If JT was not on the team next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Unfortunately not going to happen.
But you realize you have no offense on the blueline besides Reilly though right?
Benoit and Edmundsen probably dont reach 10 pts, Pesce and McCabe are generally only around 20 pts and Roy is about 30 at most.
And I know the usual argument is that we have more then "enough offense at forward", maybe not with that lineup (3 rookies/young guys) and a 4th line of muckers.</div></div>
He's doing a bit

Addressing weaknesses
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Very true, but injuries to Quinn and meshing hasnt worked too well.
Forgot about Krebs so went with Krebs instead of Blueger, although one of Dakota/Blueger is still a need.
Cates had a bad injury and hasnt scored much this year, but really its about the type of player.
Looking at the above, theres at least 3 LW, 3 RW, 3C who can put up pts and guys who can move up and down lineup as needed, with guys like Cates/Greenway/Dakota providing some physicality and 2 way play and mentor the newest young guys.
Pesce (while maybe underpaid, theres plenty of cap left), Clifton and MacDermis (8th dman) are there to clear crease and allow Byram/Power and Dahlin to rush the puck, with Johnson as a high quality 7th.</div></div>
Guys are developing 2 way games. Quinn, Krebs, Benson, cozens have all been fixtures on the PK.
I go back and forth between big changes and stay the course. Right now I am largely stay the course (Byram trade has a big role in that). We do need to add a center and upgrade the 4th line

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Point taken, but I think they really need an above average veteran that is a stay at home/crease clearer. Maybe Jokiharju becomes that, but IMO hes more of a tweener type (not quite a puck rusher/not a crease clearer).</div></div>
But Pesce really isn't that either, atleast the Physical part.

I actually might want to keep Joker, Pesce and Jokers numbers aren't that far off from each other and Joker seems to be getting better. Him and Power have been solid together. And I doubt Pesce signs for that in Buffalo. Like the Blueger and Joshua signings

We have a positive goal differential and have greatly improved our PK and overall goals against.
We simply have not scored goals, particularly on the power play.

Pesce probably gets around $7 or $8 million, and after the season he’s had Luukkonen is definitely getting a lot more money than that. You also never bothered to resign Krebs, or even trade him.

I sort of agree on the value standpoint but also think you may be judging him a bit harshly too. Its not every day that a team has like 4-5 under 23 yo NHL ready dmen all competing for the last couple spots on a team. He's showed he's more than capable at the NHL but ppl have to be reminded that he is also still young too. He's susceptible to brain farts but most 22 yo dmen are. I think we judge him harsher simply based on the fact we have a plethora of other options. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be an everyday dman on another team with less depth. Habs have an abnormal amount of young depth at this level that they can afford to not be as patient.</div></div>
Fully agree i think he could still develop into a decent dman, but I think philly could pry him from mtl for a little cheaper, then they wouldve been able to last year..But 100% he is a victim of the deep prospect pool the habs have on d.

Where would the Pens be if Hextall didnt mess up 21-22 offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>The final years are already looking sad. Two straight years out of playoffs, no youth in system, acquiring every has been/never weres to fill in organizational holes, etc....
The pieces that they have that have value are the pieces they will not move: Croxby, Malkin, letang, etc....because they view their history tied to them (similar to the NYI teams of the 1980s), and the team will limp along outside of the draft lottery AND outside the playoffs.</div></div>
Thats Valid
Even if they just sold Crosby re-signing him in 2 years
They'd get a couple decent Prospects and a couple decent picks if not a better deal for taking back a Player
Lots of Good players out there with high caps and no real trade partners
Crosby's cap exchange makes a lot of them players in the Crosby market.
For Example a deal where LAK pays PIT to take Dubois or even a 3 way deal with CGY where you get paid to take on Huberdeau.
Scrub nobodies succeed by Malkin and infront of Karlsson and Letang so Huberdeau should have no issues (Plus some players suck in the West it is tougher. He thrived in the East though)
PIT could contend but not by keeping the status quo and gambling as Dubas has a history of doing that and coming up short
He overpaid once and made the 2nd round of the playoffs for his team for the 1st time in 20 years so i hope he learned from that experience.
But find more Bunting like trade deals and get value for that Cap space as it gets filled.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>So if 9 of their 18 skaters were different, they'd be good?
Imagine if the fans just said "fine, trade everybody and lets rebuild"</div></div>
More like because 9/18 skaters are different they're not
All the changes but no rebuild just means a revolving door of bad decisions trying to stay relevant.
Need Proof? Look at TML as an example . Until they rebuilt truly there was no success as there was no Matthews,Marner,Reilly,Nylander, ext
TML sold off everyone from those rosters basically and ran out the contracts they couldnt move and after like 2 decade they made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
With the pieces they got they could do the same this year as well maybe even hit a ECF but its TML so i doubt it and they'll likely choke lol
Point is PIT isnt rebuilding its just wasting time, valuable time of many future HOFers
You got Great D you likely couldnt move for any value worth it in Karlsson/Letang
If PIT was smart they'd Trade Malkin and Crosby for a stock pile so by their 39th-40th birthdays as their Contracts expire they can come back to PIT for 1 final run.
Karlsson and Letang would have 2-3 years to whip the new guys into shape and make them contenders.
I know MTL would give up a decent return for Crosby but im sure others would too
Malkin at his cap even at his age would draw a lot of interest and likely a higher return cause of the low cap with term.
PIT could re-stock their top 6 completely if they do it right and draft well in that timeline.
Otherwise the final years of 4 All Star HOF NHLers is going to be a sad decline

