0 dollars in cap space team how far will it go
0 Cap and no spare players the moment 1 player gets a short term injury or illness they are playing short . Your top forwards/D are good but kinda falls off for cherry picking a team.
Swap McDavid for Drais, is McDavid the better player? Sure but how much more can you improve your team with another 4 mil in cap space.
Replace Vasilevskiy/Nedeljkovic for two of Demko, Shersterkin, Markstrom that gets a really strong pair of goalies and still saves you 1.5 - 2 Mil in Cap
Just in those 2 changes you have added 6 Mill in cap space to have 2 healthy scratches and upgrade your middle 6 wingers.

I would rather have Burroughs than poolman in that final D pairing. Poolman has not had a good pre season and I think he gets demoted once Myers/Dermot are back. I think those top 9 forwards get a shuffle from what you have.
Kuz-Petey-Beoser
Podz-MIller-Garland
Pearson-Horvat-Hogs
Should be an exciting team to watch though, I dont think Van's D is as bad as everyone says it is. Just had a poor system to play under when Green was there.

Forgot he was also injured, man what a start to the season for us on injuries, adjusted for opening night. I dont think either Dickinson or Dowling deserve to hang around for a roster spot with our Forward depth. I really do like the play of Aman and think he should stay with the team until Boeser/Mikheyev come back. Adjusted to leave Rathbone down for cap compliance until we get a forward back and can swap Rathbone for Aman.

LOL it doesnt even fit you snuck Ilya into LTIR instead of Ferland to make this work swap those 2 and your over by a mil. Travis Dermot should be IR Jack Rathbone should be up in the 3rd left D slot. Poolman is an 8th Dman at best and hope he gets demoted down to Abby(If we are extremely lucky get claimed). We also have forwards to fill the gaps in the meantime enough that I wouldn't be sad if Pearson ended up getting traded this trade deadline. Alman looks NHL ready to support the 4th line he stood out more than Dickenson(Another potential for demotion to AHL once we get our players back).

Honestly if you can trade away Myers/Poolman/Pearson for Dunn then Just Extend Miller as you will have more than enough Cap space to give him 6x8.75 and still have room to extend all your other forwards next year.

Making Space to for extensions
Just picked the top couple teams from the drop down, Pearson im sure could fit on quite a few teams. Its not that Myers is underperforming to his contract its that we have enough offensive D and would prefer cheaper Defensive D to fill the right side. I image Anaheim could flip him for a better pick with 50% retention, at 3 mil he's a really good option especially with a defensive LHD as a partner

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Orango</b></div><div>Toronto instantly matches that offer. It will take over $3 million, or possibly over $4 million for Toronto to consider not matching.</div></div>
The issue for Toronto is they are already 1.5 mil over cap that would put them 4.5mil over who are they dumping to make up the difference? Really though LHD is not what Van needs, I'm also not sure on giving up a 2nd to ditch poolman just yet, Due to him missing half a season with ailments its hard to say that he just needed to adjust to a new team. He also didnt get much time under Bruce and changes he had implemented. If he is healthy this year and can be a solid stay at home D it might be a good match up for Rathbone on the 3rd line pairing. IMO Van needs to sell Myers while he has some perceived value keep the right side D cheap and defensive minded and let our left side push the Offense. Also frees up Money to Extend Miller if we can not spend on our right side.
LHD RHD
Hughes Schen
OEL Dermott
Rathbone Poolman
Burroughs
I would Also Trade Pearson, Hogs is not a 4th line player gives what could be a great energy line of Lazar Dakota and Lockwood

The Trade works(depending on the scouting of the 2 prospects I'm not very familiar with them) but I dont like the 8 Mil in UFA when next year you need to resign Horvat Hoglander Kuzmenko and Dermott and only have Dowling and Burroughs coming off the books? Only way to pick up a UFA Dman is to get rid of the Myers contract, also I would rather bury Poolman if he isnt LTIR next season hardly any cost savings from buying him out and then he eats a mil for 3 extra years when you are hopfully competing.

