Retention is just brutal it make absolutely no sense for Habs to Retain salary on a 26 years old centerman who would attract interest already at 4,5millons.

4 years of Crosby is honestly probably not far off in value from 2 years of MacKinnon.
I think any of us would take the latter, but I'd think Pens would want something similar to what Avs would want for their guy.

I think he would excel there.
Played very well as 1st line LW with Nico (18 pts in 17 games).
Two solutions: find a 3rd party that can offer a young d-man for Rielly so we can flip him. Or trade Matthews and Marner to us. Either work.

Right. There's a lot of moving parts that have to work to get him to stay, the most important of which is he can't ask for more than $4.5M.

Yeah, no way he comes in at $7M but I could see $5.25x5 as a possibility. Goalies are super tough to sign to long-term deals, for sure, even the young ones (hi there, Carter Hart).

<a href="/users/coga16" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@coga16</a> has Graves covered and is right. The Avs aren’t signing Montour. The top 4 next season is already set with Byram who was playing exceptionally before getting cheap shot by Kolesar (oh how VGK fans have selective memories). In addition Montour isn’t the type of dman they would look at if they lost Graves in XD. Also if they lost Graves AND moved on from Compher there is no way they aren’t bringing Saad back. Also the Grubauer contract seems to be either to long by a year or to much $ (I think the Avs real breaking pt with Grubauer is term a 5yr deal takes him to almost 35 and I don’t think they have any interest in having that). You’ve done a creative ACGM but there are a lot of moves that aren’t necessary when just bringing back existing players will do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>Didnt you read the essay I wrote.... Jesus I even specified it in the trade description. Cmon man</div></div>
I did. Honestly Flyers f*cked the Preds with that offer sheet. But you can't undone something that is done a long time ago.
Point being, should Weber retire, there's virtually no reason for Habs to demand anything more than a 5th rounder from Preds. Your way of doing things is tantamount to Bergevin proverbially abusing Poile's situation - something that professional GMs wouldn't ever do honestly. Especially when there is absolutely zero to gain.
No GM would ever commit a deal with Habs should they go this kind of route.

Hes probably going to get a 4 year deal, he was good for the Avs in the regular season, good for them in the playoffs, he delivered in what the Avs got him for, all his underlying numbers were showing iwht his shot generation that he will excel in an elevated role...he did just that.
Avs got a 2nd line wingers for magic beans from the Capitals, why would they trade him for a low impact prospect for them next year and a 1st...that is not what the Avs would be looking for

Pulock and Murry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Josh4</b></div><div>I see what your saying, my only concern is that since the cap is not going up, more then likely there will be more teams trying to move salary out then take it on so those trades may be harder to make then in the past. This could play out either way for NYI.</div></div>
I agree , which is why I think there’s a very small chance isles will be able to move out cap dumps like boychuk and ladd.
The flat cap affects the trade values of certain players , which is why like I said the isles will have to essentially trade them for nothing. It’s terrible asset management , but the isles have to do whatever it takes to retain their 3RFAs.
This one account on twitter who is right on almost every trade/signing said that isles will receive many calls on Leddy and he can possibility return a 2nd. I don’t think that’s the case , but we’ll see. I see Leddy (750 kretained) for a 4th or 5th rd pick.
Cizikas would be the easiest to move. High end 3C with 1 year left at 3.35 mill. One of the best shutdown centers in the league , drives play offensively as well. I don’t think the isles want to move him, but if they can’t dump other contracts, they’ll have to take the loss. They’ll take the loss on trades for vets, but not their top pairing RHD.

Pulock and Murry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Josh4</b></div><div>I see Pulock asking for somthing around 5-5.5mill short term, similar to Mcavoy. NYI have 9 mill to sign Barzal and fill out there roster (they do have depth players to come up) so i cant see guys like ehlers or Boeser fitting under the cap either. Even buying out Ladd only saves them around 750k, his cap hit is 4.8M next year if they buy him out. I just think it'll be hard for Lou to fit Pulock in without Pulock or Barazal taking taking a pretty big home town discount. Also don't know if MTL or the flyers would be interested as there defence is pretty solid. Leafs would have a hard time making it work.
I kinda feel like NYI may have to trade him and will proably lose the trade if they do but it's not ideal for them at all.</div></div>
I don’t see isles trading pulock and if they did, they definitely should be able to get an A prospect +. He’s a 25 year old top pairing Dman with RFA rights. I see pulock signing for 6 mill x 5
This cap crunch will force will force the isles to lose good players for essentially nothing, but the 3RFAs are the priority so they’ll be re-signed.
On this site, Leddy is a controversial trade piece. Some think he’s a cap dump, others think he’s with a 2nd or 3rd, and then some think isles will have to trade him for a 6th/7th rd pick. Most likely the isles will have to retain 500-750 k, but he’s a solid 2nd pairing Dman and the isles will be able to move him.
Leddy (750 k retained) + cizikas trade + clutterbuck buyout gives the isles roughly 18 mill to sign their 3 RFAs and that’s with the isles ELC players filling roles.

I'd say if the Isles know they can't retain Pulock they're requesting Lassi Thomson in return. They'll need a guy who could be a top 4 for the future at the RD to replace Pulock for the future.
