Gaudreau gives you, like, 85% of what Kerfoot gives you at 1/3 the cost. I can't see the Wild doing you the favor of taking on the extra $2.3M in cap without Toronto adding something to make it worth their while.

I don’t think the Wild move on from Gaudreau, but he is by no means untouchable.</div></div>

I really think Kerfoot is the much more proven commodity. Gaudreau has never done anything close to the season he had last year and for the wild to extend him based off that season I think would be a larger risk than Kerfoot. I do think he will regress points wise but can offer Toronto the role of being a more traditional center rather than a winger who can fill in at center. I do agree the cap savings is valuable to Toronto as it allows Sandin to fit in on a 1 year deal. I agree with you guys but I think the value is close.

I have a feeling Petrovsky, Healey and Haight will be the biggest risers this year and I think Faber will be able to make a jump in his offensive production</div></div>
Yeah I could definitely see those 3 having pretty good years. Faber I think will definitely pop a bit more offensively, if for no other reason than the Gophs should be pretty lethal.
The blue chippers stories are obviously intriguing too. Yurov essentially getting press-boxed in the KHL last year was complete BS - so it'll be fun to see him get some consistent TOI. Ohgren coming off a ridiculous J20 season now moving into Allsvenskan to try and bring them out of relegation.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kado777</b></div><div>Agreed, that is a good point. Definitely could get quite the haul at the deadline for Kerfoot 50% retained and Dumba 50% retained to contenders if things aren’t going well. My worry is the Wild look like a decent playoff team and ride out the season then we suddenly lose control of both Dumba and Kerfoot following a early exit. It wouldn’t be the end of the world with how well Guerin and Brackett have done to maximize their value from picks, just would sting a bit losing decent value for nothing but that is the price you pay trying to compete in the NHL.</div></div>
Yeah I think us being a bubble/low playoff team and riding out expiring contracts is a very real possibility. As you said, it's not the end of the world, but it's certainly not my preference. I guess we'll see.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kado777</b></div><div>It also is important if Guerin thinks he can keep Kerfoot around beyond this season. At this price, we could probably get someone like Kapanen, who we could get at this cap hit or less and also have under contract for a year or two more than Kerfoot. Sure, I would rather have Kerfoot on my team but if its between 1 year of Kerfoot at 3.5m for a 3rd or 3 years of Kapanen at 3m for a 3rd I am going with Kapanen</div></div>
All depends on what he wants. Kerfoot would have value at TDL, so worst case scenario, you could use him as a loaner. It'd be easier to move a pending UFA in Kerfoot with 50% retention than it would be to move 3 years of Kapanen. I get that argument for cost certainty through the heavy cap years, but it's overhyped IMO. The Goose signing is an example of that.
I get your point though and it's valid. I just don't think we should be giving ourselves tunnel vision for cap certainty.

I’d do a swap and get a third team to retain for a mid pick like you said. He’ll probably come in around 2.5-3 I’d imagine.

Bear has the value of like a 3rd round pick id imagine. Kulikov I’ve seen traded for a 4th. A 1 for 1 swap wouldn’t be horrible for either. Maybe minny adds a later round/AHL player

I’m thinking the market is not right for him rn and he takes a 1 year to light it up and win a cup then go cash in next free agency…essentially moving back his big UFA payday 1 year

If it was a prospect like hirvonen or voit they might consider it but knies is a prospect so valuable to this team because of his position and type of player, there are maybe 10 players in the league I would move knies for (not saying he's the next best player) it's just we are in dire need of LW prospects and guys who use their body and knies does both.

Might as well toss that TO deal out the window, they are loaded with up front talent therefore have no need for Greenway and a Talbot comparable can be found via free agency with no assets leaving TO

Talbot and Greenway aren't that great. Knies would not be included in a trade with either. I still don't think Malkin would take that much of a cut, even with the reasoning you provided especially with giving another UFA in Nuichuskin more money. That being said, he won't be able to resign with them for the next two years without taking a cut, so he probably goes elsewhere and gets a 3 year deal.

Wild Trade Candidates for 2022-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kado777</b></div><div>My only issue with waiting on Addison or Faber is that could result in dumba leaving in FA if you wait too long. i think Faber is sound enough defensively that he is probably a safe bet to be at worst a low end 3rd line rd. I also think with how deep the Wild are at D prospect, they could get away with one of the LD prospects and playing Goligoski or Kulikov on the right side if it comes down to it. I think its easier for them to make something work than it would be to try to milk it out for too long, but I understand your thought on it.</div></div>
Addison should get his shot this year, personally I think he will be very similar to Tyson Barrie in that he will be a PP QB who skates well but isn't the guy you rely on defensively

A 6x6 extension would definitely peak my interest. I'm not sure what the deal would look like but I'm sure something could be structured around Dumba and #7.

Wild Trade Candidates for 2022-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kado777</b></div><div>Is that the going price for Greenway/Knies? I actually have a trade in the drafts of Greenway for Knies but I wasn’t sure what to add or take away. I know Toronto would be looking to shed cap, so I feel like we would either need to take Kerfoot, Holl, Mrazek or they would have to be moved in advance. If thats what we could get for Greenway, I would do it right now and either try to sign Nichushkin or trade for Iafallo at the right price to complete that Ek and Foligno line. I would also like to get Robertson if that was possible</div></div>
I think Knies and taking back Mrazek and maybe a draft pick would do. We are taking back more cap and getting a prospect that can fill out the middle of the roster. I think a 3rd would do. It will also help us with a back up for a season. Not sure if Toronto fans would be in favor of this move but it gives them a guy now to win and takes a contract away to sign cheaper. I think it's a good move for them but they love Knies as well.

I just don't think it's worked here and a new environment might do the trick. This whole roster has underachieved and Dumba has been here for the entire ride. Brodin is another. Spurgeon is another. Those 3 have been around for the Parise and Suter era and not being able to get it done. That's half our D-core and they have all shown break downs at different times in the playoffs. We need some new and fresh blood on the back end and we have some great prospects coming up. I want to see what Addison can do in a season. He's played well for us in his short stints. Lambos has developed really well and has some great upside on the left side. I don't like log jamming the left side up with long term deals. Brodin is on a 6 year deal. They have Merrill on a 3 year deal and soon to be signing Middleton. A Dumba move allows the core to retool over the cap hell years. Addison deserves a shot. If he doesn't turn out to be the guy we think he can be, we have Faber and can trade Addison. But Addison deserves a shot.</div></div>

All indications are they’re not re-signing Dumba so a trade now or at the deadline seems likely. Fan value on Dumba seems much great than actual value for Dumba. BG has tried to trade Dumba for over 2 years and hasn’t found a taker.
