Recent Rumours
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jangle29</b></div><div>I think Bracco is enough for the Marleau dump. He has a bit of value still, its not like the zero Datsyuk type situation. I think Arizona would be all over that. Marner is still high and I dont think he even sniffs the 10s on an 8 year deal I dont care what the media says.
I love the "balancing" idea, keeps people from blowing the place up with "HEY YOU CANT DO THATYOUCANTTRADEHIMRABBLERABBLE"</div></div>
I'm unsure on Bracco's NHL value at 5v5, so I added a pick. Whether its necessary or not idk, but if I'm Dubas I'll give it if necessary. I think Marner gets that number because I do think there are teams out there willing to give him anything under the 10.5 threshold (which results in 4 1st rounders as compensation), so Toronto has to match. Out of curiosity, what would the "balancing" look like in your eyes for the Pesce-Kappy trade? Who gets more, who gets less?

Please tell me why not. The hope is Liljegren becomes a slightly better version of what Miller already is. Vegas needs the future of Liljegren because they can't afford Miller in the present, and the leafs need an RHD right now. makes sense imo

Matthews is also a centre which is far more valuable, and din't play with John Tavares. He played a lot of the year without Willie too. The bets player on his wing was Kapanen for much of the year

Realistically, I see no reason why Marner should agree with any deal below $10,5M AAV.</div></div>
The answer is because no one will offer him 10.5. Anyone who does, and Marner signs with him, would have to give Toronto FOUR first rounders. The leafs would take those picks and run away as fast as they could, and use the money to sign someone else. Remember Marner is an RFA, not UFA. Toronto not only has right of first refusal, but compensation if he walks

Marleau Gets Orpiked
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>That is called collusion... you just effed the Leafs.
This is why marleau can’t be orpik’d. The nhl investigated caps and Avs and there was no proof of collusion. With marleau there is no benefit to a buyout what so ever.
If they got away with this O would be happy but very surprised.</div></div>
It is not collusion, because the Sens do not HAVE to buyout Marleau. They just lose their first if they do (they'll buy out Marleau). Not collusion.

Marleau Gets Orpiked
2 reasons:
1) They meet the salary cap floor. Assuming Stone/Duchene/Dzingel walk, they need to acquire big contracts to meet the floor. This allows them to do it without spending a lot of cash, only 1.5 mil in cash, and the 6.5 in cap price gets them to the floor
2) We are paying them to do it. They aren't gonna use that cap space for anything in a rebuild anyways. Accumulate picks, draft young players, get the rebuild going right.

How Muzzin Fits into NEXT Years Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Excellent work. 5 stars :)
Why didn't you go all the way and identify who the LRD would be? Girardi? Lovejoy?
Sadly, I disagree with your strategy though. I would prefer to keep my defense squad above average and get rid of Nylander. He wont deliver on his new contract but will get you excellent return with his new AAV. With so much offensive weapons, you can afford it and keep the prospect mill turning...
Again PIT proved you can win a cup with a below average defense. Maybe you are right...
Also i don't think Matthews/Marner will accept any discount. And TOR will want to lock them as long as possible, 8 years. Why let them go UFA 2 years early? Doesn't make any sense, even if Pierre Lebrun talked about that option...</div></div>
Appreciate the compliments, I'll respond to each part of your reply individually.
1) I didn't identify the LHD because I don't know each one well enough to pick one I thought fit. I trust Dubas to make that judgement call. Also leaves room for people like you to make evaluations of your own. Who do u think fits in that spot?
2) I'm personally strongly opposed to trading Willie. I think he will rebound and be the great winger he once was. But the idea of trading a winger is one I am not scared of, my preferred player to leave would be Kapanen. I personally do not endorse trading for the LHD, but if it had to be done I'd do it with Kappy, not Willie
3) I don't think Matthews or Marner will accept discounts, nor do I think the leafs want to give them shorter deals. Matthews signing for 6 years might not be great for the Leafs, but it is for Matthews. I think Matthews will push for it, and I theorized that he might get it. Doesn't mean the leafs want to give it to him. Remember, theres two sides to the negotiation. I encourage you to look at it from Matthews perspective as well, not just the leafs. In this theory, I gave Matthews less money because shorter deals warrant less money because you buy up fewer UFA years, which are more expensive because the player if unsigned would be able to negotiate on the open market with no restrictions.
Again thanks for the compliments!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>2 problems, first you forgot about ozzy, secondly I’m not sure if Lilly will be ready. So yes we may need a cheap vet or possibly use Borgman in the bottom pair.</div></div>
I didn't forget Ozzy, but rather sent him back to Russia. His contract expired. His play this year has not been bad by any means. I think Dermott has really inflated his stats and I'm unsure of his individual value. Additionally with aitsev gone, he might feel disconnected to the team off the ice and in practices and stuff (Zaitsev is his translator and best friend I think). Hard to keep him if Zaitsev leaves when he only marginally better than potential replacements. Regarding Lilly, I don't know either. If he isn't Oz can be resigned and play 3RD. Or Borgman. Or anyone else.

