"Dead salary"....... Perhaps you should learn Hossa's contract before you go bashing it..
Hossa Is basically a "4.275 million dollar cap coupon" - he basically allows a team to circumvent the cap floor (or the salary cap in general) by $4.275 million in real money and that has value..
The Hawks have no reason to trade him, they can go 10% over the cap (or in this case) 5.275M for LTIR replacement(s)...... So taking Hossa is doing the Hawks no favors...
Oh right, but of course, why in the hell would Arizona want to save 4.275 million in real money a season for 3 seasons? Not to mention Forsling will be a top 4 defenseman over the next couple of seasons, and second round picks are nice....
Oh yea, and Hjalmarsson's contract is expiring at the end of the season.

That's why the Hawks won't trade him.
Seabrook is still a solid #4, a player the Hawks need - they couldn't afford to move him.

Those are decent players, just because you're not familiar with them doesn't make them trash.
Either way, I wasn't expecting Panarin to re-sign in Columbus... My theory all along was that Bowman was going to re-sign with the Hawks in the summer of 2019 and Panarin making it known that he's not going to sign an extension was his way of telling Bowman "Dont sign anyone long term, I'm coming back to Chicago one way or another, be it this season or next summer"....

Panarin
I've suspected all along it was Bowmans plan to re-sign Panarin in the summer of 2019..... I bet Bowman told Panarin, "look - we're bringing you back as a UFA on a long-term deal, just give me a couple of years to make cap space to make you a career Blackhawk"....
Now maybe Panarin will be back this summer which would be great....
I would hate to give up the 8th overall pick but Panarin is one of few players I would trade the pick for......... 8th overall & Hossa for Panarin...... I would try Anisimov, 27th overall, Forsling & 2019 second round pick for Panarin .... I would try that first....

I'd rather stick with 8th overall and take Wahlstrom then take a defenseman with #27 and keep on drafting defenseman in the first round for the next couple of years.
Apparently the Hawks are trying to get the UFA rights to JVR (according to Eklund so you can take that with a grain of salt) for a conditional pick..... I also heard via multiple sources Panarin has no interest in signing a contract extension with the Blue Jackets so he is a possibility as well.... I always figured Bowman's plan was to resign Panarin in the summer of 2019 but maybe the Hawks may get him back this summer..... It would be hilarious if Bowman traded Anisimov & 27th + overall for Panarin tho to keep the most bizarre "trade chain" in NHL history alive...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>phillyjabroni</b></div><div>I don't think the value is close. For Montreal to move down from 3rd overall to 8th overall, it's probably going to cost around Nick Schmaltz to get the deal done - not Anisimov (who is a second line center) and Dunclair (not going to reach his max potential; is a third line winger).
I think you can make the case that Joe Veleno is the most talented center in the draft - same goes with Rasmus Kupari and Isaac Lundestrom.</div></div>
No way the Hawks trade Schmaltz - EVER (at least not this decade)..... Kid just put up 57 points (I believe).. He has lots of potential and is the Hawks future #2 center... He will be a 70 point player for sure.
I don't care about this trade idea anymore...
Hawks are find drafting at #8 - at 8th overall they can take Wahlstrom and be set at forward for at least another decade with Schmaltz, DeBricat, Wahlstrom, Saad and Kane..

Cap Dump Trades
I don't see the Hawks trading Seabrook unless they're getting something of value, and the Hawks don't have to trade Hossa because they can spend his 5.275 cap hit this summer because Bowman (or any GM with a LTIR contract) can go 10% over the cap... Of course Bowoman would probably trade Hossa if a team wanted him for salary cap reasons..
So I could see Hossa getting moved but not with any assets, maybe the Hawks get a pick or something in return or a player that makes around 1M per in salary (Hossa's salary).
Hossa, Forsling & 2019 second round pick for Hjalmarsson.

LOL, Hoffman just wasn't traded, he was traded twice.... How about dat?
You can now add Panarin to the list - I read via multiple sources he has no interest in re-signing in Columbus.... I predicted all along he would end up back with the Hawks as a UFA in 2020 but now maybe via trade..... Send Anisimov back to Columbus with pick #27 and a prospects, which would be keeping alive one of the most bizarre "trade chains" in NHL history..

Panarin for Saad
Anisimov + for Panarin

I don't get the Saad & Anisimov for Patches + picks deal at all..
I wouldn't trade Saad at all unless it landed the Hawks a top 13 pick...... And I think Bowman could land a late first round pick or (2) second round picks for Anisimov...
The other trades are good I suppose....... Carolina has no interest in more defenseman tho..... But I think 27th overall, Anisimov & Hossa get that deal done..
I like Faulk but the ask for him is just too much..
I would really like to see Stan acquire more draft picks TBH because this draft is that deep.... If the Hawks could land another first round pick and a couple of second round picks they would be set for the future...