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Dont know about the defense, this season Treliving said there wasn;t enough offense on the blueline, and picked up Klingberg.
Lyubushkin, Benoit, Edmundson are all long shots for even 10pts each over an entire season. And McCabe/Tanev are really 15-20 pt guys.
Other than Reilly most of those guys cant even carry the puck.
And if the Leafs dont do well in the playoffs in 23-24, why would you bring back pretty much the same forward corps? (Reaves, Kampf, and Jarnkrot probably dont get better with age, and Woll/Fleury is just asking for injuries)</div></div>
I do agree with the lack of offence from the D group. Could always run with Timmins instead of Bush as well. Or sign Tyson Barrie to a low cap hit deal instead of Bush?
Rielly-Roy
McCabe-Tanev
Benoit-Barrie
Edmunson-Timmins
Barrie being a #6 would be fine. Especially paired with a guy like Benoit.

Jokiharju and a 2nd? Krebs and a 3rd, Ostlund and a 3rd, kind of thing....
At some point BUF has to find a spot for Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich at center though</div></div>
But why when we can sign 37 year old pat kane and 35 year old Adam henrique?
Kulich will play 5 ahl seasons apparently

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Kind of my thought.
Seguin is the better player, but a 9mil cap hit for 3 yrs as opposed to 5.8mil for 1 yr? Thats the trade off for DAL. ANd PHI lacks centers throughout organization, he fills a gap for 2-3 yrs and a 3rd line of Frost-Brink-Cates is worth it</div></div>
The only hiccup is Seguin has a full NMC. Even if all parties involved like the idea, I don't think Seguin waives to go to Philly considering Dallas is the stronger contender right now. Creative and fun, but unlikely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>It was already reported by many that the Blues want to get rid of one of Faulk, Parayko, or Scandella. If you are trying to dump a big contract, you dont get those prospects</div></div>
The Blues would like to trade Krug or Faulk. The only pigeon to report Parayko is Pagnota who makes stuff up for clicks. You Leaf fans did this same thing last year just expecting the Blues to give you Parayko as if you are doing them some sort of favor. The Blues have never retained on a player beyond the current season so this is beyond unrealistic.

Kenny Money
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>You'd have to think the asking price for Laughton with 3 yrs of retention is a 1st and 3rd easy.
But that leaves a lot of junk for Seeler:
Savoie is a former 4th round pick not scoring in 2 yrs in AHL has minimal value
Nieminielin is a 25 yr old going nowhere in 2 yrs in AHL
Fogele is an expiring cap dump
Thats just a few bodies PHI doesn;t want.</div></div>
I'm not disagreeing with the overall thrust of your comment, but the part where you call Foegele a cap dump is simply unreasonable. He's not some useless 4th liner that's paid 2x his worth. If I had to guess, you mean that he's a necessary cap casualty (different from a cap dump) for EDM to complete the trade but that doesn't mean he's valueless or a negative value. At absolute worst, he's an asset you can flip for a 3rd, perhaps even a 2nd given his performance this year.
