It would probably be around 1st and either Lapierre or Iorio as Miller to the Caps would be a pure rental

Holy overpay.

Caps needed Miller before free agency - now they don't. Because of this, the price (for the Caps) has diminished. It would probably be Lap, Eller, and a 2nd (maybe conditional 1st if Caps go to cup etc)...

Yes I know that is probably underwhelming

Debrincat trade plummeted the trade value for Miller, and you can't really create a bidding war anymore with all these teams finding 2Cs in free agency. Vancouver's options are now possible Washington, Colorado and Carolina. But all three seem pretty content with the options they have now, so you're not getting two good prospects, a first and a second for a one year rental.

Strome is a astronomically large downgrade to Miller. Caps aren’t contending with him as a 2C if even Chicago didn’t want him

Honestly if you can trade away Myers/Poolman/Pearson for Dunn then Just Extend Miller as you will have more than enough Cap space to give him 6x8.75 and still have room to extend all your other forwards next year.

Lol - whatever you say big guy. Sorry Canucks waited until all 2c slots are filled and the price has dropped big time...No need to get mad though. 10 times outta 10, I'd take Strome on a 1 year $3.5 mil compared to overpaying with top prospects and a 1st in next years draft that will be very deep for a rental.

I think the Caps will be more than fine this year with Strome as 2c - 22 goals 26 assists while not playing a full season / being on a bad Hawks team is not too shabby

Contending team rather have a third liner in a crucial top 6 role rather than a proven player who put up 99 points. I’m sure you’ll be super happy with your decision

Give me examples of a third liner (center) who put up 20+ goals and 25+ assists while playing under 70 games...

And nonetheless, the price of Miller is not close to that...

Not saying he’s a bad player but certainly isn’t a solution for a contender

Not sure how you can say that...he is an adequate 2c (with potential to be very solid) for a team that has very good forwards. First off, you said a third liner. I think we both know that is not true.

Find me more than 10 2c from last year that had over 20+ goals and 25+ assists while playing under 70 games...

I don’t see how playing under 70 games is anything to be proud about. It’s actually a bad thing

List of 2C who scored more points than Strome in around 70 games:

Sam Bennet
Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Bo Horvat
Ryan Strome
Josh Norris
Nico Hischier
Brock Nelson
Mark Scheifele
Robert Thomas
Nazem Kadri

Those are 10 players who scored more points than Dylan Strome in around 70 games. None of those are 1C, they are all 2C. I can find many many many many many more centers that produced at a higher rate than Dylan Strome. He’s not a bad player but he isn’t as good as you think he is

1) 7 out of 10 were on a playoff team. Dylan Strome was on a garbage team and still put up good numbers.
2) He costs less than every single player on that list. Reason I bring this up: Caps are against the salary cap - he is an adaquate 2c who is not expensive. Which brings me back to my original point - He costs $3.5mil for 1 year, is young, has more potential, will be surrounded by solid wingers and veteran leadership, and most importantly, he does not cost an overpay of a 1st, and top prospects, like Miller "does"

So for you to say a guy who had 22g and 26a is a "third liner" and isn't good enough to play on a contending team that has solid wingers is laughable...

There are tonnes of centers who produced at a better pace than him. I only listed those players because you limited it to arohnd 70 games. I also never said he isn’t good enough to play on a contender. I said that he is not good enough to be a key player on a contender. He would be a very good 3C in Washington, but if they want to make it past the first round, they need an elite center

They have an elite center - it is Kuzy. But I guess you mean two elite centers. I somewhat, kinda, I guess understand your point. I guess it is an agree to disagree situation here. Caps don't have enough money to "buy" a free agent like the ones you listed above. They shouldn't overpay on a player like Miller (a rental). Strome is a huge upgrade on what we had last year (including Backy at this point). He doesn't cost more than $3.5mil. He puts up points and is young.

I think you will be surprised at how he does on a contending team with that added motivation.
