Like I said don’t watch many kings games. I agree his contract sucks. No one (maybe McDavid) is worth 11 mil. Especially for that many years. But he’s still a top D. Especially on the kings

I’m torn on this one. Just because I feel so uncertain where the kings will be at next year. If that first ends up being a top 3 pick I’d be bummed but if it was 10 -20 I’d be much more ok with that.

No way Avs give up Makar for Doughty. He’s way too young and cheap with too much upside. That Doughty contract would kill that team. Avs are loaded for years to come. I think the kings won’t be free agent players for another 2 years if at all. The number of prospects they will have after this year will be incredible

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHABOiCanucks99</b></div><div>Yeah. Also if he was picked 7th then he would have played for Chicago. Imagine the Chicago dynasty + Kopitar?</div></div>
That would be nuts!!!! It’s crazy to look at some of these past drafts and realize what could have been with some teams and also how many first rounders really never pan out. Then you look lower and find guys like Letang, Quick, Vlasic, Yandle, Oshie etc etc. so hard to gauge players that young. Not only do you have to scout their talent but their drive, their mental makeup, their life away from the rink etc. Even top guys like Crosby could very easily turn into Alex Daigle. Such a crap shoot.

Yes the guy is way underrated. If he played in NYC or Toronto I think he would have been talked about a lot more. I think a lot of people respect him but I still don’t think people realize how good he really is a both ends of the ice.

Compliance Buyout Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>1) Not really....if you can't comprehend the value of having 5 mil in cap space ask Toronto - 6 mil in cap space was worth a 1st rounder to them lol. Imagine being Anaheim in a rebuild and saying "nah we'd rather hold on to David Backes than get a 1st rounder from a team bumping up against the cap ceiling,"
2) I think a rebuilding team like LA is much more worried about being able to sign guys like Villardi, Kupari, Kaliyev, Fagemo, Turcotte, and Bjornfoot to long term deals 3-4 seasons from now than they are worried about who is going to be on their defense next year when 5/6 of this year's defense was rookies and AHL players anyway. Doughty's contract is untradeable today, I can't really imagine tomorrow...this compliance buyout is a gift from above and I think a smart front office like LA won't blink at the opportunity.</div></div>
No way Doughty gets bought out! He’s still a top D. Anyone that says he’s not doesn’t watch many kings games. By the time the kings need to resign Vilardi, Kaliyev, Turcotte etc etc to big deals Brown, Carter, Quick, and Prob Kopi will all be off the books by the time money is an issue. Kings could get 3 or 4 more good years easy out of Doughty and buy him out Later and it wouldn’t cost them but like 3.5m against the cap. Cap won’t be an issue in LA for quite some time. Blake has even stated many times that they are building the kids around Doughty and Kopitar

Don’t think the kings make that trade. They are loaded at center so Kerfoot doesn’t make sense. Walker is much better then Dermott imo and they won’t trade picks unless it’s for a great return. Bracco has yet to show he can stay in the league. I love wagners speed, he doesn’t score a lot but he creates a lot of chaos with his speed. Rather keep walker, Wagner and the pick

Yeah I’d be ok with that. But Walker, Roy and Mcdermid aren’t rookies anymore. In fact they are all about the same age as Hutton. Although Hutton does have quite a few more NHL games played. But yeah I’d be ok with 1 more vet type as long as its not a stupid long contract.

Before Clifford was traded I would have absolutely agreed. Now I’m not so sure. They have a young forward group and most would have to clear waivers to go down. Clifford would be taking a spot from a kid. Maybe if Carter gets traded they would bring Clifford back.

