Time to Actually Rebuild - TDL Part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Serious question, hypothetical.
If Horvat signed a reasonable extension, say 7 million, 7 years, would Shane Wright and a 1st get it done for Horvat and a 2023 1st? Not gonna say 2024, that's just nonsense. What if the Vancouver 1st were lottery protected? Top 3 protected? Top 5 protected? If the protected picks happen, Seattle gets a 2023 2nd and an unprotected 2024 1st.
Just curious. Seattle gets to trade Shane Wright and a mid round prospect for a known commodity in his prime (high 2C) and a likely top 10 prospect this year or next (or higher depending on lottery protection).</div></div>
Not sure why Ron Francis would want to trade a franchise Centerman in Shane Wright, But yeah i'd imagine Wright and a 1st should get it done plus maybe a lesser piece going to Vancouver as well.
Zero chance i see Horvat accepting 7x7 depending if it's a sign and trade i'd imagine 8x8.5mil gets it done. But if i'm Allvin/Rutherford and Seattle really wants Horvat i don't accept anything less than Wright and a 1st and maybe a cap dump for Horvat.

This team is gonna be so good
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsPlayThatHockey</b></div><div>Are we allergic to Right Handed forwards? That is the only thing I would say about our forward core. This gives me some home and the fact are cap hell should be on the way out and we could sign an UFA. I still think we might be a little weak down the middle especially toward the bottom 6. So a larger Right Handed Center would be nice. I know they mentioned during the the draft the Yurov could possibly move to center has the skill set.
I think the addition of more Russians and hopefully competing toward a cup and a large check could keep Kirill. Got to keep the hope.
Side note I think BG has done well with keeping the team relatively competitive especially with the massive cap penalties. But I think this year will be the first true test.
One question if Kirill for some reason can’t get over does anyone know what happens? In terms of cap? Because if he can’t get over I wouldn’t mind a tank and try to get a lottery pick. And trading Dumba at the deadline.</div></div>
We have Haight who according to top analysts is a prime player to breakout in the OHL this season, he’s a right handed center who had a top 10 skill set in this draft but just didn’t put together the point production to match it so he fell to the 2nd round.
Adding Yurov and Khusnutdinov to the team within the next 2-3 could be huge in the potential re-signing of Kaprizov when his contract is up.
BG and Brackett have been doing business the right way by keeping their draft picks and stockpiling talented prospects, they’re the future of the franchise after all.
As for the Kaprizov situation, who knows if he makes it over or not, only time will tell but if he doesn’t I would assume he would stay under contract but this year of the contract would either go void or rollover into whenever he can get back over here to play, I highly doubt he will be “trapped” in Russia for long (if at all). I also think that Dumba will be traded at the deadline regardless of whether or not we are a playoff team. Everybody knows playoff teams overpay at the deadline and if you can pick up a late 2023 1st for Dumba then that’s a huge win considering how deep the 2023 draft is plus we have Addison and Faber who both will be on the team to start the 23-24 season.

Having said that it wouldn't surprise me to see a return more like the Risto trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsPlayThatHockey</b></div><div>What about trading Dumba to Columbus. They have cap space and are in need of a RD. I imagine Dumba for Corson and a second. Or something like that could possibly work. You keep Addison and look possibly to LA for RD or sign a UFA to a short term deal.</div></div>
I would do it. Not sure Columbus would. But if we move Dumba and keep Addison, we shouldn't need to look anywhere for short term help, because Addison should be able to play next season.

Keep Clarke and Faber for sure. Guys like Walker and Grans are expendable as a result, although both are quality for where they are right now. Durzi and Spence are also NHL-quality, but one might be a casualty if the right deal for a LD comes along.

He doesn’t meet the criteria to leave the CHL. That is, doesn’t turn 20 in time and doesn’t have 4 season in the WHL. His little 5 game stint as a 15 year old isn’t considered a season, since the majority of his year was spent in minor hockey.
So he just simply isn’t eligible.

Helge Grans for O'Rourke is a reasonable exchange. We don't really need Kulikov and Durzi and Spence are too far along to trade even up for O'Rourke.

Dumba Moving and Staying Competitive
I agree with you that Dumba or maybe even Fiala are the one of the two players to be moved this summer for cap space. But to base a trade on an extension rarely happens a year away from UFA. Though I think your offer by CBJ is fair, I just doubt if a signed or agreed to extension would be part of the deal.

