<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeff_Fingers_Agnet04</b></div><div>still don't understand why marner is the catalyst for this RFA class. you can easily make the argument that Point and Raantanen are both better players and will likely be compensated less</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>I thought the 10m x 8 was a very fair deal. Would be willing to say that even 10.5m would still be okay. Don’t think I would like any contract over that.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>So the real question is: if Marner holds out, does any other RFA do the same?
So much talk around Marner but what if one of these other guys decide to hold out?
I don't believe for a second Marner or any RFA will get the deal they want if it gets to the point of holding out.</div></div>

It's as simple as this, Stamkos; a franchise player was UFA, signs for 8.5 AVV, a couple seasons later, Dubas sets a new benchmark with John T. , 11 AAV.

Hyman and Brown; both middle line forwards who had 40 point season potential, sign for 2-2.5 AVV range, a couple seasons ago, Dubas sets another new benchmark by giving Johnsson and Kapanen 3-3.5 AAV.

Eichel; franchise center signs for 10 AAV a couple seasons ago, Dubas has again set a new benchmark by signing Matthews to 11.6 AAV.

Larkin and Ehlors, both 60 point players sign for a little more than 6 AAV a couple seasons ago, Dubas sets a new benchmark for 60 point player by giving Nylander 7 AAV.

So the whole NHL (mostly the player agents) are waiting for Dubas to continue the overpayment trend by setting a new benchmark for a point per game players, with the Marner deal.
