Pop-Ups on Site
While going from page to page on the site, I infrequently get a pop-up box that says
"Support Free Content"
"We use ads to keep our content free for you. Please allow ads and let sponsors fund your surfing". The pop-up blocks everything on the site.
It's gotten very annoying (once every second or third page today), and I don't even have an adblocker on.
Is this pop-up intentional?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Interesting comment! Kudos on that. This isnt a 35+ contract though. Curious if CAR had just waited for this until closer to the season if that would have changed things.</div></div>
1) It being a standard contract is better for the team than it being a 35+ contract
2) Even if he signed it after his 35th birthday (September 10), the contract would still be standard. Age counts based on June 30 before the free agent period.

4 YEARSSS?? AAV is sorta niceish if under 3</div></div>
This means it's not a 35+ contract which makes it so that if he retires in the middle of the contract, Carolina isn't on the hook for the rest of the cap hit. I think this is a better way to handle this situation than doing this every offseason with one-year deals.

Because of its use as a de-escalation tactic, 10 minute misconducts don't by themselves lead to automatic suspensions. It's only match penalties/game misconducts

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_Habs_fan</b></div><div>I think Seb Aho did kind of the same thing when Tkachuk scored the game winner in game 4, Tkachuk was driving to the net and Aho went towards the goal post instead of Tkachuk for some reason, I spent a good while trying to figure out what Aho was doing</div></div>
My best guess for Aho at the end of G4 is that he knew Reinhart was backdoor, and hard committing to Tkachuk would have allowed an easy backdoor pass to Reinhart. Aho, assuming that Freddie had full ability to push to the side, moved towards the back post to prevent Tkachuk from getting all the way across, but also made sure he stayed in the way of any cross-crease attempts, and kinda got himself caught in no-mans land. Hindsight proves that to be a wrong decision, but I can at least see what Aho was going for.
Suter's looks really weird because it's off a rush, and 2v1 defenders usually don't just abandon the middle of the ice in such a scenario.

I don't know about "easily match". They currently can't afford to match this, plus pay Laf anything reasonable, plus get to an 18 man roster. Serious moves will have to be made to accommodate this offer. <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4231309">I made an AGM</a> detailing so.

Issue is, Montréal can afford to match that pretty easily. The Rangers are going to have a really, really hard time with this, especially if the Canadiens (or anyone else) go after Laf at the same time

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>I wonder whats Carolina's plan now
Injuries reared their ugly head and took out some key guys
That said I do feel they were to conservative at the TDL. Should have got a big more aggressive.</div></div>
No, they were right to hold tight with everyone else going all-in. This core's window has only one more season, so I think they play next year more aggressive. Also, they pretty much have to wait until the deadline to get Andrei Svechnikov back from his torn ACL.
The big thing this offseason is the goaltending situation. Andersen and Raanta are both 34 at the start of next season and neither have contracts with Carolina, and Kochetkov, despite his maturity issues, is too good to keep in the AHL next season.
They nominally have a lot of cap to play with this offseason, but I expect mostly one-year veteran contracts, as they figure out who their true core is going into the 2024-25 season.
The most important part of their future plan should be to promote Tulsky to a position that other teams don't try to poach, possibly kicking Waddell to POHO to promote him to GM.

2022-23 NHL Playoff Discussion Thread #2: Ryan Suter is the biggest bird
The Hurricanes all series were missing a game-changing power forward, one that is able to stand up to the semi-legal and illegal physicality of the playoffs, has a scoring touch, speed, skill, and a great shot. A big scoring specialist who could pick corners against Bobrovsky and help the powerplay would also have been nice, and I want to believe that Slavin defends the third Florida goal better than Ghost.
Even with all of that, they lost four incredibly close and exhilarating games that were decided by luck (including officiating, which I mostly consider luck) and Bobrovsky having possibly the best playoff series of a goaltender since... a long time ago.
It hurts right now, but this is further than I expected this Canes team to make it this year, and they didn't throw away a pile of futures chasing the 2023 Cup like the Rangers, Bruins, and Leafs did. They'll be back next year, and they might have to go all-in because of their contract situations.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rangsey</b></div><div>If you're relying on getting a call in the final minutes to tie a game you haven't played well enough to win imo.</div></div>
By that logic, if you rely on a call in the second period to win a game as the Panthers did tonight, you haven't played well enough to win, either, but sometimes that's just what happens. The officials are part of the game, and sometimes they help you win, and sometimes they don't, as whatever happens, the team has to deal with it.
I'm not confident enough in their 6v4 to say that they would have extended the game, but I still think that the officiating worked in Florida's favour tonight. It's not malice, it's not rigged, it's just unlucky

Not sure if I should be comforted by Carolina controlling play and getting most of the scoring chances, which may give them a better chance in the rest of the series, or saddened by the fact that they've had the majority of the scoring chances and puck possession and still lost both games, and Florida's skaters are likely to play better later this series

That may have been one of the most unfortunate happenings I've personally seen in a hockey game... Slavin going for the puck, gets his stick lodged in the hole in Burns' skate blade, tripping Burns and leaving Slavin without a stick so they were essentially three men down.
Still doesn't top Dobson's stick breaking in the 2019 WJC quarters but it's close