Is Spence really worth all that? The Dumbs trade is great if Columbus agrees and if Columbus isn't on Dumba's M-NTC.
Middleton can get more. Maybe he agrees to a team friendly deal for next 3 years because he likes it here.
I agree Deslauries should be re-signed he keeps Foligno in the game, unless Duhaime hits the gym and trains to become a better enforcer.
No taxi squad next year so I'm not sure if that's your AHL rotation of guys that get call ups. My point though is that Bjugstad at that price will get claimed off waivers.

Moving Dumba to Keep Fiala
The question would be whether Pittsburg wants to trade two assets for one year of Dumba. Maybe they find someone not as good at Dumba elsewhere, maybe UFA, cheaper and keep their assets.

Is this a Playoff Team
If I’m the wild I ask for a cuelemans level prospect. Not a foudy or Bemstrom. Dumba is a solid top 4 defender who is in his prime. A first level prospect and a second is a good counter.

Why? He’s been really solid, plays top pair for us and won’t cost a fortune. Sign him to a reasonable 2 or 3 year. Move Kulikov before Middleton.
I don’t think the goalie situation will look like that, so that scavenges another million or so.

He's playing 1st pairing dman with spurgeon, and restricted free agent who will be cheap to resign. Minnesota isn't going to trade him. They literally gave up Kaapo to acquire him

Supply and Demand
I wouldn’t want to move Greig for Fiala 1 for 1 right now. Second best ppg in the W on a mid team with no help, agitator yet scored the nicest goal of any senator this year in the preseason. Getting him for 3 years on his ELC and allocating that cap space to a potential UFA like Giroux makes much more sense than flipping him (plus a high 1st) for Fiala on whatever massive contract he signs in the off-season.
I like the Reinhardt comparison for the trade but Levi was traded almost a full calendar year before he won the Richter award and the 1st that Florida sent was significantly lower than whatever Ottawa’s is projected to be next season. But specific to Levi, he was a good prospect at the time of the trade but by no means “high caliber” so expecting a high caliber prospect from Ottawa doesn’t really make a ton of sense.

Hopefully Getting Meyers - Lines
I hope they get Meyers, seems like a complete player who could be a steal as a college FA. IMO though Fiala, Benn, and possibly Bjugstad all won't be on the team next year. Deslauries hopefully comes back to be 12th/13th forward, then either Meyers or Jost plays on the other side of Boldy depending on chemisty in camp.

Keeping Fiala
This is def too much from CBJ, but it’s a good framework. Marchenko is a pretty solid prospect. His 21 year old KHL season isn’t on the level of Kaprizov, Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, etc., but he is putting up some respectable numbers. Just slightly below guys like Nichushkin and Tolvanen from a numbers standpoint.
I think if you drop the 1st to like a 3rd or 4th, and then bake in an extension for Dumba, youre really close. It’s definitely a good thought you have here.

I see him as a lite Brad Marchand tbh. He’s a gritty guy but he’s very skilled. Was one of the youngest guys in his draft year and didn’t have a really good offensive season till after his draft year. He easily could’ve gone in 2021 in the 10-12 range

Future Cap Help and Pieces for a Playoff Push
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsPlayThatHockey</b></div><div>Can you explain it then? Because I thought if we get close to the cap and put Weber on LTIR. We would get his cap hit minus our distance from the cap to form the LTIR pool. If that is the case it could allow us some relief. Well that’s what they said on the 32 thoughts podcast.
How was it debunked? I’m curious because I was get hopeful that we could keep Fiala and Dumba. Because I’m no expert on LTIR.
What do you guys think of the Seattle trade? Extra depth on offense and some help on d a big bodied defenseman could help.</div></div>
"A lot of feedback to our podcast bit about Shea Weber’s contract and whether or not it would make sense for Minnesota. The answer, according to several capologists consulted for this blog, is no — and don’t expect the Wild to do it. “You do not want to be in long-term injury, over the cap, for years and years,” one said. “There’s nothing good about that.” It prevents you from accruing space, robs you of flexibility. (I didn’t realize you can’t trade for a player on LTIR without activating him first. That would be problematic for most.) There is also the question of whether or not Minnesota could put together a full roster before putting Weber’s contract on long-term at the start of the season. So, what seemed like a creative idea was anything but that."
