Strategic Deadline
-It's an interesting idea, but I think that the Rangers pass. But they don't hang up the phone, if that makes sense. I just think that Drury is pot committed on Kakko and isn't going to move him in a deal for a pair of guys who might be gone come July 1st, even if it clears most of Goodrow off the books going forward.
-I don't see the sense for the WIld. Barring a huge run, they're out of the playoff hunt, so a rental like Brodie holds minimal value for them. If they're moving Maroon I feel like they do it for futures.
-I mean, the value seems fair, but why does Chicago do this? Unless they really feel like there's something they can unlock in Timmins, it doesn't make much sense to me.
-Simple pass for Vancouver. They paid a 3rd and a 5th for Zadorov 2 months ago - why would they send him out for less at this point when he's been perfectly cromulent for them since they brough him in?

I know hes not available but I want him
For me personally, there is no Ek deal that doesn't involve Nikishin.
His cost would be far more than it's worth, you'd be better off just shopping elsewhere.

Trade with the enemy
Eriksson Ek isn't available. But for the sake of argument, a few points to make:
1) You are offering a 1st in the late 20s, an injury-prone young D yet to play a full season, and a presumably late 1st in 2026, so 2,5 years from now. There's some value but nothing that makes the Wild jump out of joy, no surefire asset. Eriksson Ek is a premium defensive 2C with an extremely team-friendly deal. You have to give something surefire to acquire him.
2) We are trading him to a divisional rival here. That means COL probably needs to pay a bit extra. Also, if we made JEEK available, there'd be a bidding war for the ages driving the price up even more.
So, to sum it up, this purely hypothetical offer is not enough for the WIld to trade their MVP to a rival.

Buyers without paying much and sellers for value
Why do you think the Wild are buyers? What makes you think a middle-six player with a 5M cap hit for this season and the next is of interest for them. And why do the Wild give a high 2nd round pick? For the pleasure of doing business?
I'm genuinely interested.

Outproducing? By 1 point? That's not outproducing, that's potentially one game from Ek being ahead by 1 point. And Ek has 8 more goals. Ek is also miles better defensively, not to mention the grit and physical play he brings. Ek is also signed for 5 more years at a very good contract, where Mittelstadt't $ value is unknown, and will probably be higher than Ek's. Ek being two years older and including a 2nd round pick two drafts from now doesn't come close to offsetting the value.

Not a good fit for both teams. Ottawa says not enough value and Minny doesn’t want to take on the cap

Well if a team is playing like complete **** in front of their goalie, it's only natural a goalie is going to look much worse statistically. Look at Gibson in Anaheim. That doesn't mean the goalie is a product of a system though. I'm not saying Gus is Dominik Hasek here, but he's clearly an above average starting goaltender at this point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lightman13</b></div><div>I still think that Gus’s success is as much a product of the mn system as his own play. I think back in Ottawa or New Jersey with sub par defense he’d be much more human as a goalie.</div></div>
Typically when it's the system, you don't have a situation where one goalie has a .921 sv%, 4th in the league, and the other has a .905 sv%, 39th in the league, in that same timeframe. Or one has a 30.9 GSAA and the other has a 1.7 in the same time.
If it was the system, those numbers would be a lot closer. Remember, they've played basically the same amount of games and minutes.
It's not the system.

EA Sports Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lightman13</b></div><div>I’d love to see zebras in wild green but honestly I don’t see them as great trade partnere. The wild do have a lot of centers coming up the pipe line, especially if they think yurov would be a viable center. That being the case - marat, yurov, ek and rossi is a pretty sweet young stable of high talent centers. I think they would more likely be on the look for a high end wing or a top pair defender.than a puck wizard which is what they expected from granlund.</div></div>
Yeah I would think a top 4 D is definitely the priority. You have Faber and then a bunch of question marks for anyone under 22. Assuming they don't win the lotto, I think they'll use their 1st this year on BPA that's a Dman.
this was just for fun during the 2nd intermission of that US game.

That's fair. There's a lot of factors that could be involved, but this is also a league where Pacioretty was traded for FC just because Vegas wanted the cap room to make another move so you never really know I guess.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Tuch was essentially mittelstadt at the time of the trade
Also, are you suggesting ek = eichel?
Woof
I also never said the trade proposed was good. Just that yours is worse. So congrats?</div></div>
So if Tuch was essentially Middlestedt and Krebs was essentially a 1st round pick still, the trades were about the same. I didn't actually say Ek was Eichel, I was pushing back on your debunked claim that the suggested return Minnesota would want was more than any player had received in the past 30 years. I am also saying 100% Eichel had the stain on him at the time of not knowing what Vegas was actually getting due to his injury. You know what you're getting in JEEK.
Currently however? They're not <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/786825?post_id=4584063">far off</a> in contract value and getting $8.9m in value out of a $5.25m cap hit player is a pretty sweet deal compared to $10.1m value on a $10m cap hit. Eichel puts up more points, JEEK has been a top 10 Selke nominee the last few seasons so they're just different types of players.
You still can't name another player with 5 years left that's been traded can you? Keep shifting the goalpost all you want, you could at least admit you don't know of one so we can both agree the likelihood the Wild would even consider moving JEEK is slim to none and it would take a stupid overpayment to get them to consider. The trade we're talking about is a stupid overpayment btw. Buffalo would need to be pretty dumb to do it, just like I honestly thought Vegas was insane to give up what they did for Eichel given his health but hey that seemed to work out for them so what do I know.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>I don't think the trade proposed is reasonable at all.
But it's more reasonable that what you proposed, which is really saying something.
And no, this is quite a bit more than the eichel trade. Especially at the time of the trade.</div></div>
Uhh.. how is this quite a bit more?
Mittlestadt (pending RFA) + 2 1sts + 2nd for a sure thing top 6 center with cost certainty over the next 5 years
Tuch (signed long term on a great contract) + Krebs (recent 1st round pick still young enough to not be considered a bust) + 2022 1st and 2023 2nd for a player that there was literally a chance he never played a single game for the Golden Knights if his surgery went bad.
Those are right about the same offer, with much more certainty on actually getting production out of the player you're receiving. We can argue about the value of Tuch vs. Mittlestadt or Krebs vs. a 1st we have no idea where it will land, but they're pretty close in value.
I'm glad you're at least admitting there isn't another case of a player with 5 years left getting traded in a similar situation. You're proving my point for me.

That's definitely not "way more than any player has gotten in a trade in 30 years".
The reality is that type of return is 100% what it would take to even start a conversation with Minnesota about moving a center they desperately need signed long term to a steal of a contract. They have absolutely no reason to trade him, so you would have to offer something really dumb to get them to even entertain the conversation.

The Wild wanted Reaves back last summer, but guessing they were only offering closer league minimum so don't think they'd want him at his full cap hit. Not sure where this "rumor" got started that they wanted him back.