If this isn't a contender than what is?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>phillyjabroni</b></div><div>I'm not suggesting taking Kotkaniemi at 3rd overall - just because there is speculation that they are taking him, doesn't mean that they are. Any pick after 1-2 is up for debate as to where the chips all fall.
I don't think they make the deal out of the sake of making the deal. If they want to draft him, they <em>should</em> move down. That could be to 8, as you suggested. If they are going to do that, they need to have a return that is more valuable to them than the security of taking Kotkaniemi at 3rd overall. Just parlaying a middle-six center and a winger that doesn't have a ton of upside won't get you to move up. It would need to include something of value (other draft assets, for example).</div></div>
I find it interesting that Montreal needs natural centers then questions fair trades that get them what they need.... In this scenario they walk away with the best center in the draft that has sure-fire #1C potential and a decent #2C or "elite" #3C and a very fast winger with good hands and decent potential to move back 5 spots in the draft...
That Montreal trade is more than fair......... TBH, in hindsight I don't know why the Hawks do it because I think Wahlstrom is in the same league as Svechnikov and Zadina.... And I would be thrilled if the Hawks landed Wahlstrom, he would fit right into the Hawks top 6, and I think he has superstar potential... He's similar to Ovechkin, so how do you pass on that?
Anisimov on his own is worth a late first round pick or perhaps (2) second round picks..
I have no idea what Duclair is worth..... Seems like he has the skills and talent to be a top 6 winger but the kid cant finish.... If I was offered a 2nd for his rights, I would take that all day..
Besides, these hypothetical trades area what I would want if GM's contacted me about said players...... I mean it's not like these teams are getting ripped off. Some fans may not like the trades but value wise it's close.....
Wonder what people would say had I posted a Domi straight up for Galchenyuk.... I'm sure many would say: "that doesn't make sense, why would the Habs do that for a bust of a prospect".

Slow rebuild part one.
The Blackhawks aren't even close to rebuilding....... They have too much talent and everyone is acting like the world is ending for the Hawks because Toews and Kane are 30 and Keith is 35.... So what, yea they're getting older but the Hawks a year removed from leading the Western Conference...
A "rebuild" is out of the question..... What the Hawks need to do is start drafting their "new core"..... They already have Schmaltz, DeBrincat and Jokiharju... They will get a sure-fire stud at 8th overall (hopefully Dobson or Wahlstrom, probably the latter) and will get a very good player at #27 due to the depth of this draft, so those are 2 more assets that can be part of the Hawks "new core"..... That way in 5 years Toews can be bumped to the 2nd or 3rd line, Keith can play a #3-4 role and Kane - he will probably still be a top 6 winger....
But a rebuild...... Not even close.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>phillyjabroni</b></div><div>Trade doesn't make sense for Carolina to make. They have small incentive to undersell their defensemen and that 2nd overall pick, just to dump Darling and pick up Saad.
I also don't see Montreal picking up Anisimov and Dunclair, two guys who won't have a long term impact on their team, to move down in the draft. Again, there is no incentive for them to move down.</div></div>
So Montreal is going to take Kotkaniemi, 3rd overall? because that's who they're going to take and there is a good chance he will be available at 8..... If He's going later in the top 10 and you know this, may as well move down and get assets out of it.....

Draft Day. Hawks trade #8
Then Bowman is immediately fired after he trades #8 for Trouba.....
At #8 the Hawks could draft a defenseman that's superior to Trouba - if they go the D route at the draft...... If Tkachuk or Wahlstrom are available at #8 you take one of them unless Dobson is still on the board...
Bowman should be looking into acquiring MORE picks, not trading them ..... This draft is excellent...... Use, Anisimov, Duclair, Forsling and futures or prospects to acquire a few more picks.... The Islanders have (2) back-to-back first round picks 11 & 12..... They may trade one.... Heck, Bowman has good trading relationships with Montreal & Carolina maybe the Hawks could move up from 8 or 27 with the right package.... Heck, I would give up Anisimov, #27 and 2019 first & second round picks to move into the top 7 - maybe Vancouver's pick..
This draft is just too deep not to take advantage of it.......
The top 5 picks in this draft would all be first overall picks in an "average" draft, the top 20 would be top 10 as well...... Bowman needs to take advantage of that, because this draft could set the Hawks up for a very long time..... I'd be open to trading anyone in the right deal except DeBrincat, Schmaltz, Toews & Kane..

If this isn't a contender than what is?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div>extremely skilled? that is extremely hyperbolic. he's good. he's a middle 6 player. that means he's not ideal as 2C, but capable enough. any way, he's too expensive for what he provides - and you're trading him to free up cap space for other assets. that alone decreases his trade value dramatically. Teams have learned not to help other teams out with their cap unless it's really advantageous for them, which this is not. Duclair doesn't have a lot of value, so as a throwin to reunite him with Domi.. sure. but not as a substantial piece in that deal.</div></div>
For a big man he is extremely skilled..... I wont say "dynamic" but he has playmaking talent, has soft hands and his good in front of the net....
I just don't think Anisimov fits the Hawks style of play...
Anisimov did play #2C the last couple of seasons with the Hawks..... So he can play #2C, but ideally he's an "elite" #3C (elite for a 3rd line center, meaning if he's playing #3C he would be among the most skilled #3C in the league)....
It's a weird situation where the Hawks have a talented player, especially for a big dude but he just doesn't fit...... The fact he doesn't fit isn't a knock on him at all.... Kempny didn't fit and look at what he did with Washington...
The Hawks would be better off trading Anisimov (and Bowman will) and going with Nick Schmaltz at 2C...
My issue with most Anisimov discussions is the fact the dude gets massively underrated, and at times is treated like a "cap dump"..... The guy is worth every bit of his contract... He's a .50ppg player(which is pretty good for a big guy), and I think he would score more under the right system...

Seriously, Nalimov's SPCT was 3rd in the KHL. That's pretty good. His GAA was 14th. Less amazing, but okay. <a href="https://en.khl.ru/stat/leaders/468/gaa/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://en.khl.ru/stat/leaders/468/gaa/</a>