NUCKS
Canucks Decline NYR trade, Jersey is not in a competing window so giving up 2nd overall for a player that wont be in his prime when they are competing does not make sense, and Poolman might stay on LTIR in that case we have no need to give up an asset to trade him. Not one player you have added makes this team better than our current roster and makes our cap situation horrible the following year. And that Brock B contract never happens to little vs market value mid 6 mil over 3-4 years is what he will get.

If Karlson is NHL ready and we get Kuzmenko I think Pearson is on the outside looking in and I would be looking to trade for assets. If We don't get Kuzmenko or Karlson is not NHL ready then he slots in on 3rd line LW. If both happen Maybe Sign Richardson to a 1 yr deal as a 3rd line C

Vancouver Canucks signed Elias Pettersson (3 Years / $7,350,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>For guys like Petey bridge deals can go either way
In Vancouvers case I got a feeling they will regret bridging him and wish they had given him the 8 year term at a reasonable cap hit when they had the chance. Cap space being the main factor as Horvat, Hoglander, Miller, and Boeser will all need new deals and with the cap potentially staying flat will be an interesting 3 years for them.</div></div>
Next year Motte and Sutter Contracts come off to get Boeser his new contract and hopefully find entry level contracts to fill the Void. Rathbone hopefully see's limited time this year so we can keep him on a cheap deal for a few more years.
Year after for Miller, Horvat, Hoglander you will have the Buyouts come off the books as well as Hamonic(if hes here at that point) giving you 5.4 mill to keep Horvat and Miller Hoglander. Miller will be 30 at the start of that year so he wont be getting any Crazy increases if any.
The Following year you have Myers, Pearson, and Dickinsons Contracts Expire. Gives you almost 12 mill to give Petterson his increase, Sign Podkolzin if he does what we hope and resign Dickinson if he plays well and sign Rathbone to his 1st big contract if he develops. I would look at having Rathbone learn to play on the right wing and be a better all round player than Meyers at this point and help fill out your top 4 defenders. And Jet Woo hopefully has cracked the bottom right D as a solid Defensive D man.
Overall I think we are fine for the upcoming rounds of contracts as long as we don't get another crazy year like we did with Defense this year.

just get them signed
While I'm high on Hughes and believe he was put into way too many minutes against other teams top lines, he has not earned the right to put in the same position as some of these other contracts in the 8.5-9.5 million range. All of those players have shown to be a lot more reliable defensively while still putting up points. Last year was a really bad year for Vancouver as a whole with COVID giving pretty much no pre season and not even time for a practice over the 1st half of the shortened season. This impacted Van more than others especially on Defense where half of the Defense was not there the previous season. I believe Hughes ends up on a 3-4 year contract in the 5-6 mill range with the final season being around 8.5 so he will have a high qualifying offer as an RFA. Pettersson May get a longer Contract but again a good chance he does 3 years at 7.5 range with the last year of his contract in the 9.5 range for a qualifying offer as a RFA. With both of them running the same agent there is a lot of speculation they will both end up with the same Term of 3 yrs with a high pay in the last year to give them negotiating power for their last RFA contract.

Roster 21-22
While this does fit under the cap it leaves no space for healthy scratches, some of those good signings get picked up in waivers with no way to protect them. No flexibility for the coach to swap players if some one is having a bad stretch or an injury aside from call ups that can only happen if you send another player down or you put someone on IR. Need another 2.5 mill in cap space to have the flexibility to be a successful team.

