't loose a single person from their roster)
Colorado (that first line is better than Bostons and they just made their 2nd line strong too)
Nashville
Dallas
Winnipeg (maybe? Depends on if they fill their holes)
Calgary
Vegas (do you know how much of a difference Stone made?)
San Jose (Karlsson's considered to have had a down year last year and still put of 45 points in 53 games)
All of these teams are perfectly capable of beating the Leafs. Their defense is still subpar and they are running and you have them on a 21 man roster, that means your 21st person has to be able to play both defense and forward in case an injury occurs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maj</b></div><div>I don't think point is going to sign that cheap. He is a really good player and the going rate will be higher. 9.5 - 10 M range, I reckon.</div></div>
There’s no way he gets more than $9.5m. He’s great, but he’s not more valuable than Hart-winning Kucherov or Vezina-winning Vasilevskiy. So long as he can’t argue otherwise, $9.5m is his ceiling. I think the Lightning are probably looking to bridge him, though, which is how they would lower the AAV (and he’d get his more massive check once Johnson/Palat/Gourde/Killorn become moveable, Seattle enters, and the new TV deal comes into effect). Kucherov took a $4.67m bridge and Johnson a $3.33m bridge, and Point now is better than Kucherov or Johnson then, but I don’t think it’s by so much that something in the $7m realm is out of the picture for a bridge. That being said, if we don’t bridge him, anywhere from $8m-$9.5m is likely.

Not starved but we could use one, Fowler can play the right side if need be, we can’t afford to trade one of our best offensive players, we need offence more than RD that trade 100% makes our team worse and a late second doesn’t make up for it

No on paper it is fair value! I just think a 24yo RHD who's signed to an extremely good contract, 3 years left at 5.4M instead of Marner who's going to make close to 10.
Top pair D (one who's arguably one of the best D in hockey) is more valuable than a RW IMO.

It’s bad for Toronto. Even Nylander is too much. I think one first round pick could land Nurse. Why do you want Nurse so bad?

As for the other trades:
Nashville doesn't have the RD depth to replace Ellis and cant afford to sign Marner and Grimaldi.
Edmonton can't afford to take on 4M even with 2 firsts attached
Nylander + 2 firsts >> Zucker and Muzzin for Nurse is a lateral move essentially a net loss in all but cap.
IDK about the last trade, Whitecloud is interesting to me, VGK fans think hes fantastic but i haven't seen him play. maybe hes a Pesce/Vlassic/Strallman like guy since his +/- seems really good but his points are average

No offense but hes pretty untouchable just due to the flames RD free agent situation next year. It would cost like Kap, Liljegren, and more just because the risk of loosing all 4 of our RD is too high
That and Yelesin is our next best and hes only entering the AHL for his first game this year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maj</b></div><div>35. I think I am a bit older than you. Yea man. I live in Toronto but I have been watching the **** show from the late 90s and early 2000s. They leafs were good with pat quinn, but honestly ... teams in the west were a lot better and harder. Avs were my team. Also in 99 Buffalo was my fav lol But yea ... Shanahan , his plan, babcock, lou, dubas and everything they did earned me to respect them. They really have their **** together and know what they are doing. I have been following team building since 2000s and read lots of book on hockey and what not, to realize just how doomed certain teams were because of just how unstable they were, because they didn't have a real plan, then you have teams like nash, who had a really good solid head office, but they had a very tight budget and had to draft well and build up their talent. I really looked up that kind of a model. Also how anaheim was built up, before Burke blew it up by trading away the building blocks and got players in their late 30s and just happened to win the cup, but after that the team went to the toilet.
So yea .... I have been following a lot of builders and learning what it takes to get a real team together. did you know since the 70s until now, the leafs had no real scouts, they were all jokes. I dont remember which book I read it in, but if you asked any real scouts in the nhl what they thought about toronto scouting , they knew it was terrible. Which does explain how toronto was so bad at drafting and building up talent.</div></div>
Ahh, so your 4 years older than me soon to be 3 lol. And I agree and have followed every team as well. Nashville still has mostly the same leadership. Pat Quinn is also from my hometown (we/they actually renamed the street he grew up on to Pat Quinn Way, I miss him dearly as he was monumental in our community, very sad to see him go?? I also got to meet him...great guy) and you're definitely right about our scouting...its been atrocious for years, at least until Shanahan came in with his Shanaplan lol (thank goodness lol) I also liked the Avs and the ducks teams then...(remember Federov on the ducks, still seems kinda weird but also appropriate seems how they won the cup and all) but I truly honestly hope you don't give up on the Leafs as we are definitely happy to have you onboard and hope we don't lose a fan as loyal as you (Shanahan or no Shanahan, ).

What do you think about Dermott, Kapanen, and a 2nd for Ellis instead? (Just a thought/would secretly love to see it lol) and what about Duszak (and potentially a 4th for Whitecloud?)