So many hard choices. This summer, next trade deadline and the days leading to the expansion draft are gonna be real exciting with teams making moves to try and set up to protect their best guys

One thing I know is a lot of teams are gonna be hard pressed to protect all the guys they want. This team is gonna end up like Vegas. Could be a very good team. A lot of teams are either gonna have to leave quality guys exposed or make trades a la Vegas to protect those guys. There are so many quality players now a days in this league it is amazing. I remember when Ottawa and Ducks etc etc came into the league they were guaranteed to be horrible. That’s not the case anymore the talent level is amazing!!!

welcoming input on a new trade idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>I feel like Carter needs to go, and if you can get a top 4 defenseman out of it, then it's a steal. Matheson truly is a top 4 defenseman, just needs a restart. He will do more immediately than Carter. I can replace Mac with a 4th or mid round pick.
I don't think kings fans understand that if Iafallo is not signed, you are losing him for nothing. He could be the best guy in the world but not return to the team. What would you rather, 20 more games of the guy or a potential long term asset?</div></div>
Don’t think Iafallo is gonna walk but I do agree if the kings knew he was and you could get a first absolutely. Don’t think he’s gonna be hard to sign though. Don’t think anyone is gonna want Carter, age and contract. Don’t think he’s been as bad as everyone has said. Like I’ve said on other posts he was right with Toffoli for goals. Only issue I see is a few guys like Grundstrom and luff would have to clear waivers so my only concern would be losing young guys to keep carter

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bf3351</b></div><div>That's great. He's a center. We have too many centers. Turcotte, Vilardi, JAD, and Lizotte will all probably be full time players for the Kings next year. We already must likely have to move Vilardi to RW. Kings weakest parts in the pipeline, defense and wing.</div></div>
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is maybe moving Kopi to wing as the prospects move up and take over. He played wing a bit when you came in maybe as he declines move him back to wing. Vilardi has to stay at center. I think Turcotte starts in ahl. But both have a long way to go before they force Kopi out as top center. But I agree we need some top wingers on this team

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bf3351</b></div><div>These are all interesting trades, but I don't think they make much sense for the Kings. Matheson is taking away spot from Bjornfot/Anderson/Clague. Carter still gets us 20 goals and I will literally cry if we ever trade MacDermid. Iafallo may have gotten 50 points if the season didn't end so trading a guy that is progressing 10 points every season isn't very smart. I wouldn't mind having Wood, but I like Wagner a lot. Moore-Lizotte-Wagner makes a great 4th line. I think Wood 'wood' cost a lot more though.</div></div>
Wait did you just defend Iafallo lol. Completely agree. Don’t see the need for any of those trades from the kings point of view

Think Thomas and Fagemo should move up. Walker, Frk, Wagner off if Lizotte , Roy aren’t prospects the others shouldn’t be. There’s also a bunch of guys not on there like Kaliyev, Hults, Spence, Shafrigulin, Ingram, Parik, Nousiainen and prob a few I’m forgetting that I think if your adding madden you gotta add these guys. But nice list. We are stacked, the future looks very bright

I could see the kings in the playoffs next year. Assuming Peterson and Quick play well, I think our D and system looked great the second half of the season, a few prospects take a step forward but I think Vilardi could be the key to this teams future. There is just something special about that kid. Pucks find him, he’s got amazing hands, can finish etc, if he can keep his back issues at bay, get in top shape, and just slightly improve his skating he could end up being our main guy. He basically didn’t play for 2 years and couldn’t train, comes back in what like November after training for a month, plays a handful of ahl games looks dominant then moves up to kings and shows quite a few flashes of brilliance. If he can do that off the couch Makes me wonder what he could be with a solid couple of years under his belt

They won’t buy out either. Doughty is still a top D. Is he worth 11 mil(who is) prob not but they aren’t hurting for cap space! Quick is the perfect mentor for Peterson. Carter is the only one they may buy out. Other then that the kings are good with their rebuild. If I’m Blake I take on gourde or Johnson from Tampa for a high pick or top prospect then buy him out. I think Carter could be traded with retention. People don’t realize he was on pace with toffoli for goals when Tyler was traded.

I think at the trade deadline he may fetch a first. Offseason probably not. Don’t see the kings trading him though. He’s a very important guy moving forward. Kid works his tail off. Great example for the younger kids. He’s got some skill to go with it too