We have a few options that might be able to make a better impact on the wing for the 12th line this year.
Matthew Highmore seemed to fit well on that 4th line for the 2nd half of the season and was not a minus player.
Will Lockwood and Jonah Gadjovich both seem to be doing well in the AHL and will have a full pre season this year to prove themselves.
Also I think you have your years mixed up on EP and QH for the $'s

Building off this season and changes to Defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>Bonuses are probably closer to 2mil. I'd also rather trade Pearson and Hamonic rather than pay to move Myers. It should also give you enough cap to sign Pulock maybe</div></div>
Putting in the worst case for bonuses.
Hamonic had no pre season and Canucks did not get 1 practice in until after their 20th game last season. He showed progression with Hughes as the season went on, and that was after Van lost Elias for the rest of the season. I'm interested to see how defensive pairs start out but do not see a good fit for Myers on this team, our entire LD are offensive minded players and Myers is a RD that is also supposed to be an offensive D, he had mixed results with Hughes, and seems to be to slow when facing rushes to be a good defensive D man and took bad penalties in the D zone.
Pearson might be a tradeable piece but Myers is the less serviceable player in my mind

Would Rather gives Hughes 3 years so we still have him as a RFA after. 4 yrs you would him right into free agency, also think 6.75 is a bit high for only 4 years given his defensive holes he still needs to fix.

Opening night lines vs SEA
Why mess with the Lotto line to start, you know you have a great thing there. Podkolzin will start on the 3rd line he already has the rep as a 200ft player and being hard to play against with Pearson and Dickinson it will be a strong shut down line that can put some points up. Let Bo get some high scoring wingers with Nils Hoglander and Garland, that line will be fast and unpredictable for where the shots are going to come from. Leaves Sutter centering Mott and Highmore/MacEwen for an energy line that does not give up a ton of chances.
Miller - Pettersson- Boeser
Garland - Horvat - Hoglander
Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin
Motte - Sutter - Highmore/MacEwen
OEL - Myers
Hughes - Hamonic
Rathbone - Poolman

Vancouver Canucks signed Jason Dickinson (3 Years / $2,650,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenkins</b></div><div>The break even is at 7-8 players for each team .... the top 7-8 contracts + buyouts next season are roughly equal between Toronto and Vancouver.
Toronto then begins to take the lead as you slide down the depth ....
<strong>Deal with it brotha. </strong></div></div>
So when you take TO's top 9 paid forwards and Top 4 paid D-Men they have spent 68.52 Mill on those 13 Players.
If you take Vancouvers Top 8 Forwards and Top 3 D they have spent 46.08 Mill on those 11 Players, giving Van almost 22.5 Mil to spend on Hughes/Petterson to round out the same player totals.
Most estimates are Hughes for 6ish years at 7.5-8 Mill and Pety on 3 years for around 7.5-8 Mill on the high side that is 16 Mil for both players putting Van at about 6.5 Mil less on their top 4 D and Top 9 Forwards. I don't know were your math comes from but TO is heavy even when its top 13. Now we get down to those last 3 forwards and 2 D, TO spent 5.5 Mil and Van spend 5.9 Mil so your spent .4 mil less but lets not forget the extra 6.5 mil Vancouver has. so now on our entire roster we have spent 6.1 Mil less and I would say have a more complete lineup on forwards and comparable D (Better D if OEL works out for us).
Last Spot is Goalies, Van has spent about a mil more for I would say an arguably better Duo in net.
So in total TO has spent 79.5 mill on 12 F 6 D and 2 G. and then have 1.2 mill tied up in Kessel. Leaving only enough space to have either 1 spare forward or D left as a scratch.
Vancouver has spent 75.5 on 12 F 7D and 2G (based on 16 mill in contracts for Pety and Hughes). They have 3.6 mill in dead cap and then 3.5 Mil in LTIR Leaving enough space to have 2 F and 1 D scratch and not even touch the LTIR from Ferland and still have $500k to spare.
So you are running 1 spare player and no scratches really and are right up on your cap. Van technically could add another 4 mil of contracts during the season and be fine(more come trade deadline). Van have the better lineup with the flexibility to swap out their young players to help develop them.

Hamonic is not getting 1.5 reported to be between .8 and 1.2 mil.
You bury Erikson and Benn on your Taxi squad to save some more cap space, your gonna need every cent with those bonus' coming at the end of the year.
Sutter on IR? I have not seen anything to support that. Or did you mean to have him on the wing for your 4th line as you are missing one there? canucks usually Dress 7 defenders so a Raferty could slot in as your extra D getting him time on that 3rd pairing.
