Not sure how Kevin Allen came to this conclusion. Yzerman doesn't speak ill of any of his players and I find it hard to believe that he would say something like that to a reporter.

I don't think he'll really return to form and get much value back, and this is around the max he can get right now. The trade seems dumb but I don't think he wants to resign with the team so they should sell him off

I think Bourque is a decent prospect, maybe B level. The equivalent of perhaps two 2nd round picks, arguably.

Personally I think Kubalik is a terrible hockey player. I wouldn’t trade more than a 5th round pick for him, if at all but, I would put his trade value at around a 2nd & 4th round pick at the minimum on the market.

Good points. It’s interesting that NYI was able to add that protection to the pick. I only found out last night exactly what the protection was at “top 12”.

It's hard to find an exact equivalent but I think it falls in between the 2 comparisons above. With Kasper and Raty I think they are close but we will just have to see. Rasmussen has 7 points in his last 7 games and has really turned it on lately and it's not like last season where his points seemed like right place right time but now he's is making plays and creating offense. That OT winner against Montreal that was all Rasmussen and in Arizona that no look though the crease to Perron. The 1st rd picks are close right now but this will probably push the Islanders into the playoffs. Raty and the 1st don't factor in yet so it's like trading Beauvillier for Horvat. I think NYI got the best of this deal does it stay that way I guess we will just have to see.

All of that aside the actual return for Horvat wasn't anywhere near what the Vancouver fans ACGMs were expecting from Detroit. That last day they were on par with the Petry to Detroit offers by some Montreal fans. A 2023 1st (unprotected) and 2nd, Edvinsson and Cossa. I also think choosing to sign Miller to a big extension and trading Horvat is going to end up biting them in the ass.

When you give him an extension right after the trade, the value goes up. Since it means that they could discuss with the player before the trade. They’re also the fact that he’s the biggest center available at the trade deadline

It's not impossible, but given that that's a UFA advance negotiation situation none of the more significant names would be made available. But, hey, maybe that'd still be worth it for Detroit.

That said, I think Yzerman still gets it done in the end.

Especially when OEL is tying up one long-term already.

Other teams are going to want to ask about retention for Ghost or Ritchie, etc. And the return on Ghost retained alone is going to blow away Zboril, a dump, and a late pick.

They aren't passing on good returns elsewhere for a fifth or even a fourth as I often see. The opportunity cost isn't worth it.

I agree if you want a player like Larkin you are going to have to give up something you don't want to loose and not just a couple of prospects and a couple of picks.