All yours! I'd do Kappy and Brown for Nurse, you get two wingers (who are probably your two best wingers other than RNH and Draisaitl who probably shouldn't be wingers), we get our defensemen. Is that more to your liking?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aspina25</b></div><div>It really doesn't make sense for Edmonton. Toronto fans vastly overvalue Kapanen. He only had 9 points in half a season last year and then magically is on pace for 60 when he plays on the wing of a top 10 center, I wonder where there difference comes from.
You say he could get 60-70 points playing with McDavid, but so could anyone who can stand by the net and keep their stick on the ice.</div></div>
With the large exception of ANYONE who currently plays on the Oilers]
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I think the "speedy winger for McDavid" thing is way overblown. He is on pace for like 50 goals and 120 pts. They aren't looking to tap more out of him, they're looking to add players to make the team better when he's not on the ice. </div></div>
I absolutely think Kapanen could play very well with a half decent centre on the second line, or excellently with McDavid on the first line. This would allow Draisaitl/RNH to anchor their own lines if Kappy plays with Connor, which helps Oilers when Connor isn't on the ice. Also they aren't looking for players to compliment McDavid, but they are looking for competent players that McDavid can help. McDavid can't do much to help guys like Yamamoto.

Fair argument on Kapanen only playing well around others, but I do think he's developed to be good individually as well. Even if not, he's performed outstanding with great C's, and if he moves to EDM he will be playing with McDavid....

No way. Oilers have trampled his development and every other team can see it. You do pay potential in this league, especially in this situation. Also 500k doesn't really change the equation. oilers still stuck with a bad team and little cap room to fix it

I just did a mock where I trade the devils Zaitsev and surrender a 2nd rounder as sweetener. In the same one I trade Kapanen for Nurse. He's been asked to play a more defensive game, when his strong suit is more quarterbacking a PP and playing more offence. He hasn't been aggressive enough, probably cuz he's playing with Gardiner. Check it out, its called "The Most interesting trade for a D I have seen yet" or something to that effect. Didn't realize u were a Devils fan (your prof pic should've been a dead giveaway. Yeah we definitely need a righty! Nurse would actually be a fantastic target. Young, term, cheap (because of RFA status), he makes a ton of sense. This is a player I could imagine a Kapanen deal for. Becomes an RFA after the leafs get cap room (Marleau deal come off the books). The more I type, the more I like this. I could imagine Nurse for Kapanen 1 for 1, is that a deal EDM could be interested in? If it came to it, I'd be willing to give a pick or two (not a 1st) or B prospect (not Sandin or Liljegren), but Idt it would be necessary.

See I know you think guys like Puljiarvi won't get 7 figures. I think they would, whether they are worth it or not. Feel free to put Sekera on LTIR. You wind up with say 6 mil to play with to get a middle 6 winger. That isn't going to magically make you a contender. Your biggest contracts (except Connor) are your worst, have long term remaining, and most have NTC. Good luck
