I am guessing you are saying, "if we trade for one goalie, I don't see the point in trading for <em>another</em> one"
The Anaheim and Calgary trades options. We'd do one or the other. Idea was to find a veteran 3C and cheaper goalie as back-up in same package.</div></div>
Sorry, meant to say that if we sign a goalie then no point in trade. They are definitely so cheap options, I’m just hoping that Fitz actually fixes the issue and gets a good goalie.

I like the Boeser trade! I think the value is really close and could see something like this being the actual trade or close to.
I wouldn’t have any interest in Stolarz or Vladar. I don’t think they solve the goaltending issue all that much and if we are going to trade for a goalie I’d rather one of Washington’s goalies. However if we trade for a goalie then I don’t see a point in trading for one.
For 3C, I’d let Boq try it out for most of the rest of the season. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him recently so I think I’d just let him try for the 3C job before trading for an expensive 3C.

I’ve seen this idea before and I don’t think it makes much of any sense for NJ unless it was part of a bigger trade. Also I think Bratt is better than Boeser (minus the scoring).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>The hockey world definitely knows who Gritsyuk is. Really, ever since he played in WJC a couple of years ago. He has been one of the best young players in KHL this year and just keeps getting better and better. Honestly, I think you are taking draft position too much into account here. He has been putting up numbers that rival guys like Kucherov, Panarin (not saying he will become those guys). And you know Kaprizov was a 5th rounder too.
As for Boeser price. His pending RFA status is an enormous factor in his selling price. Give me one comp of a pending RFA that returned returned a top-5 pick and an A prospect (or even a 5th round prospect if that’s how you see Gritsyuk).
The comps I have been using:
Reinhart - late 1st and Levi
Buchnevich - 2nd and Blais
Pacioretty - 2nd, B-prospect, Tatar
I think those are fair.</div></div>
I have no idea where you think I said NJ should trade their 2022 first rounder but you are incredibly mistaken. You really need to know your facts before saying things.
It seems like I offended you saying Gritsyuk is a fifth rounder which is a complete fact by the way. I like Gritsyuk but I’m not going to compare him to Panarin, Kaprizov, or Kucherov. Like let’s be realistic here. He isn’t even NJ top prospect or second best prospect lol. He’s a good prospect. Top 5 in NJ system. But I know he isn’t going to be the next Panarin or whatever.

I mean there is risk for both sides there, no? And 5th round doesn't mean much. The world knows who he is now.</div></div>
I highly doubt the world knows who Gritsyuk is. It’s not like he is a top 30 prospect in the league.
There is obviously risk with Boeser but it’s not because he is an RFA. And to assume NJ would acquire him without at least talking to his agent to make sure that he would be interested in signing long term is just silly.
To assume you could get Boeser for just Gritsyuk and no picks is laughable. Unfortunately you are going to be severely sad if NJ gets Boeser.
Stop overvaluing NJ players and prospects.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>Indeed. But say the NJ deals the 2023 1st to VAN in exchange to Boeser as Top10 protected one, and NJ still remains in the bottom-10, then the following pick because of that is likely 2024 1st. Which would have to be an unprotected one. I don't see VAN accepting a deal where they'll only get the pick once NJ gets to the playoffs. And given their status it still might take a while.
I think lottery protection is the best you can do. At the highest the pick is going to be third overall.</div></div>
I would happily give a 2024 unprotected first rounder for Boeser. Just not 2022 because of NJ’s current standings and not 2023 because of how deep and talented that draft is.
In my description I mentioned a top 10 protected first round pick and I think a top 10 protected 2023 1st rounder would be the most ideal pick for both teams.

I also don't see a fit with Zacha anyways they need a RHD center not another LHD one. Boeser is also playing at a 39 goal and 67 point pace under Boudreau. You also bring up injuries but aside from COVID he hasn't missed any games since 2019-2020. His qualifying offer is also actually under 7.5mil and as long as he's willing to sign long term (which it sounds like he is) I would have no problem giving him. That package just isn't enticing enough to move Boeser.</div></div>
Then I would want NJ to look elsewhere than Boeser. If they are going to trade an unprotected first round pick of Holtz, they need to get a better player than Brock Boeser.

The reason why Gritsyuk does not have as much value as Boeser is because there’s no guarantee that Gritsyuk ever comes over to North America. There’s risk with a prospect like Gritsyuk and unfortunately he is a former 5th rounder and unfortunately that does play a factor.

Honestly I think Zacha, Walsh, and a 1st may not even be enough for Boeser…

I would be willing to bet this will not be the opening night roster. Devils desperately need a top 9 forward and one of Blackwood/Bernier won’t be back next season.
This free agency has a lot of great top 9 forwards that I could see Devils target. Reilly Smith, Valeri Nichushkin, and Andre Burakovsky come to mind. Hertl, Gaudreau, and Forsberg if they want to go big name hunting.
For goalies, they could target Husso, Kuemper, or Campbell in free agency or trade for a goalie.
This definitely will not be the opening night roster.

Yeah I’m a big Boqvist believer too. Would love to see it Mercer or Boqvist could stick at winger and use the other as 3C (preferably Mercer at wing).
I do really like Lambert would love if Devils got him and Gritsyuk has me super excited. The Devils prospect pool is seriously deep.

I highly doubt Lambert is going to be NHL ready next season. I would’ve tried to sign a free agent winger instead.

That Husso contract could look really bad real quick. Huge risk signing him to that.
I would like the way Boqvist has been playing and would rather keep him.

I would rather keep Johnsson and Blackwood. Having them on the team helps us a lot more than a 5th and 3rd round picks.
I wouldn’t sign Trochek. Would rather someone such as Nichushkin who would cost cheaper and still add plenty of production.
Not sure what happened to Zacha but if we are getting Garland, I’m pretty confident Zacha would be one piece going the other way.
I’d rather Kuemper over Campbell but I can see the argument for Campbell.

Smith as the primary piece coming back doesn't work for the Canucks. We already have Hughes as a smaller LHD who fills his role and Rathbone who is the same player as Smith playstyle wise. Smaller LHD are the last thing we need.
I've offered this one before and other Devils fans have been receptive: Garland for 1st 2023 (top-8 protected) + McCarthy + maybe something else (mid round pick or B- prospect)</div></div>
I would likely say yes to that as a Devils fan. Maybe make it too 10 protected and Devils throw in someone like Zetterlund or Moynihan

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>“I am being realistic”…”I am lowballing”…at least you corrected yourself on that.
Ritchie would cost a pick to move, so you are valuing Severson at B+ prospect and a 2nd round pick. A top-4 d-man on a very good contract for two years. Risto got more than that for 1-year. Even Savard got a 1st for a few months. Severson is a lot better than either of those two.
The Devil need solid play on their blueline for next two years a lot more than they need a 2nd round pick and Niemela.</div></div>
I mean if you are going to use quotations then at least use them properly lol. I said “I’m trying to be realistic” not “I am being realistic” and I said “I probably lowballed” not “I am lowballing”. At least do the minimum dude.
But yeah I agree. Probably would be something like a first, second and a third, instead of two seconds. Or take Ritchie out of the trade and have it be Sevo for Niemala, 1st rounder, and something smaller like a 3rd.
Though I do disagree with keeping Severson just because we need a solid defender. I like Severson a lot, but if a good offer comes for him, I’m taking it. This season is what it is so it’s really just next season you’ll have to worry about and also I worry about signing a 29 year old Severson to a long contract.
