How I would lineup the Blackhawks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeff_Fingers_Agnet04</b></div><div>Do you kind Dach actually starts the year with the big club? Don't think it hurts having Cagguila playing 3C and therefore makes room for Nylander and lets Dach ripen up his skills in junior for one more year</div></div>
It's a tough question. Depends on the Traverse City prospect tourney, training camp, and the 9 game NHL tryout. I don't mind if Dach gets sent back to Saskatoon. I do think the Hawks have created an environment where it won't be a rushed situation. His development would be protected by the players and roles assigned/given to him. Drake's taken less than 100 face offs in the last 2 seasons combined, so while he's an options...the Hawks don't really have a solid #3C choice. If Dach gets sent down I'd say Kampf or Carpenter does it, but similar to this post they're more a #4C.

Timmins & a first for Carlo & Coyle? I'd probably consider that if I were in Sakic's shoes.

LTIR contracts still count against the overall cap. LTIR contracts will increase a teams ACSL(accruable cap space limit) not that Ottawa will then use it. Also insurance will pay for part of those contracts on LTIR

I think those are all solid points. I can't see him leaving for Arizona either. I could see him leaving for a big market American team though. Chicago, NYR, LA, or even, and I shudder to write this... Boston. Could you imagine??

Marner hold out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeff_Fingers_Agnet04</b></div><div>still don't understand why marner is the catalyst for this RFA class. you can easily make the argument that Point and Raantanen are both better players and will likely be compensated less</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>I thought the 10m x 8 was a very fair deal. Would be willing to say that even 10.5m would still be okay. Don’t think I would like any contract over that.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>So the real question is: if Marner holds out, does any other RFA do the same?
So much talk around Marner but what if one of these other guys decide to hold out?
I don't believe for a second Marner or any RFA will get the deal they want if it gets to the point of holding out.</div></div>
It's as simple as this, Stamkos; a franchise player was UFA, signs for 8.5 AVV, a couple seasons later, Dubas sets a new benchmark with John T. , 11 AAV.
Hyman and Brown; both middle line forwards who had 40 point season potential, sign for 2-2.5 AVV range, a couple seasons ago, Dubas sets another new benchmark by giving Johnsson and Kapanen 3-3.5 AAV.
Eichel; franchise center signs for 10 AAV a couple seasons ago, Dubas has again set a new benchmark by signing Matthews to 11.6 AAV.
Larkin and Ehlors, both 60 point players sign for a little more than 6 AAV a couple seasons ago, Dubas sets a new benchmark for 60 point player by giving Nylander 7 AAV.
So the whole NHL (mostly the player agents) are waiting for Dubas to continue the overpayment trend by setting a new benchmark for a point per game players, with the Marner deal.

Yup. And people should stop thinking that Dubas is some teenager who is always quiet. I think he can get angry and do savage moves to make team good. And he would if he feels that Babs is not right and would not hesitate to give his guy a chance.

I mostly wanted to see for the Spezza comment. I can see Spezza on the 3rd in the event of an injury and it’ll happen for sure. I agree that the intention is for him to be a 4C, but in a bind I think he would do better than Gauthier as a 3C.

Keefe got 2yr contract extension this summer. I think he is the highest paid AHL coach as well. I think we will see a coaching change next year IF Babs doesnt make needed changes.

Washington Capitals signed Jakub Vrána (2 Years / $3,350,000 AAV)
After seeing guys like Silfverberg get signed to contracts worth over $5M annually, I didn’t think it’d be possible to get him locked up on a deal like this. We have Kyle Dubas to thank for that, in getting Kapanen, Johnsson and Kerfoot all locked up to similar numbers.
Great contract for the team, and hopefully he earns a bigger payday in two years.

The marner contract
Although on this site the Marner signing (or non signing) is getting a lot play because of the number of Leaf fans and haters.......look at all. the other RFAs yet to sign Point, Rantanen, Laine, Connor, McAvoy, Boesner Carlo and more...plus good UFAs Gardiner, Ferland, I'm sure I've forgotten some.
There just isn't enough cap out to sign these players to massive contract ACGMs think or even the players think they deserve.
But when I do mock lineups of New Jersey and Isles....two teams with cap for an overpaid RFA, their cap doesn't doesn't work nearly as well in 2020/21 if they hope to sign their keep their valuable pieces on the team.
I don't blame any player for not signing for a contract he doesn't like...All these RFAs and UFAs can sign with thousands of teams in hundreds of leagues, in a dozen countries. But the teams have the same right,. not signing players to contracts they don't like. Maybe the Leafs learned from the Nylander and Matthews contracts fiasco (my opinion)......hey we have as much power or more than the player.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Cody Ceci (1 Year / $4,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeff_Fingers_Agnet04</b></div><div>I am surprised the leafs didn’t go with the heavy bonus in this situation. If he doesn’t fit into the system it makes it a lot easier to move him, and add a very comparable if not better defender at the trade deadline for a much cheaper cap hit</div></div>
Yeah, it seems really weird, especially considering they give out signing bonus like candy on all deals anyway, so it looks like they went out of their way to not do this as a signing bonus deal. Maybe there is some financial ceiling that ownership said they weren't prepared to spend on a guy like Ceci? Either way, it seems strange that when you look at Kapanen, Johnsson and Kerfoot's deals, they look like they were using signing bonus to keep AAV down and to make them easy to move toward the end of their deals if they needed to, even though those are cap hits that look like Bargains that you would want to keep, but Ceci who seems like a good candidate to get shipped out later in the year if he isn't a fit is getting all salary?
Seems weird.
