That Dubois contract is absolutely terrible.
And why wouldn’t Winnipeg qualify him?

2021-2022 NHL Offseason Discussion Thread #9 - The Demise (Revival?) of Calgary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Terrible for Florida? Really? It favours Calgary for sure, as they got arguably the better player AND major adds. But taking contracts/term into account, Florida comes out pretty good. Anytime you get a 100 power forward for 8 years in his prime with a reasonable AAV you are not a loser. It’s just that Calgary won more. And Florida is getting the safer package too: Calgary could end up with only Swchwind and a 2025 first in a years time. Personally I like it a lot for both teams.</div></div>
I’m sick of “power forwards” and how much people value them. They’re not better than other players just because they’re big, and being physical isn’t very helpful at offense, and is far from the most effective way to defend. The Panthers, who <strong>need</strong> to be contenders in the short term, traded their franchise player in Huberdeau (or co-franchise player at least) for a downgrade, and they gave up a #1 defenseman, a prospect, and a 1st. It’s inconceivable.

2021-2022 NHL Offseason Discussion Thread #9 - The Demise (Revival?) of Calgary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>I don't think it is that terrible.
On a vacuum the amount they paid is massive, but the assets they gave up were peaked pending UFAs with terribly expensive contracts coming, or irrelevant assets for a contender.
If you ask me now do I take a 29 year old Huberdeau and 28 year old Weegar for one year over 24 year old Matthew Tkachuk at same cap total the answer is obviously yes. But if you ask me the same question in 3 years time, would I take a 32 year old Huberdeau and 31 year old Weegar with 6 years left in their contracts at total cap of close to $20M dollars, or a 27-year old Tkachuk at half the price, I'm 100% taking Tkachuk.
And this is assuming CGY actually is able to keep those guys, which is far from certain.</div></div>
Whether Calgary can re-sign the players or not is irrelevant. I’m just talking from a Panthers perspective.
The Panthers gave up the better player in a trade, while adding a #1 defenseman, a prospect, and a first round pick. And even if you argue that the Panthers are sacrificing now for a better future, that’s not exactly the type of move that a team that doesn’t have a 1st until 2026 should be doing. Just an absolutely atrocious move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Thats some hot takes.
Calgary doesn't need leverage they will get a better return than this because of how highly coveted a player like Tkachuk is. Another team will make a better offer because they want him more.
Also what's your basis on Dube not returning? His agent has already made a statement saying he did not partake in the incident.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div>Global News contacted David Cowan with O2K Sports Management.
Cowan said in a statement: “All of Global News’ questions will be asked and answered during the pending NHL investigation. Dillon did not engage in any wrongdoing, and he cooperated fully with the independent London Police Service investigation in 2018, through which all players were then cleared of any wrongdoing.”
The statement continued: “Naming Dillon or attempting to associate him in any way with alleged criminal wrongdoing, or alleging that he was not cooperative with the London Police or was unwilling to cooperate with Hockey Canada, will constitute materially false statements constituting defamation causing serious financial and reputational harm.”</div></div></div>
That doesn’t say that Dubé didn’t participate in the incident we all know was sexual assault. It just means that they believe he isn’t guilty of any legal wrongdoing, which is technically true until he’s charged with a crime. Only 7 out of 22 players haven’t said that they weren’t part of the incident, and Dubé was one of them, which doesn’t paint a pretty picture for him.

The Flames seem to have no leverage when it comes to moving Tkachuk, so I can’t imagine they’d get that much if they move him before the season.
Also Dubé almost certainly won’t be returning to the NHL.

2021-2022 NHL Offseason Discussion Thread #8 - Gone Fishing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>I get that you're a fan of Drouin's and want to think the best of him and that's perfectly fine.
I did base my comment on the fact that Drouin is, at least if I recall correctly, like the only active player who has taken a leave of absence from his team. Whatever he had to deal with back then is something we can't be fully sure of, but you'd have to think he had some issues that made him think he's of no importance for his own team that were actually fighting of cup that year to everyone's surprise. My guess is that the pressure around Montreal got to him and he started to question himself, but this is conjecture as I have no actual proof on what the issue was in the end.
As for why I'd like to see him play for a small market team with no much pressure on himself is to ascertain these thoughts, cuz if he can perform there even close up to his immense potential he had back when he was in his early twenties, he's gonna look like a very different player he is today.
From the young days when he requested for a trade from Tampa to the struggle of recent years, health problems and the hiatus he took it's inconceivable that he's got himself a certain "reputation" amongst hockey folks.</div></div>
Thanks for the thoughtful response.
Jo did speak on his leaving the team last year, and the reason Drouin took his sabbatical from hockey was because of anxiety and insomnia that he suffered with. <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/canadiens-drouin-easy-root-comeback-anxiety-insomnia/sn-amp/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/canadiens-drouin-easy-root-comeback-anxiety-insomnia/sn-amp/</a>
He’s a wonderful man and from all his interviews he seems to love playing in Montréal for his childhood team. (Although I recognize that he might be saying that because it’s the only thing he really can say.) But if he truly does feel that way, I really hope he can enjoy playing in Montréal for as long as he wants.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>I'm a massive Drouin to Arizona advocate.
He has great skillset but he's no good at dealing with immense pressure, so he doesn't fit to play in a hockey environment like Montreal.</div></div>
You think he can’t deal with pressure based on what exactly? If that does affect him, I absolutely hope he gets in a better situation, but there’s absolutely nothing that is public knowledge that outlines Jo’s inner thoughts, which most people don’t even have a full grip on in their own mind. So assuming someone’s mental state/triggers is extremely unhelpful and harmfully simplifying someone who you don’t know, and almost certainly never will know. Saying he’s “no good at dealing with immense pressure” may be true, but there’s absolutely no evidence that we have that it is true, and saying that can do only harm and no good.
If someone that I don’t know said that I have a huge problem with procrastination and laziness, while being a true statement, it isn’t that person’s place to comment on my mental struggles if I am not the one initiating the conversation. There may be more nuanced conversations that I didn’t try to initiate, but are started by people who know me well, which is much different than people who don’t know me at all commenting on my procrastination issues that they don’t even know for sure if I have.
And I’m sorry for sounding overly critical, since I’ve interacted with you enough to know that you mean well. This is just a kind of statement that has really frustrated me among things that hockey fans say, and I felt like saying something.
