Last Names Starting With M Might Beat the Rest of the NHL

Okay. So. I'm serious here. And I'm not trying to get into an argument. Just some friendly advice. :). This site is not just for "realistic" rosters. People like to joke around and be creative. The fact that he took all this time to put this together tells me he is just playing around. There's no need to "tell" someone to do something a certain way. Now you could just be joking around as well and if so, my bad. I've enjoyed brainstorming with you on other posts, despite our massive gap in "Capitals Solutions". I just see so much trolling and non-constructive comments on here. Figured I nicely say this to you, because I think you are better than that. 👍🙂😁

50 mil team
This team DEFINITELY makes the playoffs, maybe a 6th seed, maybe an 8th. When they get to the playoffs, they would be a extremely difficult team to out hustle. Could surprise a couple teams and play the spoiler role. Top 3 would be nasty, 2nd line would be extremely exciting to watch, most of the bottom six are hard nosed guys, defensive is above average and goaltending might surprise some people.
I took a quick look at P/60 amongst the forwards and found that most of the Top 9 are around a goal and an assist per 60 minutes. So there is a lot of potential for 30/30 guys sprinkled in. Possession metrics and GV/TK were decent and a lot of these guys are gonna get a hit per game. Not a bad mix of statistics.
If Noah Cates learns how to win face-offs and gets the ice time, you might just have two of the top 30 Centers in the league(Just a hunch).
I'd expect Robertson and Thompson to have 100+ points each, possibly 120-130+.
Nice build @dickey-boon, I think it's a GREAT team, with plenty of cap space to resign just about everyone and possibly add some pieces. KUDOS!!!

More moves
I think you are quite a ways off on that Kuzy trade. Straight up would be Kuzy for 2 Seconds minimum. With retention it would be quite a bit more. Considering you put Kuzy as your 1C, I'm sure you understand that a 4th round pick isn't going to get you a top line center. :)

wading back into the nylander discussions
I wish Kuzy would move to the wing in DC. But alas, I think he is too prideful to do that willingly. A line of Kuzy-Backstrom-Wilson/Oshie could be a lot of fun to watch. Or even Ovi-Backstrom-Kuzy. IDK, if he was willing to scoot over, I think it already would have happened.

Nylander

Quoting: qc14

Caps and Leafs fans on this site (and really every fan tbh) can't ever parse out the very different realities of what a player is actually "worth," how a generic NHL GM values certain roles, and what specific teams will do versus what they should do.
Objectively by any WAR-type stat Nylander is "worth" a whole lot, probably the amount of futures being offered here if not more. I don't really think any fan of any team would dispute that. The problem for the Leafs is that correctly or not, NHL GMs do not value scoring wingers in the last year of their deals that are about to get paid big money quite as highly. This is incredibly obvious from recent trades -- Fiala, DeBrincat (twice), Meier, Bertuzzi, Stone, even some centers like PLD and Eichel. The only player traded recently to get the type of return they are actually close to being "worth" is Tkachuk, an MVP caliber player on a different playing field than all the ones I just listed. NHL GM's probably are also very put off by what has been reported so far as Nylander's (justifiably) massive contract demands.
Finally, there are the team-specific things. Leafs fans need to understand that no matter what he "should" do, BMac has made it abundantly clear through media channels that he is not trading Wilson even for an upgrade in the form of Nylander. Obviously I do not follow Toronto media or rumors as closely, but I assume that the Leafs would like to get back some form of top NHL talent back in a Nylander deal and Caps fans need to understand that as well.
For all of these reasons, I don't really see any trade scenario that makes sense for both teams around Nylander (or Wilson for that matter), especially this one that doesn't really solve anyone's problems.

Very well put. I really don't think a Leafs/Caps Nylander trade is going to happen either, especially without Wilson going to Toronto. But it is fun to speculate. I do think it will cost quite a bit for Nylander. Out of all the players you mentioned, Nylander would be 3rd or 4th best(Behind Tkachuk, Eichel and possibly Stone), so I think Toronto will get a decent haul if they do trade him.
I don't think Nylander @$10mil is that absurd. Would be hard to swallow at the current cap limit, but if the cap goes up $3-$4 mil next year, it won't seem nearly as hefty.
Thanks again for your comment, good to see some sound reasoning and clear communication:)

Says who? You ever talk to an actual NHL GM? I haven't, so who knows the intricate details that get put out there on the trade market. 😉
And yes, Nylander IS worth CMM and 2 1sts. CMM AT best is gonna be a 2B option on the wing, more like a 3rd or 4th liner at best, he will NEVER be a good C in the NHL. I'd also argue that he is a B-minus prospect at best, more like a C prospect. It amazes me how much Caps fans like him.
Nylander is in his prime, Just scored a point per game for two seasons and is only going to get better. Lol. Some of ya'll :). Thanks for the discussion tho.

I would argue that 1/2 a 2nd would be around the worth of a 4th, maybe a 3rd depending on the pick #. To me LuJo is worthless, Caps should have given up on him a long time ago.
Agreed on Timmins health, but if he can stay healthy, he would be a decent 6th/7th Dman with Potential (key word) middle pairing ability.

If he does play out his full contract, don’t re-sign Roslovic and move TVR and I think he still fits.

Agreed on health being such a question mark. As our core has aged, it's been one injury after another. I wonder how much of it is due to our training staff, especially the strength and conditioning coaches?

I don't see Backstrom retiring until his contact is up and maybe even signs another 1 or 2 year deal. If you dig into his numbers, he still is pretty good defensively and I think he will be much better in the O-zone now that he has had time to recover a bit more. I'm shocked how few Caps fans have faith in Nicky(it's kinda sad TBH). Not guaranteeing anything, but I'm predicting 20-25G and 45-50A for him this year(assuming he stays healthy). :)

I agree, kinda. I definitely don't think the Caps would do this, BUT they would have to give up a haul if they did. Disagree with the "wait until free agency" stuff. Nylander could already be traded and signed long term at that point and if not, there's 30 other teams that will have varying degrees of interest. IF Nylander is on the Caps radar, they need to pull the trigger b4 this season starts.

Well...first of all GMBM needs to be fired. He inherited an amazing team from McPhee and got lucky to win a cup. Since then, he has done NOTHING to help this team. I understand that there are many complications to roster building and some "moves" are unavoidable, but let's review a few transactions since the cup....
1. Stephenson - Gone
2. Vrana/Mantha - I literally cried
3. Not trading Kuzy while he still had value
4. Not ONE big name signing
5. Trading Orlov - I get it, but YUCK
These are just a few examples of the top of my head. There are plenty more.
Caps need to start by getting rid of GMBM. After that, who knows? Let Ovi ride off into the sunset about 2-3 Cups short of what he should have had and hope to get another generational talent in the lottery
